..... were excepting card payments only this aftenoon? And would I have been unreasonable to go to Home Bargains instead?

I fear the current situation is making me unrationally grumpy. Well, it's either that or the bloody menopause Blush

You mean they didn't want to handle cash? I thought that was part of the 'new normal' now.

TheRoyallingStones · 26/04/2020 17:32

Lots of places are going cashless at the moment, to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

SuperCraft · 26/04/2020 17:33

Most places are asking for card payments only now aren't they? Did they not have signs before you went in to say they weren't accepting cash? I can see how annoying it would be to get to the checkout and only be told then.

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/04/2020 17:33

YABU.. if you were shop staff would you be happy to handle cash right now?

I think a cashless society will become the new normal from now on to be honest.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 17:34

I guess that's what they meant but who knows? That's what made me grumpy. I have no problem with them not wanting to handle cash!

And what in B&Q was absolutely essential for you to have to go in to store to get it?

TrickyKid · 26/04/2020 17:34

Yabu

WinterCat · 26/04/2020 17:34

I don’t know of anywhere open near me that is still accepting cash right now. I also thought it was the norm now.

RedAzalea · 26/04/2020 17:35

It’s to protect the STAFF from you op.... why irritated by that or are you that selfish?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 17:36

And what in B&Q was absolutely essential for you to have to go in to store to get it?

Absolutley fuck all. But if nobody went, they'd be in the shit pretty quickly!

coconuttelegraph · 26/04/2020 17:36

I assume you've missed the confirmation from the government that there is no such thing as an essential item. If a shop is open you can buy whatever you want, keep up Grin

gamerchick · 26/04/2020 17:37

If you don't have a problem, then why has it made you grumpy?

I'm impressed you stood in the queue.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 17:41

It’s to protect the STAFF from you op.... why irritated by that or are you that selfish?

Nah. But I'm mildly irritated that they didn't check the sign before plastering copies of it all the way down the queue ....

Hmm
Danglingmod · 26/04/2020 17:43

She's annoyed at the incorrect spelling - "excepting" when it should have been "accepting..."

SoupDragon · 26/04/2020 17:43

Hasn't anyone else spotted that it's a lighthearted thread about a grammatical error??

pussycatinboots · 26/04/2020 17:43

You mean they should have said accepting?
gotch.
yanbu in that case Grin

gamerchick · 26/04/2020 17:43

So it was the wrong word on the sign?

Yeah that makes me twitch. You should have taken a photo and posted it on their page.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 17:45

I saw the grammatical error and thought it was the OP's rather than B&Qs but was too polite to point it out. She should have put it in quotation marks. Grin

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 26/04/2020 17:46

Why should the sales assistant have to handle cash? Good on them for not taking cash

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 17:46

And yes, I missed an apostrophe there, Muphry's Law strikes again.

teqcar · 26/04/2020 17:46

Ohhh, I get it. It's not OP's mistake but B&Q's mistake.

Yes I would be irritated too. It's quite basic to ensure any statements/signage produced by retailers is correct.

maggiecate · 26/04/2020 17:49

Makes a change from card payment’s

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 17:49

Yes, I was feeling unreasonably pedantic about the grammar. I wouldn't pull anyone up on it on here but I do expect a major retialer to get that right Grin

Just to complete the tale, I went for some alpine plants to jazz up the front garden. Not essential, no. Apolgies to the 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' brigade. I was in and out in five minutes and retunred straight home and spent a nice hour in the garden Smile

OP posts:
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 17:53

Shit. I've spelt retailer incorrectly. I'll get me coat Grin
