..... were excepting card payments only this aftenoon? And would I have been unreasonable to go to Home Bargains instead?

I fear the current situation is making me unrationally grumpy. Well, it's either that or the bloody menopause Blush

Wow, don’t any of you have elderly relatives who struggle with card payments?
I think you’re mostly being very unreasonable.
And although the elderly are supposed to isolate at the moment, I see a lot of older people about, who have no one to help them.

teqcar · 26/04/2020 18:37

@RedAzalea

it says 'accepting' not 'excepting' op........i have seen it

GrinGrinGrin

teqcar · 26/04/2020 18:38

The thread is about grammar, not card payments.

iklboo · 26/04/2020 18:41

There was a shop near us proudly displaying it sold:

Bed's, Sofa's, Mattresse's

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 18:42

My elderly relatives are all dead now, but were fine with cards. Except apparently on an early use when MIL excitedly told FIL to 'get out his thing' when they got to the checkout.

RedAzalea · 26/04/2020 18:42

the posters are all the same @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

i don't believe it unless you can post a pic of it?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 18:42

@RedAzalea

Grin Grin Grin That went right over my head. You know, I think this lack of social interaction is seriously slowing my brain function.

I've decided to study for an A-Level next year to keep my head from going to mush .

OP posts:
mrsBtheparker · 26/04/2020 18:45

If indeed they are 'excepting' card payments does than mean they only want cash???????????????

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 18:48

i don't believe it unless you can post a pic of it?

Aaah, I thought that you were being amusing: playing on the fact that my eyesight isn't up to scratch. My bad Blush

Definitely true. I can think of no good reason to make it up. I'm not there now, so no: I can't post a pic.

But please feel free to believe that I made it all up Grin

Bed's, Sofa's, Mattresse's

Memories of Keith Waterhouse's Association for the Annihilation of the Aberrant Apostrophe!

That's a whole new thread, my all time favourite was a brand new Mercedes van with custom signage for Bridal Dress'es.

RedAzalea · 26/04/2020 18:51

the posters will all be printed at the same time like those at The Range,Sainsburys etc

or was it handwritten by staff?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 18:55

or was it handwritten by staff?

Yes. Well, actually it was typed but it had been knocked up on Word, rather than being an official poster.

Cherrysoup · 26/04/2020 19:01

Great timing! I went past a shop today with a note on it saying ‘Closed due to grievement’. I think that should be incorporated into the language, it’s quite inspired!

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/04/2020 19:11

My local Tesco has requested that everyone do their shopping as ‘quick as possible’

As quick as possible. That’s even worse.

And just because we are being pedants, I would say:

My local Tesco has requested that everyone does... (police request)

Or

My local Tesco has stipulated that everyone do... (command)

Just trying to be clever now... Wink

GoldBoo · 26/04/2020 19:12

You’re also missing the ‘r’ from afternoon in your first post @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/04/2020 19:13

Polite request. I also need my glasses. I don’t need a coat. It’s too hot!

TheRoyallingStones · 26/04/2020 19:20

I’d assumed the spelling error was yours OP. And refrained from commenting on it because I’m not an arsehole.

teqcar · 26/04/2020 19:20

Red

i don't believe it unless you can post a pic of it?

What is you problem with OP?

These posters are typed and printed at store level, it's entirely plausible that one person got it wrong.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 19:20

Have we had her for 'unrationally' rather than 'irrationally' yet?

I don't think we can really be blamed for not getting the point of this thread sooner!Grin

Nsky · 26/04/2020 19:23

Both , get help for menopause............stupid to be annoyed by such trivia

iklboo · 26/04/2020 19:24

My local Tesco has requested that everyone does... (police request)

Cor, that's a bit OTT Grin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/04/2020 19:27

There is a shop near me called

Sutton's Snax's

I quite like their "up yours" attitude to grammar.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 19:28

Well, it's created a brief, lighthearted escape from the world, so .... mission accomplished Grin

The missing 'r' was down to the lack of reading glasses. I don't know why I wrote 'unrationally': was meant to be 'unreasonably' - in line with AIBU. I'll get another coat Shock

Pumpkinpie1 · 26/04/2020 19:29

Why on earth are you going to b & q? Not really essential is it?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/04/2020 19:31

Both , get help for menopause.

I was just being flippant. Pretty sure that I don't need any help in that department.

Bloody hell, some of you are hard work!
