To think this stupid woman is the reason lockdown must continue?

So neighbours at the end of our little lane often have visitors who block the road because they cba to park 10 metres around the corner or pull onto their driveway properly. It’s irritating but fine as they move quite quickly and the neighbours are elderly.

Today neighbours had someone dropping something off but she parked directly her car in front of their house (blocking single lane narrow road completely) and shouted to him through her open car door while neighbour was stood on his doorstep. Fair enough, except DS and I were just going out on our bikes and couldn’t get past. She was well aware as could see us getting bikes out of garage. I assumed she’d move off to let us pass but she didn’t. As we approached she got out of her car and shut the door leaving us just enough room to squeeze through but stood in front of her car inches from us. She could have just stayed in it Hmm.

I asked her to move away as we were supposed be social distancing and she did saying she ‘didn’t believe in it’ and we should be like Sweden and let everyone get the virus. I said well I’d rather my family didn’t get it as we don’t actually know how they’d react and I didn’t want to risk them being among the few healthy people who died but she insisted it was all rubbish and she didn’t believe in social distancing Hmm.

AIBU to be shocked that arseholes like this exist and think lockdown needs to continue due to them?

Oh god yet another one who doesn't understand how lockdown works

Tonemeth · 26/04/2020 17:14

I'm not quite sure that's how it works Hmm

MustPutTheBiscuitsDown · 26/04/2020 17:16

Have I missed something?

I doubt SHE is the reason to be honest.

GoldenOmber · 26/04/2020 17:17

She’s being unreasonable, but lockdown doesn’t need every single person complying in order to work. It just needs enough of us doing it.

coconuttelegraph · 26/04/2020 17:17

How can you even be surprised never mind shocked at such behaviour, there are endless instances reported on here, it's in the news every day.

Don't you know about Covidiots?

KylieKoKo · 26/04/2020 17:17

The reason we are in this position is because our government failed to prepare adequately when this first started in Wuhan and because the NHS is woefully under-funded. People like this are just a distraction from the real problem.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 26/04/2020 17:19

She’s right though, we all need to catch it eventually.

The point of lockdown is to ensure we don’t all get it at the same time.

Deux · 26/04/2020 17:22

The government modelling allows for a certain % of non or limited compliance. They’ve said that we’ve all followed the guidance better than expected.

YABU to wish you’d scraped her car. It’s a bit hypocritical to moan about her and then wish you’d caused deliberate criminal damage.

ChinnyReckon123 · 26/04/2020 17:24

No, not really.

GrimmsFairytales · 26/04/2020 17:27

I suspect this isn't going quite the way the OP intended.

YABU OP, and wanting to deliberately damage her car makes you more of an arsehole than her.

CeibaTree · 26/04/2020 17:29

She kind of has a point. It's too late for the lockdown to do anything but slow the virus so we probably will all get it at some point. The UK government seriously fucked up - it's them you should be conducting your indignation towards. But you have fallen into the trap of scapegoating your fellow citizens instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

ghostyslovesheets · 26/04/2020 17:30

she's an idiot

BUT you could have waited couldn't you - you said she could see you getting your bikes out - so you could have waited for 5 mins

your 'rights' don't trump anyone elses

SturdyFriend · 26/04/2020 17:32

Yanbu. I know the woman you mean and she regularly bites bats' heads off while flying repeatedly to and from China. So yes, yes it is all her fault.

Jaxhog · 26/04/2020 17:34

Unfortunately, the lockdown hasn't stopped people from being arseholes.

Pasghetti · 26/04/2020 17:35

YANBU. She's a muppet. The fact the Govt are even greater muppets doesn't excuse her own stupidity.

BoomBoomsCousin · 26/04/2020 17:36

She doesn't "believe" in social distancing. But she moved when you asked her to and she talked to the neighbor from a distance. She's not the problem with coronavirus.

Stop trying to make her regular, run of the mill rude behaviour into some kind of attack on the health of the nation. She's just rude and annoying, not a threat.

YABU.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 17:36

Weird set of responses... definitely unreasonable of her not to have the basic courtesy to not move aside when asked.

She's also wrong re Sweden - they are social distancing, by and large, but evidently most of them can manage to do it without compulsion.

(Of course YABU to make a silly comment about wishing you'd scraped the car)

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2020 17:37

I meant 'move aside without whingeing'

BumbleBeee69 · 26/04/2020 17:38

Yes She's an ARSEHOLE ... for blocking the road OP...

StripeyLurcher · 26/04/2020 17:41

She should have been more considerate, but if you are that worried why didn't you just wait till she had moved?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/04/2020 17:42

'She’s right though, we all need to catch it eventually.'

No we don't. An unknown number, probably about 75% of us, need to end up immune to it either through catching it, vaccination or some kind of existing resistance, though we don't yet understand how or when that will be achieved.

Teacher12345 · 26/04/2020 17:43

The reason we are in this position is because our government failed to prepare adequately when this first started in Wuhan and because the NHS is woefully under-funded. People like this are just a distraction from the real problem.
They aren't though are they? The government has handled this badly yes, but one of the reasons they said they didn't want to lock down too early was because they thought people would fatigue quickly and start disregarding rules. And guess what? They were right weren't they! How many threads on here about when it will end or their neighbours are having their kids, friends and uncle bob round in the garden.

amicissimma · 26/04/2020 17:45

YABU. The point of lockdown is, as PP have said, is to avoid us all getting Covid and needing our under-prepared NHS at once.

It is NOT to prevent the proportion of us who are going to get it from eventually getting it.

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 26/04/2020 17:46

Yanbu. On either front; her behavior and wanting to scrape her car (you didn't do it, so yanbu on that).

Of course we don't all need to get it, why are they bothering with a vaccine if that was the case. I find that attitude really bizarre.
