To let you know I've just discovered thre best sandwich filling ever?

I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

Pea sandwich. Best shared, ideally post pub (my sister and I invented this when we were students).
Big bowl of just cooked peas(minty peas are the best) with mayo and lots of salt and black pepper plus buttered white sliced bread. YUM.

wheresmymojo · 25/04/2020 09:13

Veggie sausages, fried onion and a scraping of English mustard

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 09:14

I’m pregnant and my craving is cheese and jam toasties, I had it with scrambled egg the other day and DH thought I’d lost my nut. So delicious!

Moosey65 · 25/04/2020 09:14

Whilst I'm partial to a fish finger butty or a crisp sandwich, I've just discovered hash brown and cheddar cheese on soft, well buttered, thick white bread is heavenly.

MrsMGE · 25/04/2020 09:17

@Umnoway I'm pregnant too and all I eat in the morning when I'm nauseous is cheese & jam on toast!!!

TruffleShuffles · 25/04/2020 09:17

I have a few favourites, my oldest being the one I used to have at my nan’s every weekend. She used to buy posh ham from the butchers and crusty cobs from the bakers on a Saturday morning so I’d have a cob with the posh ham, lettuce, cucumber seasoned with pepper and vinegar and then finished off with a huge amount of branston pickle.

My next one is just pretty much a caesar salad in a sandwich, Caesar dressing on the bread, chicken, bacon, lettuce and cucumber.

The last one is a breakfast sandwich, this must be made of thick crusty bread to stop it going soggy. Sausage, fried egg(must be runny), tinned tomatoes and fried mushrooms.

EngagedAgain · 25/04/2020 09:18

Pretty plain really but my favourite sandwich if I'm not concerned about health is cheese and onion crisps. Has to be a nice and fresh white bread. Preferably proper butter, but not shed loads. Nothing else, just the crisps, but plenty of them. The thicker the bread the more crisps. A rare treat though ☹️

LazyYogi · 25/04/2020 09:18

Anyone suggesting toast for a fish finger sandwich is being v v unreasonable. It completely ruins the soft Vs crunchy (not crisp here) ratio.

My fav sandwich is bacon, brie and cranberry (toasted, funnily enough!) but I did recently discover coleslaw and tuna when I had ran out of mayo one day and it was delicious. Can't believe it's not a "normal" filling.

Lonelycrab · 25/04/2020 09:19

I’ve been having fried egg sarnies but with a twist.

Lightly toasted white sliced bread, vine tomatoes, slice of Gouda cheese, watercress, soured cream and of course the egg. Hmmmm. I’ve been having this for lunch every day since lockdown started.

IlonaRN · 25/04/2020 09:19

I used to love toasted white bread with Miracle Whip (wish I could find it here!) and crispy fried onions!!

firstmentat · 25/04/2020 09:20

Salmon (ideally gravadlax, if not - gently smoked), mango slice, mayo mixed with soy sauce, cucumber, sesame seeds.

DecadentDeity · 25/04/2020 09:20

Favourite sandwiches
Homemade soda farls, buttered generously, with hot freshly fried chips(seasoned with salt and vinegar), sauteed onions, steak strips and salad cream.
Ciabatta BLT with loads of Mayo...maybe some avocado too.

Poppyfr33 · 25/04/2020 09:22

Cheese and marmalade

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 25/04/2020 09:23

Blue cheese, slices of pear and mayo with a bit of tarragon in it. Sounds weird....utter bliss!
@CoraPirbright - ooh, yes, I remember that combination from way back when, but not whether I discovered it courtesy of British Rail! Anyway, it was absolutely delicious!
Now dreaming of a toasted wholemeal bagel with cream cheese, pepper salami, halved cherry tomatoes and lots of salt and pepper.

MsChatterbox · 25/04/2020 09:24

One time I fancied jam on toast and chocolate spread on toast so had one slice of each. I used the same knife to spread both. Then licked the knife. Oh my gosh 🤤. Its like a black gateau cake with both slices together.

lyralalala · 25/04/2020 09:24

Cheese, pickled onion crisps and salad cream is my favourite

Though Roast chicken crisps and baconnaise is a new contender

LuluJakey1 · 25/04/2020 09:27

@Knowhowufeel2
I intend to, noodle, but knew I'd be too full up to finish it if I'd had cheese as well now.

That is utterly pathetic! I am appalled ! Grin

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 25/04/2020 09:28

Peanut butter and apple
Salad cream and cucumber
Both have to be on white bread

YABU because the best sandwich is grated cheese and tomato. Real butter a must, mayo very welcome. Absolutely cannot stand a cheese sandwich with sliced cheese.

DartmoorChef · 25/04/2020 09:41

Cabbage and mashed potatoes

Watercoloursky · 25/04/2020 09:41

Kimchi, jalapenos, and cheese. In a toastie. That is all. Grin

mogtheexcellent · 25/04/2020 09:44

Grated mature cheddar, sliced tomatoes (cherry or plum are the best) and lashings of salad cream on thick white or 50/50 thinly buttered bread is the best.

dellacucina · 25/04/2020 09:44

Classic BLT (obviously American bacon), must be nice summer tomatoes, with both butter and Hellman's.

boomchikawowwow · 25/04/2020 09:46

My favourite sandwich is egg and salad cream with cheese and onion crisps on top.
