I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

Since we've been on lockdown I've discovered sandwiches with marmite, tuna mayo and raw red onion. Delish.

One of our Saturday morning favourites is : smoked bacon, sauted mushrooms (we all know I mean fried), a large slice of fried tomato with a dash of HP sauce on white crusty rolls from our local baker.

Another favourite, sliced boiled egg, sliced red onion, sliced cheddar cheese on top, spread small amount of Branston small chunk pickle over the cheese on white bread or wholemeal, toasted in a sandwich toaster until the cheese has melted.

@Backtobacktoback

‘You ate my SANDWICH?!!!!!!’ Grin.

I learned about soaking a piece of bread in gravy for the middle of a Christmas leftover sandwich from that episode. Amazing.

I just concocted a burger-sandwich hybrid for my dinner tonight and it was bloody lovely. Veggie burger (the ones that are mushed up veggies inside golden breadcrumbs, not the horrible fake meat ones) inside two plastic white bread slices (one slathered with sweet chilli sauce, the other with salad cream) and crammed with baby spinach, tomato, spring onion, avocado and roasted red pepper). My GOD it was good. Should’ve made two!

A slice of toast in a pb&j sandwich...

Jam on one side if each slice if bread.
Peanut butter in both sides of the toast (2:1 pb:j)

Yum

My mum used to make ‘barbecued bologna’ which consisted of cut up, fried squares of bologna, ketchup and water. Sounds awful but they were so good! The bologna and ketchup would almost caramelize and though salty wasn’t over the top. I’ve tried to recreate it and it was a disaster!

Bovril and crisps (pombears) on heavily buttered white bread
Stilton and pear with mayo on seeded bread
Dairylea and prawn cocktail crisps on white bread
Smoked ham, Red Leicester, rocket and mayo on crusty bread

@AvoidingTheWineAisle
at least you didn’t pick up tips from the episode with the traditional british trifle

Bit late to the party but hot egg mayonnaise topped with a sprinkle of cayenne pepper on any bread but white no butter req is one of my favs.

Panini with Brie, bacon and cranberry.

Sliced banana sandwiched between hot toast smothered with crunchy peanut butter.

Grated cheese and plenty of raw spinach.

It's been to long but just salad cream on white bread 🤤

Raella50 · 03/05/2020 20:02

Oh hot egg mayo sounds nice! I’m trying that!

Knowhowufeel2 · 05/05/2020 13:12

I've found 2 new ones.

I just thought why not try it together seeing as I couldn't decide which topping I actually wanted.

  1. Soft white bread with butter, sliced banana and drizzled with salad cream. Worked well together surprisingly which led me to...
  1. Soft white bread and butter with a little strawberry jam and then drizzled with salad cream Sounds weird, actually works 😋 was even nicer than no.1

@bloodynamechangethe3rd, if you love salad cream try the above sandwiches. They really work if you get the ratio right.

Sweet but tangy.

YABVU Sandwiches are awful. All of them!

I've never understood the attraction.

RuffleCrow · 05/05/2020 13:23

Cheese and onion crisps and butter.

JingsMahBucket · 05/05/2020 14:38

@Bakedpotatoandgin oooh peanut butter and dried apricots sounds interesting. I like that one. It might even go well with some cream cheese thrown in the mix too. Peanut butter and cream cheese is a thing too, especially on bagels.

JingsMahBucket · 05/05/2020 14:39

@Knowhowufeel2 are you just using salad cream by the gallon at this point? 😂

Bakedpotatoandgin · 05/05/2020 16:01

@JingsMahBucket yes I think some cream cheese wouldn't go amiss in that one. You reminded me of another good one, cream cheese mixed with chutney

yumscrumfatbum · 05/05/2020 16:10

I like grated carrot, mixed with greek yogurt and mint sauce in a sandwich. To be honest I could eat mint sauce with almost anything!
