I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

Left over shepherds pie sandwich with salt and vinegar crisps 🥰

Marcipex · 26/04/2020 18:37

Fresh hot fried onions, plus grated cheese, lovely.
Dried onions, no thanks.

CorianderLord · 26/04/2020 18:48

Also weirdly the only thing I get from Subway: white bread, melted cheese, olives, jalapeños, gherkins and mayo 🤭 I don't know what it is but it's just amazing.

They always think I'm pregnant but I have never been pregnant

Corned beef, beetroot & salad cream on an oven bottom muffin, with loads of proper butter. Mmmm....

mummy2CnB · 26/04/2020 18:55

Banana and sugar sandwiches are so nice.

user1467536289 · 26/04/2020 18:58

Ooh - that all sounds amazing - I am being educated in the sandwich protocol right here and right now!

user1467536289 · 26/04/2020 18:58

No dried onions for me either x

Itsonlymeeee · 26/04/2020 18:59

Fish finger sandwich here 🙋‍♀️ also on thick white bread only mine has grated cheese on top with fruity sauce 😋😋😋 Hubby likes cold mashed potato & salad cream sandwiches 🥪

StillWeRise · 26/04/2020 19:04

marmite and lettuce is very nice

wendywoopywoo222 · 26/04/2020 19:08

Strawberry Jam and Bovril or
Cold Cottage Pie with English mustard.

Both on thick white bread with proper salted butter.

StillWeRise · 26/04/2020 19:08

also, peanut butter, lime pickle and sliced tomato

Alleycat1 · 26/04/2020 19:29

Prawns in a mayonnaise and squirt of tomato puree sauce with tangerine segments (chopped up). Preferably in a baguette.

To the poster who mentioned toast toppers, I think you can still get it.
And the poster who mentioned cucumber sandwich spread - yes I remember that. Not food related but I used to have a cucumber face cream! ☺️

Coffeemaniac · 26/04/2020 19:34

Tuna and coleslaw on white bread! Or cheese and marmite!yum

Viviand · 26/04/2020 19:49

Thickly cut Corned Beef, raw, strong, onion and salad cream in thick bread, either wholemeal or home sliced white, a bloomer works well. I now know what I am having for my lunch, tomorrow!

EngagedAgain · 26/04/2020 19:50

Has anyone mentioned a triple layer? Well three slices of bread. I used to do that, but with a 'matching' filling, ie cheese or ham with various salads.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 26/04/2020 19:54

Heinz were so right when they said salad cream is sunshine in a bottle.
God l love the stuff but didn't realise it was am English thing only!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 26/04/2020 19:55

And just to be clear, l didn't name change for this threadSmile

mumda · 26/04/2020 19:57

red onion finely chopped, mixed with grated cheese and mayonnaise.

RedFaerieBoots · 26/04/2020 20:00

My favourites are

Cheese and peanut butter (has to be the crunchy one) on bread then toasted.

Fish fingers and sweet chilli sauce on slices of white bread with mayonnaise spread on.

Left over roast turkey with cranberry sauce and a slice of the cheese slices (the cheap ones that come in sleeves) on bread toasted).

kasm · 26/04/2020 20:05

In a sandwich or on digestive biscuits...cheese and black currant jan....my gran used to do it...everybody that has ever said eughhhh when they try it are soon converted lol

Racheyg · 26/04/2020 20:13

A pub near my parents used to sell
Black pudding
Raw brown/white onions
Mango chutney
In a fresh thick cut loaf. It's was surprisingly tasty

ssq2 · 26/04/2020 20:14

Clotted cream, honey and banana - got to be on Bakery thickly sliced crusty bread. Clotted cream must include the 'crust' . Absolute food of the gods 👌

Noflora · 26/04/2020 20:20

ooh I'd forgotten about Crispy Fried Onions all ready to go. Can anyone tell me if the brand they use has stopped using palm oil please.

Cheese has to feature in any best sandwich imo

browneyes77 · 26/04/2020 20:22

Philadelphia spread (full fat, none of this light bollocks) crispy bacon and Avocado with a bit of black pepper sprinkled on to give a bit of a kick.

Yum yum, get in my tum Grin
