I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

Racheyg

Was it The Inn at Whitewell? Best black pudding I’ve ever tasted, by a mile. They make it themselves.

The best breakfast sandwich-thick white bread and proper butter, bacon, fried egg, sauteed mushrooms, Heinz ketchup. Best lunch sandwich- slow cooked cola gammon, extra mature cheddar, homemade coleslaw. Preferably on thick crusty wholemeal.

ThistleTits · 26/04/2020 20:29

Buttered thick white bread, battered fish fingers, pickled beetroot and ketchup. Works really really well of Scottish square loaf. White toast, a thick layer of chocolate spread and banana.

LisaD76 · 26/04/2020 20:41

Strong cheddar and jam, preferably apple & strawberry or mixed fruit

Pawsandnoses · 26/04/2020 20:43

Fish fingers, baked beans and tartare sauce.

MulticolourMophead · 26/04/2020 20:50

I have sometimes made tiny meatballs, and put them in a wrap with marinara sauce and grated cheddar. Eaten hot.

Supermum29 · 26/04/2020 21:02

My ex used to eat raspberry jam and cheese sandwiches Confused

Bakedpotatoandgin · 26/04/2020 21:09

Whoever said miso and peanut butter sandwiches, I didn't have any pb so I tried it with tahini, which is also excellent. Actually I'd forgotten, the best sandwich I've ever had was a steak sandwich at the Delicious Deli and Cafe in Ilkley, it was strips of steak with mushrooms in the pan juices, with mustard, on a chunk of baguette. Possibly biased by the fact I'd just walked 15 miles in baking heat with a massive rucksack and was fast heading for exhaustion - the lovely shop keeper took one look at us and said "you look knackered!". Sadly I don't live near Ilkley, so it'll be a rarely repeated experience.

Toasted bagel with smoked bacon,a hash brown and omelette with tomato sauce.

Fish fingers on white bread with sliced gherkins, salt vinegar and tomato sauce

Suzypoo10 · 26/04/2020 21:20

Fish fingers, cheese, gherkins and horseradish sauce or
Mashed potato, fried until it’s crispy
Both in fresh, soft, thickly sliced white bread

I love salad cream in potato salad - I use boiled potatoes, finely chopped gherkins and chopped boiled egg, with big dollops of salad cream, salt and pepper - yum!

Lovely13 · 26/04/2020 22:30

Salad cream and mayonnaise are work of the devil. 🤢

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 26/04/2020 22:51

There was a sandwich shop near Ranmoor Halls in Sheffield that did bacon, cream cheese and coleslaw. I've never been able to replicate it and have tried many a time. Was tremendous

Rachel709 · 26/04/2020 23:43

You should have put the cheese in... Fail.

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 26/04/2020 23:46

Banana cheese toast on brown bread.

Lightly toast a piece of bread. But the grill on the oven.
Butter the toast
Slice bananas
Squeeze on tomato ketchup cover with cheddar cheese and melt under the grill until bubbling
Sounds dubious - I thought so too until I tried it! Fabulous

marton4710 · 27/04/2020 01:20

Mine is so refreshing on a hot day.

You need buttered bread or roll for the sandwich.

Use mayonnaise, mix in shredded chicken, mix and add one teaspoon of curry powder. Then dice a green pepper and add. Mix all together and it is awesome.

TKAAHUARTG · 27/04/2020 05:08

Banana cheese toast on brown bread have you actually had your taste buds removed? —I am probably (definitely) going to try this—

enragedpenfold · 27/04/2020 05:48

1984 miracle whip, yellow squeezy mustard and kraft plastic cheese slices on sliced white
1989 those Brie and grape sandwiches from boots
1993 bacon Brie and cranberry with a few artisan leaves
2001 - herb cream cheese on everything bagel with avocado
Approx 1980 to present - literally anything in the fridge layered up as long as it includes beetroot for the texture, sharp old cheddar, salt and pepper and at least five other salad ingredients, minimum height two inches doorstop crusty bread.
Have also tried the dried apricots in cream cheese, but do that sort of thing on jacket potato instead of sarnie.

enragedpenfold · 27/04/2020 05:49

Oh noooo. Banana is for peanut butter. Not cheese.

PooPooOfferson · 27/04/2020 07:43

Beetroot, cheese and horseradish.

BBOA · 27/04/2020 08:44

Egg mayo and cheese and onion walkers crisps!!!

Armadiloes · 27/04/2020 09:07

I love fried onions and can eat them with anything. I love fried onions with some sweet chill sauce mixed into the pan just as you turn off the heat - if you try it watch as its piping hot but man its delicious!

cravingthelook · 27/04/2020 09:31

I made a 'nacho wrap' last night! Flipping awesome

MrsBadcrumble123 · 27/04/2020 09:43

Brie and salad cream here

Blobby10 · 27/04/2020 09:58

@Supermum29 Cheese and jam sandwiches are the BEST!!

Back in the early 70s when cheese was way cheaper than ham and my mum was on a really strict food budget, she used to encourage us kids to eat the cheese sandwiches by smearing some jam on them too! If we had a birthday party or something with leftovers (alwayts had parties at home in those days!) , she used to dip them in beaten egg and fry them - OMG they were delicious and I now really want to try them again. Grin

bloodynamechangethe3rd · 27/04/2020 11:30

Ooh. Salad cream is my fave.
I like a cheese apple and branston sandwich, cheese and jam on toast, marmite and marmalade, you have to put them on separate toasts and then smush them together, my husband gags at some of my sandwich fillings!! Celery, apple, shredded chicken with salad cream in a baguette is good too!
