I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

When we fly home from holiday my go to in the airport (where you can get a meal deal from boots or w h smiths, nothing else is open) is a mature cheddar sandwich on white bread with ready salted walkers crisps added to it (pressed down of course)

Flying home to the UK in the middle of the night, and back to reality, this is my welcome home gift to myself Grin

Ham, cheese coleslaw and mango chutney - taste sensation!

Fuzzybumblebee · 26/04/2020 01:01

I love a beef and red onion sandwich or a turkey and stuffing one sometimes turkey and branston pickle 😋

Eastender77 · 26/04/2020 01:09

Tuna mayo with cucumber and cheese and onion walkers.

I’m fucking starving now..

SlowHorse · 26/04/2020 01:35

As kids we would have Peanut Butter, Jam and Butter on white bread sandwiches!

Also, toasties made with (obviously) white bread, butter, jam and processed, sliced cheese.

Recipe: toast white, sliced bread. Slather with butter, then jam before topping with slice of processed cheese. Stick under grill and wait until it 'balloons' and Browns to your desired shade of cheesy loveliness. Yum. A soupcon of delayed gratification because pure lava if munched immediately.

You're welcome.

Banana mashed up with cream cheese.

Badabingbadabum · 26/04/2020 02:03

Bread, white but sliced or posh, cream cheese, cold sliced sausage, mustard.

Badabingbadabum · 26/04/2020 02:07

Ooo, I once had a sandwich from a little platter during a working lunch (God, when I think about the expense now, there were only three of us!) of roast beeh, a smidgen of mayonnaise and mango chutney. It was amazing and I recreated it many times after. Forgot all about it until now!

Knowhowufeel2 · 26/04/2020 04:18

@BrandyandBabycham, you're welcome. If toy like sugar sandwiches try condensed milk ones 😋

Chicken (plain roast), onion and mayonnaise on ordinary white (buttered) bread. Mayo on both sides. Cut into diagonal quarters. Add a lot of pepper and salt and vinegar crisps. This thread had me wanting one all day so it was especially delicious when I had it last night, so thank you OP

BigBirdsbird · 26/04/2020 08:16

Thank you to whoever just reminded me about cold potato sandwiches
Sunday lunch sorted

BrandyandBabycham · 26/04/2020 09:29

Just remembered DM used to make banana, honey & raisin sandwiches. And I used to like Sandwich Spread but not how it looked!

Ineedanamechangeagain · 26/04/2020 11:04

For tea on Christmas Day we always have the family over, everyone brings Christmas dinner leftovers and a sandwich toaster and we make huge Christmas Dinner toasties all round. Everything goes in, gravy, bread sauce, stuffing, parsnips, carrots, peas, cranberry sauce, meat, pigs in blankets, left over roasties... they are amazing

HowCowBrownNow · 26/04/2020 11:18

My pregnancy craving was Dairylea and ready salted crisp sandwiches.

ThatLibraryMiss · 26/04/2020 11:51

The best sandwich ever:

  1. Take two slices of good brown bread
  2. Spread one very lightly with miso paste
  3. Spread the other with crunchy peanut butter
  4. Put a generous layer of lettuce (not iceberg; use one of the floppy ones, or little gem) on the PB
  5. Add a layer of thickly sliced tomatoes
  6. Top with the first slice of bread
  7. Eat quickly, before it goes soggy
  8. Exclaim, "Bloody hell! She's right, it's amazing!"
ThisIsTheGreatestShow · 26/04/2020 13:02

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed I love a peanut butter and marmite sandwich too although I favour the crunchy sort. Peanut butter also goes well with marmalade and with cheese.

EngagedAgain · 26/04/2020 13:33

@BigBirdsbird 😂😂😂

EngagedAgain · 26/04/2020 13:41

Just thought of another one, not had this in ages. Nice fresh white bread (funny how most involve 'unhealthy' white)

German salami, and preferably a strong cream cheese, although philadelphia is nice too, and plenty of both. The name of the cream cheese I would have escapes me at the mo, but think it's seriously strong cheddar.

Cakemadeoffruit · 26/04/2020 14:02

Pot noodle sandwich. No butter, noodles must made quite dry, either chicken or beef.

Or take a crusty cob (yes it's a cob) and make a hole in the side with your finger and hollow out the inside, then pour your poor noodle inside. Amazing!

EngagedAgain · 26/04/2020 15:21

Great idea, but your description had me in stitches, it all sounds quite rude! Presumably why you emphasised it was a Cob!

MulticolourMophead · 26/04/2020 15:22

I like the sound of a lot of the combinations mentioned here.

But sometimes, you just can't beat a good, old fashioned, cheese and tomato sandwich. On buttered white, with the merest hint of salt for the tomatoes.

TheStarryNight · 26/04/2020 15:24

Blue cheese, apple and passionfruit

MulticolourMophead · 26/04/2020 15:25

It was this thread that made me stop at the butchers yesterday and get a portion of their handmade potted beef. Yum, not had it for years.

panicstationsready · 26/04/2020 15:25

Mashed potato - with lots of butter. Nothing like it. Ever.
