Other deaths being recorded as Coronavirus

Hello, my friend is a nurse. She told me that she is questioning the deaths which are being recorded as Coronavirus. She said that she had a patient dying of Cancer, but it was recorded as Coronavirus

I saw another nurse here on mumsnet say the same thing. She said that she had a patient that was dying of cancer, but they recorded it as Coronavirus.

What do you think?

Daft conspiracy theory IMO. official death figures will be out again today from ONS and all deaths are way up regardless of cause, no way this is being 'blown out of proportion' if anything deaths are being massively underreported.

Possibly this scenario: patient has cancer.. Contracted covid19, died of complications of covid and the cancer is secondary..

I think when this is over we should compare the number of deaths from all causes for the year, to the number if deaths in other years. Then we’ll see.

What we have to mindful of is that deaths are being recorded as "with Corona virus" not "of Corona virus". On the flip side they are only reporting deaths in hospitals and care homes.

I think that was sarcasm

I think the figures aren't indicative of actual numbers anyway as they don't account for those outside of hospital, plus 'with' and 'because of' are sometimes tricky to distinguish. I suppose as long as the way it's recorded is consistent it still should demonstrate peaks and troughs which is probably more important than actual numbers.

That nobody who succumbed to their cancer has had their death recorded as Coronavirus.

It does seem to be a confusing one. I have read all sorts about it.

Some are reporting that that other countries are only recording deaths from Covid not with Covid and that is the reason their death totals are so much lower then ours.

I have no idea what is actually going on and what is the truth. The media say one thing and others like a thread on Mumsnet about how quiet their hospital wards are say the opposite.
We’ll probably never know the real truth.

Nurses dont see the death certificate. The cancer may well have killed him eventually but the Covid might have got there first

Remember weeks ago when all the ‘friends who are nurses’ were reporting the first confirmed covid admissions etc?
And the ‘friends who are nurses’ who don’t need food donations or clapping?

I reckon we’re missing a trick by not listening to the people whose ‘friend is a nurse’

I've heard the same in the uk - everyone who has died at my local hospital was life limited (yes this doesn't mean imminent)

You need to learn the difference between acute/ immediate cause of death and underlying conditions. Someone with Cancer who dies in a car accident, the cancer didn't kill them. If someone with cancer catches COVID19 and dies, their acute death is COVID 19. Cancer weakens your immune system, but if they didn't have COVID, they wouldn't have died right then.

There is also a massive lack of tests, so they are recording likely cases (people who meet the symptoms but couldn't get tested). In a pandemic, you need the most information possible in order to track it. Deaths are being massively underreported, especially for the elderly.

Also, the whole "inflated numbers' is really dumb, right-wing, tinfoil hat conspiracy theory thinking. Are the illuminati and 5G behind it?

Nomorepoliticsplease ‘Nurses don’t see the death certificate’ ? That’s factually incorrect. YOU may not see death certificates but there are nurses in other clinical settings who do.

So in a very timely announcement for the OP England and Wales have seen 8.5k MORE deaths in the week up to 10 April than the 10k which would be predicted for this time of year.
National death rates have hit a 20 year high.

Death certificates are taken incredibly seriously and it’s a huge problem for a doctor to be recording inaccurate information. I can’t see anyone risking their career like that.

So the figures released today are lies?
Why are the government lying?
Are people really not dying from COVID?

@Lemonblast I don't believe those statistics. I don't just have one nurse friend. I have numerous friends who work in that sector, and they are all saying to me that they feel that something is very wrong with how things are being reported

Government members don’t fill in death certificates. Doctors do.

What did they get out of it. They were able to control alot of us very quickly

Your ‘nurse friends’ have clear processes in place for raising concerns.
If they believe that doctors are being forced to produce fradulent death certificates then they really need to act.
Again, this is the sort of thing the Daily Mail will be picking up on very quickly so maybe your ‘nurse friends’ would like to speak to the media directly?
