AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!

I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

I do the same as you, always have! Slimy drain hair is disgusting.

neversleepagain · 19/04/2020 08:50

I comb my hair well before I get in the shower and throw any loose hair in the bin then I don't have much fall out at all when I wash it.

QuitMoaning · 19/04/2020 08:51

I have a catcher on the plug. We just then clean the plug out every couple of showers. I am only one in house with long hair though.

YeahWhatevver · 19/04/2020 08:51

Comb before showering.

dontlikebeards · 19/04/2020 08:52

I do the wall thing!

MiddlesexGirl · 19/04/2020 08:52

Stick it on the wall? Yeuch Envy

I do as pp - comb any loose stuff out before I get in - isn't that the obvious way?

TeddyIsaHe · 19/04/2020 08:52

I do the same as you and then wipe it off with a tissue and stick it in the bin. I have waist length hair and spend a fortune on drain unblockers even doing that!

namechangecareerchange · 19/04/2020 08:54

Same as you - comb first and then anything that comes out in the shower stick on the shower door.
It's only gross the 5% of time I forget to do that.

Assume we're talking head hair?! Grin

TheMandalorian · 19/04/2020 08:54

Yep. I stick it to the shower screen and clean it off into the bin when I get out. Dh hates hair in the drain.

Reginabambina · 19/04/2020 08:55

In the U.K. I put it in the soap dish to dispose of, the drains are so tiny that leaving it for the cleaner would be a bad idea but I shed handfuls over the course of a week so it might work for others. In Australia I just let it go down the drain (none of this weird trap business here and drains seem to be able to handle it).

sufferingsandra · 19/04/2020 08:55

I stick it on the wall.

I have thick hair and lots of it comes out when washing.

I just flush it down the loo afterwards

quietheart · 19/04/2020 08:55

I have a cover over the shower trap, I have long tweezers which I poke down to catch those that have escaped. Then they go in the bin. I think I will try combing my hair first @neversleepagain I’ve never even thought of that Grin

TheBananaInPyjamas · 19/04/2020 08:56

I do the same! I have loads of hair and lose a lot. Any that comes out on my hands (like when doing conditioner) goes on wall, but also have a cover on the plug. Then just clean wall with tissue and clean plug every few days.

To leave that to a cleaner is so entitled!!!

ChazP · 19/04/2020 08:58

Same as you. I’d be mortified if anyone else had to clean out my skanky drain hair!

woodencoffeetable · 19/04/2020 08:59

brush before showering and removing the hair from the hair catcher right away.

YewandOak · 19/04/2020 09:05

Wash it

TheBananaInPyjamas · 19/04/2020 09:06

@yewandoak you're lucky. How do you stop your hair falling out? I've tried everything

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 19/04/2020 09:08

Properly brush before the shower. Makes massive difference. Then just clean the drain with glove on when needed

lotusbell · 19/04/2020 09:08

I have a lot of very thick hair and I lose a lot when washing it. I have a sink drainer in the plug hole and I have to stick it on the glass door or tiles when I'm washing it. It takes quite a while. It gets on your skin and in your butt crack. I have to get it out of the comb and obviously the sink strainer. After my shower I scoop it all up and put in the bin. My drains would be rather blocked if I didnt. On the rare occasion I forget to collect it from.the tiles, it dries out and drops off. It's a pain in the arse but necessary 🤷‍♀️

scrivette · 19/04/2020 09:09

Brush beforehand and then on the wall/side of the bath. It's much easier to pick off when dry so I sometimes leave it for an hour or so.

That's a horrible job for a cleaner to do.

lotusbell · 19/04/2020 09:10

Yep brushing beforehand helps catch a lot of it before washing but I always forget and I still.lose it as I'm washing.

TKAAHUARTG · 19/04/2020 09:10

I did not know this was a Thing! My daughter must be doing this, the grim little fucker. I just clean the trap after the shower, but I am the only one who does. I clearly live with animals.

Straycatstrut · 19/04/2020 09:11

I brush before the shower too, and sometimes have a ball of hair on the side of the bath ('til it's flung in the bin!). I've had plughole slimy hair balls before and ....gag....

Had loads of hairballs post-birth! scary amount.

Be interested to see what your friend does with hers.

literategiraffe · 19/04/2020 09:12

I do the same thing! It's better to wipe it off and bin it later than let it block the drain!

CheshireDing · 19/04/2020 09:12

Same as you OP, even wipe it off the tiles with a tissue like you !

There is still lots goes stuck in the plug hole thingy though, I clear that once a week.

How grim that your friend expects the cleaner to pull out her hair 🤮
