AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!

I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

Stick it to the wall?!! Never heard of that!!

Um I just wash mine and have never been aware of spare hair needing to be removed. I put Mr Muscle down the drain. I take out the filter and wash when it's clogged.

BlindTwitcher · 19/04/2020 09:18

Yep also do the wall thing and then wipe after. Much better than it getting in the plug hole!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 19/04/2020 09:23

Yep, stick it to the tiles then wipe off and bin after. I have a lot of hair and the drain gets blocked very quickly if I allow it to just land where it falls.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 19/04/2020 09:24

I brush my hair before going in and i use a drain catcher then put the hair in the toilet and flush but when im in the bath if i get a hair on my hand for example ill put on the side of the bath and remove with tissue when i get out

Gatehouse77 · 19/04/2020 09:24

Same as you.

thatgingergirl · 19/04/2020 09:27

It just washes down into the trap either off my head, or off my hands. I clean the trap out afterwards with a pair of tweezers kept for the purpose.

I don't think what you are doing is gross. I think leaving it for a cleaner is horrible.

I hate the bit in the tv advert for gas boiler repair where the hair is pulled up from the plug - yuk!

chatwoo · 19/04/2020 09:28

I wrap it around my finger, and place it on the thing that holds the shower head up (bracket?) and put in bin when finish showering.

Imboredinthehouse · 19/04/2020 09:28

I have a catcher on the plug & after my shower I grab a bit of tissue, clean the hair catcher out & put it in the bin.
Hair on the wall makes me think of this pic Envy

I am amazed. I never knew this was a thing. I have really thick, long hair and have never stuck it to the wall or emptied the plug? It's never been an issue?

Am going to speak to DH now - has he spent years cleaning my hair out of the plug and not telling me?

Bagelsandbrie · 19/04/2020 09:31

Never ever heard of sticking it to the wall!

I just wash my hair and let it go down the plug. Never even think about it! Maybe every few months I use a Mr Muscle plug unblocker to keep the water flowing down the plug well and that’s that!

Megan2018 · 19/04/2020 09:32

Same, stick it to the wall then wipe as soon as I finish, I have thick hair and losing loads post partum.
It’s not there long enough for anyone to see so can’t see what is disgusting about it?!

TheOrigBrave · 19/04/2020 09:32

Catcher over plug hole. I then put in bin.
Leaving it for a cleaner is horrible. We have LOTS of hair in our family!

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 19/04/2020 09:32

Clearly I lose a lot less hair than other people! There is never any visible hair in the shower and we just chuck drain unblocker down a couple of times a year.

PositiveVibez · 19/04/2020 09:33

Stick it to the wall???? I can't believe so many of you do this. I have never, ever heard of this in my life and I grew up with 3 other sisters and my mum, so lots of females in the household and none of us ever did this.

Never heard of it.

We just end up using something (can't remember what it's called, bit could probs dissolve a human body 😁) if the drain ever gets blocked. Once in a blue moon.

Queenoftheashes · 19/04/2020 09:36

I don’t do anything either 😂

blueskys72 · 19/04/2020 09:36

I used to be a wall/shower screen sticker too! I think a lot depends on the plumbing tbh - I have to put drain unblocked down mine almost weekly because they're crap drains and the DCs have long hair!

lovinglavidaloca · 19/04/2020 09:36

I’ve never thought of brushing my hair before I go in to get rid of any loose ones.

I lose so much in the shower there’s always that moment I think there’s a spider crawling down my leg but it’s just a little pile of hair Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/04/2020 09:36

My cleaner has never cleaned out the hair. Dh does it usually. Sometimes I do too. I don’t get stray hair when washing these days. Not long enough. Dd hangs hers on the shower door handle.

Yellowsubmarinedreams · 19/04/2020 09:37

I stick it to the wall then bin after shower. Not like you're leaving it there forever more. Hmm

NekoShiro · 19/04/2020 09:38

My hair falls out so much after I condition it, so many clumps and ill easily and quicklu block a drain as I have hair down to my lower back, if I'm in a shower I stick it to the wall, if I'm in the bath then I just stick it on the edge ready for when I get out to scoop into the bin.

Having all that hair floating around in my bath is the most annoying thing ever as well, constantly have hair wrapped around my fingers or getting trapped on my prickly bits, I don't know how I would cope not putting it out the water somewhere.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/04/2020 09:39

I am struggling to understand this (probably because I've only just woken up, so, forgive me). Those of you who are sticking your hair to the wall, where are you taking it from to put it on the wall? Are you picking it up off the shower or bath floor while showering? I have a hair catcher in my bath, it would seem a bit odd to pick it out of there and put it onto the wall before disposing of it. I just pick it out of the catcher with a tissue after my shower and put it in the bin.

userxx · 19/04/2020 09:40

Nope, never heard of this bizarre practice. I did spend about 15 minutes the other day pulling hair out of the plug, so satisfying.

lovinglavidaloca · 19/04/2020 09:41

@RichardMarxisinnocent I assumed the ones that end up on your person in the shower or on your hands.

Astoatora54 · 19/04/2020 09:43

I assumed the ones that end up on your person in the shower or on your hands.

I have no idea what you mean and I have never noticed any hair in the shower!

merrymouse · 19/04/2020 09:49

I'm confused - are you all sticking it to the wall because you are conditioning and then combing out before you rinse?
