AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!

I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

I also give it a good brush before getting into the shower. And I have a scalp massager thing that I use to comb the conditioner through my hair and that picks up a few hairs too. The hair catcher in the plug thing needs to be declogged every so often, but most of the hairs aren't mine (I can tell by the colour).

mumwon · 19/04/2020 09:52

we leave plug in & have bucket underneath to cat water & than recycle watering the garden Grin we have water meter - but I have never noticed hairs on wall & very few in the bath/shower

Jellybum2019 · 19/04/2020 09:52

I have never heard of this either! If I have a bath and I lose hair I tend to scoop up what I can and pop it on the Side of the bath and then straight in the bin when I get out - never done anything like that for a shower though!

hammeringinmyhead · 19/04/2020 09:52

I run my fingers through to distribute the conditioner (curly hair - never brush dry) and then yep, stick to wall and take with me when I get out!

EverythingChanges321 · 19/04/2020 09:53

I have a short pixie cut which I’m maintaining at home.
So any hair that naturally sheds will only be less than 2 inches long so I’ve never noticed my hair coming out in the shower.

I think your friend was rude to comment. It’s your shower and you’re cleaning it. I think you’re friend is Very cheeky leaving it for her cleaner. Yuck!

emmathedilemma · 19/04/2020 09:53

Stick it on the wall! I don't know what's so gross about that??

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 19/04/2020 09:54

I'm confused too

At what point during the shower should hair retrieval commence? And from where?

TaTuirseOrm · 19/04/2020 09:55

I do the same as you OP.
For those asking, mine comes out in my hands when I shampoo/condition it.
I always clean it up before stepping out of the shower so what's disgusting about it?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 19/04/2020 09:55

Ah ok I get it - when combing out conditioner!

My hair doesn't tend to come out when (if) I do that but if it did I would leave it on the side then bin it

hammeringinmyhead · 19/04/2020 09:57

There is no "side" in a shower cubicle, hence wall!

longearedbat · 19/04/2020 09:57

I brush mine before I wash it, then also comb it through when it's got conditioner on. Most of the loose hair seems to get caught in the comb.

OhTheRoses · 19/04/2020 10:00

I brush my hair before the shower and regularly clean the hairbrush. I have never noticed hair coming out in the shower. Cleaner cleans bathrooms twice a week but mine have all been trained to give a spray and wipe after baths and showers.

tiedy · 19/04/2020 10:02

I roll it up into a little ball and put it on the side of the basin then put it in the bin once I get out the shower. Cleaning out the plug hole is gross.

Oldraver · 19/04/2020 10:08

I have never heard of sticking haor to the wall before

I always give my hair a good brush and have a hair catcher in the plug hole which I clear regularly

Your friend is disgusting leaving this to the cleaner

HostaFireAndIce · 19/04/2020 10:09

I think your friend was rude to comment
She did send her a photo of it though 😁

DatsunCogs · 19/04/2020 10:10

I'm interested in the hair catcher concept, do you just mean the regular sort of star shaped drain that's part of the plug hole, or something else?

I don't do anything with my hair, it doesn't especially fall out in the shower, that I've noticed!

Bouledeneige · 19/04/2020 10:14

I have a special hair stick to remove hair from the drain as both my DD and I have a lot of hair. It is slimy but rather satisfying. I dont notice the hair falling out so it never occurred to me to stick it to the wall.

SpillTheTea · 19/04/2020 10:17

She's the gross one leaving it to her cleaner and I'd tell her exactly that. Why is she so up herself that she can't do it herself?

mogtheexcellent · 19/04/2020 10:17

I roll it into little balls and leave as a present for DH. It's a love token.

socialistmamma · 19/04/2020 10:18

I love this thread, I thought it was just me who did the wall thing, feel like I've found my people Grin

Jojoanna · 19/04/2020 10:18

I have never heard of sticking my hair to the wall ? I have long hair

Gingertam · 19/04/2020 10:20

I brush my hair before I get in the shower and have never noticed any hair. I do clean the plughole out regularly and there is some hair. I just remove it with a huge tweezer I bought from one of those catalogues you get pushed throught the door. Strangely satisfying! I am amazed though that people would expect a cleaner to do that. Mumsnet never ceases to amaze me showing me how dreadful some people are.

Bubblewings · 19/04/2020 10:26

If you were talking about smearing a bodily fluid on the shower wall I would get it...but you’re talking about hair...just hair which you dispose of instead of it going into the shower trap. Surely this is the opposite of gross? What is gross is your friends attitude in believing that the task of removing her own hair is too beneath her and is obviously a job only fit for a cleaner Hmm

CorianderLord · 19/04/2020 10:39

Mine just washes down the plug hole tbh... can't say I've ever had to do anything with it

koshkatt · 19/04/2020 10:41

Ditto and my hair is very thick and quite long. I am completely grossed out that people stick their hair to the tiles in the shower. I mean WTAF? When did this become a 'thing'? Envy
