AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!

I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

I shower my mum and pull her hair out

What on earth do you mean, you pull her hair out??

VanGoghsDog · 19/04/2020 22:23

have a think about how much water that is, assuming you're flushing the loo just for hair and not one of those from a thread in previous days who doesn't flush the toilet after using it for its intended purpose.

I put the hair in the loo but don't flush it until it is used again.

I also don't flush after a wee unless it's the last one at night. Doesn't hurt to leave it and saves water. I live alone so noone else is affected by this.

I’m another one amazed by all this. Just wash my hair, would never have any hair in my hands to stick, and just clean out the plug every few months maybe. Do some people just shed more hair than others?

FeedMeSantiago · 20/04/2020 00:03

@Merename - I've always been a malter. Now I wash my hair every 3-4 days and only finger detangle when my hair is conditioned with no dry brushing in between I lose quite a lot of hair when hair washing.

My hair is long, thick and wavy so maybe I've more hair to lose than others.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/04/2020 00:57

Mine comes out a lot when I'm not in the shower but I don't comb conditioner through, I just bung it in and let it stew for as long as it takes to wash my body, then rinse it out. I do have one of those little gadgets though that is shaped like a daisy and has a chain that goes down the plug hole, any hair winds itself around the chain and I pull it up and remove the hair every month or so. I dread to think what hair is on there now - DS shaves in the shower and I'm fairly sure the hair on the chain is mainly his (different hair colour to mine). When DH was alive and having chemo, I would have to pour Mr Muscle unblocker down regularly though as he moulted a lot.

enragedpenfold · 20/04/2020 01:11

Dd1 sticks her thick waist length moultings to the wall. We don’t share a shower, so I only notice it when I take a bath. I periodically request that she shaves the wall, please and thank you.
I use a wet brush. It at least traps all the moult in the brush and I can pull it out and bin it when I get out.

drigon · 20/04/2020 02:50

I haven't experienced the hair loss thingy either. I have fine, straight hair, shoulder-length and a few hair come out when l rub it dry, but never noticed it coming out in the shower or bath. Nothing wrong with sticking hair against the shower wall, as long as you wipe it up afterwards.

mous · 20/04/2020 03:12

Who takes a photo of their wall drain hair and sends it to a 'friend', are you serial killers

I put catchy thing on top of the plug and clean trap out every other day for the bold ones who still manage to slip through. If you do trap every day or other, it doesn't go gross or slimey. Ithought a catchy thing and cleaning trap every few days was standard Confused

I lived with a girl who stuck not only her moult clumps to shower wall, but her (worn) sanitary towels to loo wall as a temporary holding bay before disposing of them. Of course she used to forget both things were there and walk away without a care in the world, leaving a nice surprise for bathroom's next visitor👍😵

Reginabambina · 20/04/2020 03:51

@RichardMarxisinnocent mine comes out in my hands while combing through conditioner.

Lynda07 · 20/04/2020 04:16

Erm - I just wash it. What am I supposed to do? If I find hair bits afterwards I either clean them away or leave until next time.

Ugzbugz · 20/04/2020 04:52

I've never heard of this? I have shoulder length hair and always brush before I get in but never feel or see my hair come out as I swsh it but my hair is very fine...

RichardMarxisinnocent · 20/04/2020 07:48

Thank you for the explanations everyone! My shortish hair does come out, but not into my hands or onto my body hence my confusion.

Callaird · 20/04/2020 08:57

@RealBecca I did ask her if she’d like to see the gross hair photo before I sent it!!

@VanGoghsDog

I mean run my fingers through her hair when conditioning to remove loose hairs and stick them on the wall. She only washes her hair twice a week so get loads.

This thread is brilliant haha. For all the people saying you've never heard of it, I guess it's not something that's discussed (until now!!) I also don't get what's so gross? I lose a LOT of hair when doing conditioner/rinsing that it's in my hands. It's far less gross to wipe my hand on the tiles than to drop it at my feet to go down the plug? Then when I get out I clean it immediately. How is that gross?!

SunshineOverStress · 20/04/2020 09:59

I stick mine to the wall too! And then collect it and put it in the bin after lol

Scruffyoak · 20/04/2020 10:04

Comb first and use plug catcher.

TeddyIsaHe · 20/04/2020 10:25

@TheBananaInPyjamas don’t try and understand the Mumsnet hygiene preferences. You’re a disgusting witch if you use a bog brush, and if you don’t wash your towels on a 900 degree wash after every single use you’re a total slattern Grin

lotusbell · 21/04/2020 09:08

I have a lot of hair so do lose a lot when washing. And taking a photo of it stuck in the tiles is exactly the sort of thing I'd send to my best mate but then again we're growing our leg hair in a lockdown competition so it probably says a lot about us!
