AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!

I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

I clearly have weird hair. Which stays stuck to my head when I wash it and later deposits itself on my bedroom floor!!

Chewbecca · 19/04/2020 12:01

I'm another totally boggled one here.

What hair is being stuck to the wall?

I just wash and go!

MargotB7 · 19/04/2020 12:03

*callmeadoctor

Who are you all that are pulling your hair out in shower? I just wash my hair and get out!!!!!!!! What a strange thread.*

I'm reading it, feeling puzzled.

I get hair on my brush but it doesn't fall out in the shower.

Snaga · 19/04/2020 12:11

I have so much hair loss during a shower (even after brushing beforehand) that if I let it just flow down to the drain it would block the drain before I'm finished!

Any hairs that come loose in my hand get stuck against the shower screen and are cleaned up immediately after. Leaving it to run down the drain is far more disgusting...especially if you expect someone else to clean it.

I'd love to have hair that doesn't resemble a bush and sheds like a labrador. Rather jealous of all of you who don't have this as a problem!

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 12:20

What hair type do those of you who have hair coming out in your hands and / or stick hair to the wall of the shower have?

vanillandhoney · 19/04/2020 12:22

Very fine and frizzy hair. Mine comes out really easily.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 19/04/2020 12:30

I comb it out with my fingers while conditioner is on. It all comes out into my hands and I put it on the side of the sink, then in the bin when shower is done

Watertorture · 19/04/2020 12:32

@anothernotherone I would have been as surprised as you until I hit my late 40s and the stuff seems to come out in handfuls now

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 12:39

vanillandhoney I have fine hair too - goes frizzy if I brush it but I don't brush it. Maybe a bit frizzy some days even if I don't brush it Grin I don't use conditioner either any more. Maybe it's products not hair type... Or maybe just one of those inexplicable things obviously!

I did blow a hoover up with my hair in my late teens when living alone and not hoovering often enough... I guess maybe some people loose hair in the shower and others at other times of day! Very confusing...

Annabk · 19/04/2020 12:43

I do the same as you. Goes into a bit of toilet tissue post-shower then into the bin. Never had a blocked drain so must be the best way!

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 12:44

Watertorture oh no! Is that it! I only have a year or two then - I don't like the sound of having to stick lost hair to the wall at all!

Is that the root of it? Does it only start happening around menopausal age?

My hair is actually looking better due to lack of hairdresser / colouring as the grey needed covering before the hairdresser's shut and I hadn't got around to it, but now has grown through and is actually nearly white and has blended into my natural hair colour - I'm going to leave it. I don't want it to fall out!

Is that the real reason nobody mentioned for everyone of my mother's generation having "sensible" short hair when I was a teenager? Sad

Watertorture · 19/04/2020 12:50

Sorry to have alarmed you! (And it's perimenopausal , thank you! Wink )
I still have a good head of shoulder length hair, it doesn't mean going bald, just a lot more seems to come out Confused

bluebeck · 19/04/2020 13:01

No I don't think it happens to everyone during menopause. Certainly didn't for me and I am mid fifties now.

So, consensus so far is fine, thin, frizzy hair is more likely to come out in the shower. Thick, coarser hair, not so much?

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 13:02

Watertorture sorry, perimenopausal!Grin Glad you still have lots of hair! I don't think I'll stick mine to the wall, I hope it won't start falling out Sad

Watertorture · 19/04/2020 13:03

My hair is thick though, but definitely curly (frizzy? Sometimes!) not fine at all. or maybe each individual bit is fine, but I just have a lot of it?
(Never thought about this before - but this is a nice distraction from virus thoughts!)

bluebeck · 19/04/2020 13:10

Mine looks like this. Don't be jealous - the rest of me looks like shit Grin

AIBU to ask what you do with your hair in the shower?!
anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 13:12

Watertorture that's what mind's like - a lot of wavy hair, but the individual hairs are fine not thick. People I haven't seen in a while sometimes come over having spotted me from a distance and open with "I knew it was you! I know that hair!" Blush. I'm doomed! Sad I will not stick my hair to the wall, there must be another way...Confused

Megan2018 · 19/04/2020 13:12

Mine is very thick and straight and comes out in vast quantities. Yet it’s still too thick!

ComeOnGordon · 19/04/2020 13:12

I have very thick very curly hair that I probably only wash once every 5 days. And in between would never get a comb through it so when I wash it in the shower & then condition it, I then run my hands thro it and loads of hairs come out. These hairs I then stick to the shower wall till I’m finished then I put them in the bin.
For those who’ve never heard of it, there’s probably a lot of things people do in the shower that they don’t tell you about!!! I find it much more hygienic than letting it all go down the plug hole

ASandwichNamedKevin · 19/04/2020 13:13

What hair type do those of you who have hair coming out in your hands and / or stick hair to the wall of the shower have?

I also have very fine hair, lots comes out in the shower and when brushing it, always has done.
If I'm in the shower and it's in my hands I'd rather put it in the bin than down the drain. I don't have a hair catcher plug in the shower, it's one of those round disc things.

I don't leave hair on the wall when I'm finished, so no one else using the shower would know about it.

anothernotherone · 19/04/2020 13:13

bluebeck that's very nice hair

vanillandhoney · 19/04/2020 13:14

I guess maybe some people loose hair in the shower and others at other times of day! Very confusing...

Mine seems to come out constantly! When I wash it, when I brush it, when I tie it up, when I remove hair ties, if I fall asleep on it wet....

I'm surprised I'm not bald to be honest Grin

Chillicheese123 · 19/04/2020 13:14

I comb it in the shower and it gathers in the comb which i clean out and bin

sufferingsandra · 19/04/2020 13:53

@ASandwichNamedKevin

I’m quite happy with my current processes but thanks for your input 😊

OfaFrenchmind2 · 19/04/2020 14:13

I have thick very long hair, and lose the equivalent of a voodoo doll each shampoo. I shampoo them, rinse, then apply the conditioner. while it is setting, I comb my hair, catch what falls off from the comb, put it on the soap stand, and bin it when done. Job done!
