I sent a photo to a friend saying that you know that you’ve been in lockdown too long when you had pulled out more grey hairs than dark this morning.

My hair was stuck to the shower wall. She was appalled, said it is totally gross.

I do this all the time, wipe it off with a tissue and put it in the bin. I hate hair, makes me cringe, even my own but I hate cleaning out the shower trap even more, slimey hair is worse. (Obviously some get through so I clean it out daily!)

She said that it was disgusting to stick it to the wall and that she just left it to her cleaner to clean it out each week. I think that is gross, poor cleaner and like us, hasn’t had a cleaner for 4 weeks, she hasn’t cleaned out the trap.

What do you do with your hair in the shower?

@sufferingsandra I wasn't suggesting you were putting floss down the loo like our house guest, but just a kind of, have a think about how much water that is, assuming you're flushing the loo just for hair and not one of those from a thread in previous days who doesn't flush the toilet after using it for its intended purpose.
Just small changes can help the environment, I've lived somewhere where water wastage was really avoided due to drought and things like my sister running the tap while she brushes her teeth or using the loo as a bin really grate now.

But anyway, back to the hair on the wall discussion...

BelfryBat · 19/04/2020 14:59

I clean out the plughole after the shower. It never occurred to me to do it any other way.

Callaird · 19/04/2020 15:05

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I comb my hair with my fingers when shampooing and again when I condition and pull out loose hairs. I’m like some of other posters, if I don’t pull it out I end up with a fur ball in my bum crack! Usually to find it much later in the day!

I only wash my hair every other day and there’s not much when I do shower. However, yesterday I didn’t Shower as I waited 6 hours for a doctor to call back after calling 111 for my mum. It would have been Sod’s law they’d call as soon as I jumped in the shower. So it was three days of hair.

I’m shielding at my parents, they have a wet room, we cannot get a hair trap for it. The drain is good at catching hairs but other people’s hair makes me gag. I shower my mum and pull her hair out and stick it to the wall. She cannot talk so hasn’t told me if she thinks it’s gross!!

I never even thought about brushing my hair before going in the shower!! I will try that from now on.

I don't understand this thread (sorry haven't read the full thing). I wash and conditioner my hair, what do you mean stick it to the wall?

Theukisgreatt · 19/04/2020 15:16

Are you wall stickers, the same group who don't wash their hair very often? Wondering if the daily washers are those who are baffled. No judgement intended, we all have different hair types!

Pinkblueberry · 19/04/2020 15:22

I brush my hair quite thoroughly before washing to avoid it all coming out in the shower. Minimal amount goes down the plug. I don’t know why your friend thinks it’s gross to stick it on the wall if you’re going to remove it after though, therefore YANBU. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong here really...

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 19/04/2020 15:40

I'm not a wall sticker as mentioned above but I do lose a lot of hair in the shower and I wash my hair almost every day.
I've got very thick hair made up of a lot of very fine strands. That definitely seems to be common thread among posters.

Callaird · 19/04/2020 15:48

@callmeadoctor the average woman loses 50 to 100 hairs each day.

I’m quite lucky that I don’t have to brush my hair every day (especially whilst shielding with my parents!!) so I can lose well over 100 when washing my hair. It’s quite thick, quite dark and quite long. I’ve always lost a lot of hair daily, in my late 20’s I went to the doctor because I thought I was going to end up bald (pre Google!!)

This very interesting. I'm jealous of anyone who doesn't need to brush their hair regularly or wash it daily!

Gatehouse77 · 19/04/2020 16:15

I wash my hair daily.

DFAMA · 19/04/2020 16:23

I'm with you op, slimy drain hair is rank!

woodencoffeetable · 19/04/2020 16:40

but if you take the hair out of the plug directly after the shower it's not slimy?

Picassoh · 19/04/2020 16:57

I would find it a bit gross that you’d sent me a pic of it!

TerrorWig · 19/04/2020 17:02

I wash my hair rarely and never brush when dry as it’s curly and I would break more off than anything. It’s very thick, I can stand to lose loads.

So yes, when I wash, I ball it up and stick it on the wall while showering then wipe and flush down the toilet when done. Still end up with a rat in the drain every few months!

I don’t wipe it off with a tissue. What a waste of a tissue!

MulticolourMophead · 19/04/2020 17:23

I give my short hair a good brush first, then any hairs that do make it to the plughole get scooped out and stuck to the side of the bath, ready for me to wipe off with tissue into the bin, afterwards.

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2020 17:26

I wash my hair every day, it's reasonably long and very thick. But I never notice any hairs in the shower. I have never heard of this hair sticking of which you speak.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 19/04/2020 17:42

I have really thick curly hair that’s down to my bra strap. I loose so much hair each time I shower the family joke I could save it and make wigs. Yep mine goes on the shower wall too!!!

Deadringer · 19/04/2020 18:33

For some reason my hair doesn't come out when i wash it, so i rarely have to clean out the plughole after i shower. A lot comes out when i brush it though. I don't like the sound of hairs on the wall, it sounds a bit rank. My dd has long dark hair and a lot collects in the plughole after she showers, i chuck hair remover down every now and again, it makes it easier to clean.

HoldMyLobster · 19/04/2020 19:24

I rarely brush my hair so perhaps that contributes to it falling out in the shower.

I do the same as the OP. I recently discovered one of my daughters does and one doesn’t. Unfortunately i use the same shower as the one who doesn’t, so we end up with a ton of slimy hair in the drain.

RealBecca · 19/04/2020 19:45

The wall is absolutely disgusting. Even more disgusting to send a picture of it.

YOU don't like hair but you thought someone else might want to see a picture of it? 🤢 errrm no.

pinkstar01 · 19/04/2020 19:53

I collect mine as they fall in the shower and keep them in a ball on a ledge and then throw in the bin

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 19/04/2020 20:29

I comb through my hair with my fingers while rinsing it and that pulls out a lot of hair (curly so I never brush it). I stick to the wall of the shower then bin when I’m done. Much less disgusting that pulling it out of the drain!

winterisstillcoming · 19/04/2020 21:23

Mine tends to fall out when I brush my hair afterwards.

Immac down the plug hole dissolves everything.

FeedMeSantiago · 19/04/2020 22:00

I don't brush my hair when dry as it's so bad for curly hair. I do the curly girl method so lose a lot of hair when washing as it's only a few times a week, and no brushing in between. I stick on the wall too and bin afterwards. Otherwise I end up with slimy plug hair - grim!

VanGoghsDog · 19/04/2020 22:13

Sticking your hair to the shower wall sounds vile. Taking a photo of it and sending it to a friend is both weird and unpleasant.

I just wash mine and clear the drain out when it starts running slow, about three times a year.
