Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

We don't flush wees if they're done in the night. Before bed we would flush. But the closer it gets to morning we don't want to disturb the children as they are prone to waking early! Would obviously flush a poo but they don't seem to happen in the night.

likeafishneedsabike · 17/04/2020 21:56

We are trying to limit flushing at the moment : the water bill will rocket with us all at home. A wee should not stink the place out if the creator is hydrated. Maybe your DH needs to drink more water? I make everybody flush first morning wees as they STINK!

DappledThings · 17/04/2020 21:57

We don't flush wees every time even in the day. Definitely not at night.

Mosschopz · 17/04/2020 21:58

Jeez......It’s not ‘absolutely disgusting’ to not flush the loo in the night, it’s a waste of water, needless noise and unnecessary to flush the loo when no one is actually going to going in there for several hours.

tiredanddangerous · 17/04/2020 21:59

No we don’t flush a wee at night. The noise would wake everyone up.

DollyDoneMore · 17/04/2020 22:00

Revolting. Flush the fucking toilet!

SimplySteveRedux · 17/04/2020 22:00

I flush 24/7 regardless of pee/poo.

PlunkyPlinky · 17/04/2020 22:01

Well I think it's absolutely disgusting!

OhMy05 · 17/04/2020 22:01

Same here, don’t flush wees in the night. It’s flushed first thing in the morning. Doesn’t smell ( or I’m noseblind?!)

BananaPlant · 17/04/2020 22:01

We don’t flush at night for a wee as the DC’s bedroom is right next to the bathroom.

JungleGiraffe · 17/04/2020 22:01

We'd much rather have a slightly smelly loo in the morning than 1yo DS waking up in the middle of the night and screaming his head off!

BrooHaHa · 17/04/2020 22:01

There is a saying in our house. If it’s yellow let it mellow, it it’s brown flush it down.

Sorry, but 🤢

A housemate once asked me if I'd heard that rule- I was mortified, presumed I must've forgotten to flush.

KnobwithaK · 17/04/2020 22:01

We flush all the time but I know plenty of families that don't so I don't think it's abnormal not to..

indemMUND · 17/04/2020 22:02

I would flush every time. Except that now the flush on our loo doesn't work and we've had to put up with this for a month and a half because our landlady refused to get it fixed before lockdown. So I'm filling a bucket for us if it's not wee and our shower is poor to begin with. Count your blessings.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/04/2020 22:03

When I lived alone I wouldn’t flush a wee overnight - mainly because the flush was noisy. Now I always flush. DP has a bladder of steel and never, ever goes for a wee at night.

lightyearsahead · 17/04/2020 22:03

We don't flush overnight

FuckPolitenessSSDGM · 17/04/2020 22:03

YABU. If it's just a wee it's fine not to flush overnight, it won't stain your loo. We don't do it because the noise used to wake DD up but now we just do it out of habit and because it saves water.

Panpastels · 17/04/2020 22:03

It's only wee ffs

ScarletFever · 17/04/2020 22:04

You dont need to flush every wee, you should be drinking enough that it doesn't really smell

cookiemonster5 · 17/04/2020 22:04

Always flush otherwise it ends up leaving a ring at the waterline and stinks. No excuse not to especially with modern toilets which are more water saving. And who wants to go find someone else's pee in the toilet?!

JellyfishandShells · 17/04/2020 22:04

Stinks ? Does he have asparagus as a bedtime snack ?

Clawdy · 17/04/2020 22:04

Middle of night wee, never flush. First up in morni

Middle of night, no flush if rest of household asleep. First up in morning flushes it.

Clawdy · 17/04/2020 22:05

Oops, printed twice!

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/04/2020 22:06

No.
I wasnt allowed to flush the loo at night when I was growing up, or put the light on as it triggered the fan.
Or actually do anything other than stay in my room with the door shut and nake no noise from 10.30pm.
I hated it.
I always flush the loo.

Northernsoullover · 17/04/2020 22:07

I don't flush at night. Always during the day.
