Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

Ick, of course I flush it. And I'm from London!

HarryHarry · 18/04/2020 15:52

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but when I was younger there was an ad campaign on the Tube telling people not to flush if it’s just a wee.

In our house we always flushed at night but that’s stopped since we had babies as they wake easily. We flush by 5am when they get up for the day so it’s not a big deal.

I am on it, my business is slow anyway!

@OneandTwenty 😂 good. Don't forget that these are movable! Great marketing in it imho😂 Just dig a new hole, move the shithouse, fill old holeGrin
You might need some digger equipment 🤔

Don't flush a wee, such a waste of water. And no, it doesn't smell in the loo. Unless you've got a UTI or been eating asparagus/drinking champagne...

raspberryk · 18/04/2020 18:31

How is a little blood more disgusting than pee?!!!!!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/04/2020 18:35

Also have the motto : if it's brown flush it's down if it's yellow let it mellow. The amount of water used in a single flush is a lot.

And a wee at night doesn't get flushed because the plumbing is really loud and goes on for ages

BubblyBarbara · 18/04/2020 18:58

Tbh any man who can’t deal with seeing your poo in the toilet is not a man to stick with. He’s going to be seeing a lot more than that when I’m old.

PigletJohn · 18/04/2020 21:12

And any woman, of course.

Arthursblanket · 18/04/2020 21:24

Our plumbing sounds like a Concorde crash landing, so with a 1yo and 3yo, we dont flush wees after they're in bed. I hate it. I hate finding stale wees in the morning, but hate waking small people more.

kmc1111 · 18/04/2020 21:42

I don’t flush at night, but I drink loads of water so my pee doesn’t have noticeable scent. If I was more dehydrated and it did smell then I’d definitely flush.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 18/04/2020 21:56

It’s not just pee though, presumably if female there will be pee and toilet paper in the loo so just looks awful even if pee is clear?

PigletJohn · 18/04/2020 21:57

@Arthursblanket

A new part 2 ball cock will fit that at insignificant cost.

The Pegler is better if you can find one.

sausagepastapot · 18/04/2020 22:01

In this house, wee is not flushed at night. Noisy waste of water.

Fromthebirdsnest · 18/04/2020 22:08

We don't flush wee 's at night ,we live In a Victorian house so it's old an creaky and the plumbing is quite loud no way do i want to wake the kids 😱 who would risk that ? X also we whisper when the kids are asleep it's weird but weve always done it and watch the tv.quietly with subtitles , our children are ALL terrible sleepers i think this is why we do all this.😂😂😂

LucaFritz · 18/04/2020 22:38

I dont flush at all if its just a wee never have done and my loo is spotless. What a waste of water just for 1 wee especially on a water meter too.

Scruffyoak · 18/04/2020 22:49

We flush it no matter time of day.

FabbyChix · 18/04/2020 22:56

In the old days but now Jesus flush

YinMnBlue · 18/04/2020 22:56

We don’t flush at night.
Actually I am the only person who gets up for a wee in the night, everyone male sleeps through.

The flush is noisy, it’s a waste of water , it’s no problem to not flush.

Anna783426 · 18/04/2020 23:10

FIL doesn't flush and when he stayed with us when I was 30 odd weeks pregnant the smell made me vomit. Fine in your own house but in someone else's and if you know you are a 64 year old man with smelly pee...

YinMnBlue · 19/04/2020 19:00

What has age got to do with the strength of smell? The piss of 64 year olds smells more than that of 30 or 40 year olds?

I do agree that when staying in someone else’s house flushing is a minimum standard of manners.

BubblyBarbara · 19/04/2020 19:02

Yes. More protein in the wee in older men I think due to their prostates breaking down

FenellaVelour · 20/04/2020 01:09

Didn’t notice anyone mention this...

mathanxiety · 20/04/2020 04:03

Tellmetruth4 excellent post.

Everyone complaining about Niagara like noises at night is also experiencing Niagara like volumes of water going down the drain.

Get yourselves low volume flush loos and dare to flush. You will notice the difference in smell between loos that have and have not been flushed at night within the week.
