Not my knickers

Butternutsqoosh · 09/04/2020 10:29

Found some black lacy knickers in the wash this morning. Not mine, not my kids, was I being unreasonable to ask my husband whose they were? They were mixed up with his washing on the bedroom floor. He's now not talking to me because I "accused him of being unfaithful " I didn't, I asked him whose they were and why they were in his washing. It has transpired that my daughter put put them on the floor in our room because they were in her clean washing and weren't hers. He says I was being pissy but I wasn't, I was just asking whose they were and why they were there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

How could anyone manage to have an affair with all this going on? Have you even left the house?

VeryShortNotice · 09/04/2020 14:15

We once found a pair of women’s running tights in the washing and couldn’t figure out where they’d come from. Eventually we figured out that they were DS’s stepmum’s and must have made their way to ours in his bag (to just be dumped in our washing basket).

Could easily have been pants instead.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/04/2020 14:18

DD could have brought them home from swimming accidentally and they got washed with laundry and ended up in her room?

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 09/04/2020 14:28

@Bluesheep8

Wood pidge? flying? Not wearing drawers?

I should think not.

Only superman is allowed flying pants.Wink

That happened to us too, size 16 black lacy thong! (three sizes to big for me and I'm not a thong wearer) I never did work out where they'd come from!

Quarantino · 09/04/2020 14:34

There was a thread on here where a woman had found some expensive knickers that weren’t hers, the thread was about 30 pages long, transpired the cat dragged them from the back of the radiator I think, belonged to the previous owner if I remember correctly.

@EllaAlright thanks for that, were they the Swedish brand plain white ones? I don't think I ever caught the end of that!

GreyishDays · 09/04/2020 14:35

And how did they find out that the cat did that?

BovaryX · 09/04/2020 14:50

And how did they find out that the cat did that?

He signed a confession after being threatened with removal of Dreamies.....

1forAll74 · 09/04/2020 14:53

Are the knickers from Primark, Harrods,or Ann Summers ? Or maybe your husband bought them for you, but then realised that you only wear white cotton ones, so threw them in with the washing, and hoped you wouldn't notice ha ha

LookTheOtherWayPlease · 09/04/2020 14:56

Why did she put them on your bedroom floor?

Because presumably she thought they belonged to the other knicker-wearer in the house?

mumwon · 09/04/2020 15:08

hang on dh is embarrassed because he decided in lock down he fancied wearing them because they look more comfortable or because he purchased some for you umpteen years ago only to realize you either don't wear that type or they are the wrong size. Do you have a cat op or a cat burglar? (I did warn you my sense of humour is getting more warped) Grin

mumwon · 09/04/2020 15:09

or dd friend picked up her dm knickers by accident & lest them behind or visa versa

mumwon · 09/04/2020 15:09

left them behind! doh

Yallreadyforthis · 09/04/2020 15:11

What size are the step daughters?

mumwon · 09/04/2020 15:19

off subject an advert has come up with a hat which has a scarf round it you can wear as a mask (US site!)

Straycatblue · 09/04/2020 15:21

What size are the step daughters?

This ^

This seems like the most obvious explanation when they've been staying with you

Awesome2020 · 09/04/2020 15:22

Size may be irrelevant, I wear two sizes bigger than my clothes as they always seem tiny.

taptonaria27 · 09/04/2020 15:30

Have you got a cat?
Our cat once brought in a little top from next doors washing. I didn't know she'd done that so when I found it my heart dropped even though I had no cause whatsoever to doubt dh.
Maybe tellingly, dh was as puzzled as me, not defensive in the least and did not think or accuse me of accusing him of cheating. I did make sure to do it in person so I could see his face and I believed him.
It took us a few days to work out it was the cat as she'd never done it before.

NearlyGranny · 09/04/2020 15:34

His defensiveness and over-reaction suggest a guilty conscience. My theory is, they came home in DH's trouser pocket after an assignation, went into the wash, forgotten, perhaps stuck in the drum, emerged with that or a later load and were dried and sorted into DD's pile.

Watch him. Don't apologise you asked an innocent and perfectly reasonable question. If his heart was pounding in shock, that's why he got defensive.

Other scenarios are available, but... watch him.

Poppi89 · 09/04/2020 15:41

You'd be crazy to NOT ask if he knew where they'd come from. Surely you would check with everyone in the house.

The knickers themselves wouldn't worry me TOO much but his reaction DEFINITELY would! Not only did he get defensive but now he's trying to make you feel guilty for asking a completely normal question. If he had found boxers I bet he would ask you.
He may not have cheated but he definitely knows where they came from.

emsyj37 · 09/04/2020 15:53

As a PP has said, I too have had a cleaner who did her laundry at my house. I only ever found kids stuff which clearly wasn't either mine or DH's as we didn't have any kids then. It could just as easily have been adults' underwear. Do you have a cleaner who comes when you're out?

LakieLady · 09/04/2020 15:55

Trophy cats deserves a thread of their own, really, but the one I had once walked in the back door with most of a slice of toast and marmite in his mouth.

I told a friend, who had a fantastic trophy cat. The following weekend, his trophy cat trumped the toast by dragging home a whole pizza, still warm!

CaptainCabinets · 09/04/2020 16:15

@FizzyGreenWater except they were clean and turned up in the DD’s clean washing pile, but be dramatic if you like

A mysterious jumper turned up when I used to house-share, neither of us knew where it came from. Fast forward five years, my mum was wearing THE VERY SAME ONE a few months back. We didn’t know where it had originally come from or how it eventually came to be in my Mum’s possession, as it had never belonged to her either. Very odd.

And for the record, I’d be fuming with DP if some random pants appeared and he immediately assumed I had something to do with it, especially if they had been found in another family member’s clean washing.

CaptainCabinets · 09/04/2020 16:17

Another suggestion - does your DD get on with and like your partner?
