ScarlettBlaize Well you've certainly achieved your aim of derailing what was a lovely thread. Bravo. Well done. You must be proud.

ScarlettBlaize I’m with you.

Pointless and dangerous. Loads of people standing 2 feet apart ffs.

I support NHS workers, particularly by NOT voting conservative.

evilharpy · 26/03/2020 22:06

I didn't go out, because I'd just seen a photo of the new COVID-19 hospital in the Excel and was busy having a little cry about all the people who will occupy those beds. I didn't want my neighbours to see me upset. But if it happens again next week I will go out and make sure I don't look at the news right beforehand.

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:09

@helgahelga I don't eat chocolate, but congratulations on (weirdly) investing the time in locating and posting that image of a Snickers bar. Not quite sure what point you were hoping to make, but I trust you feel good about it. And as we all know after reading this thread - that's all that matters!

@Longwhiskers14 Well you've certainly achieved your aim of derailing what was a lovely thread. Bravo. Well done. You must be proud.

Yes, what matters is that you and all the other self-congratulators here can carry on feeling just GRRRRREAT about yourselves for doing something completely empty that helps no one. And then posting about it on social media to do a bit more mutual back-slapping.

What a shame it is to point that out and suggest that maybe some actual help would be more welcome.

helgahelga · 26/03/2020 22:10

@ScarlettBlaize

Yes dear... Now off to bed for you my love. Smile You're over-tired.

milliememum · 26/03/2020 22:12

@ScarlettBlaize as a key worker still going into work to support the effort of others, I fail to see how this demonstration of public gratitude and thanks can impact the NHS in a negative way, if at least 1 NHS worker heard it and felt appreciated, job done

EstherMumsnet · 26/03/2020 22:12

Hi all, thanks for all the reports. Difficult times for everyone, let's keep it civil please.

helpmeandmybrokenbum · 26/03/2020 22:12

Sw19- Wimbledon - very loud and moving here, helped by St. George's hospital saying they could hear all the clapping 💕

Longwhiskers14 · 26/03/2020 22:14

ScarlettBlaize Okay, you win. We're all awful, shallow, pathetic people for wanting to join in a unifying gesture that showed NHS workers how much we appreciated them and you're the most brilliant, clever and special person in the world because you could see it for the stupid thing it was. Here, have a medal.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/03/2020 22:16

I know that at least three nhs workers in my road appreciated it.

helpmeandmybrokenbum · 26/03/2020 22:18

What "full" things can we do then, @scarlettblaize? I have no money to give as my husband has been furloughed and I am part time. I have no time to give because I am working 12 hour days from 6-12 helping in a supermarket and 12,30-5 at hone, then putting my baby to bed and finally settling down for dinner at 9.30. I can't give physical support to the nurses. I can tell my NHS worker friends and family that they are incredible. Knowing that people heard the applause in our local hospital has made my day. What are you doing, despite shitting on people's pleasure and being a curmudgeon???

Skyrabbit · 26/03/2020 22:18

Very loud clapping and whooping on Northumberland and lots of shouts to our neighbours at the top who are front line - nurse and paramedic.
Fabulous idea.

Longwhiskers14 · 26/03/2020 22:20

helpmeandmybrokenbum 👏

Rumboogie · 26/03/2020 22:21

I didn't know about this and wondered what all the noise was about. Was itching to open my window and tell the feckers to sharrrrrrrap! but restrained myself.

My DS enlightened me later. Couldn't believe it. Have to agree with @ScarlettBlaize - what a load of pointless bollocks! Utter cringe!

I also think that come next year (or whenever) and taxes are raised to increase NHS funding these same people will be complaining loud and clear

Youwonjane · 26/03/2020 22:21

@Allaboardthemagicbus2020 it was a little bit posh - a bit awkward smiles and “should we start yet” Grin

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:22

@helgahelga
Yes dear... Now off to bed for you my love. smile You're over-tired.

You literally just went and found a picture of a Snickers bar to make a point (which remains opaque to anyone who isn't you, but I'm sure is a very witty comeback in your own mind). Thanks for the advice.

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:24

@milliememum I fail to see how this demonstration of public gratitude and thanks can impact the NHS in a negative way

It doesn't. Nor in a positive way.

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:27

@helpmeandmybrokenbum

What are you doing, despite shitting on people's pleasure and being a curmudgeon???

  1. Distributed 1000 flyers offering help, did shopping for elderly neighbours and relatives
  1. Got a fever and cough and therefore am observing self isolation along with the rest of my household even though we were properly starving yesterday with no milk, bread, fruit or veg (and young children in the house)
  1. Donated money to funds for freelance artists and to Camden food bank

Why?

BillyAndTheSillies · 26/03/2020 22:28

Lots of clapping, pots and pans banging and a few fireworks. Our local fire station lined all the fire engines up and turned on the sirens and flashed the blues.
Very emotional, surprised to see our whole street out and everyone waving to each other again.
We are self isolating so just hung out the upstairs window instead of going out in to the street.

milliememum · 26/03/2020 22:30

@ScarlettBlaize I guess we can agree to disagree then, I see no need to derail the thread so completely with negative thoughts and words, pleas and Thankyou kind regards Grin

Chesntoots · 26/03/2020 22:30

Here at S25 there was clapping, cheering and a couple of fireworks.

Thank you to you all

milliememum · 26/03/2020 22:31
  • please
Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 26/03/2020 22:31

@Youwonjane

That sounds about right! Brief, polite and all a bit confused. Grin Not whooping it up like SE13

WorraLiberty · 26/03/2020 22:31

My neighbour's son came home from work at 8pm and as he entered the street, he wondered why everyone was clapping.

He thought they were clapping him and it was some sort of elaborate hoax Grin Grin
