For those of you who think it doesn’t matter, it does, really. It has made my work FB light up feeling loved and cared for. My staff and me go in day after day anxious and stressed and this has made them feel happy.
Please don’t stop looking after these people, the stress at the moment is beyond horrific. And please do not compare nurses to soldiers. No one goes into nursing to potentially die from a virus.

Remote, quite rural SE Kent - we went out the back and there was a lot of shouting, cheering etc. very moving, I hope it makes NHS staff feel appreciated - although quite understand that PPE would be more useful.

I forgot and only remembered 10 mins ago. I've just been pottering around the house. I didnt hear anything so assuming my street didnt.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 26/03/2020 20:43

Tolleshunt · 26/03/2020 20:43

PickMeImNice · 26/03/2020 20:44

I’m in Lancashire on a fairly large housing estate, saw maybe 3 or 4 people clapping, saw a handful of neighbours stood around chatting but not clapping. Most didn’t bother.

theemmadilemma · 26/03/2020 20:44

Our little cul de sac shouted, whistled and clapped. Smile

ThomasHardyPerennial · 26/03/2020 20:44

Oh great, I didn't know. Now all my neighbours will probably think I'm an arsehole.

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/03/2020 20:45

CR2 was out clapping too

Then DH showed me footage of the London Ambulance staff opening their windows and listening to the applause and that finished me off

moultmorethanthedog · 26/03/2020 20:45

Didn’t know about it, think the idea is cringe.

february08baby · 26/03/2020 20:47

I wasn't going to. I thought no one would and that it would make no difference but DD wanted to, then we heard the whole street. It was lovely.

On a side note, HOW CUTE / BIG is prince louis now?

Applejaxx · 26/03/2020 20:47

Loads of clapping, whistling and whooping (and fireworks) in SW London. It was great!
Brought us all together for a few minutes!

BlimeyCalmDown · 26/03/2020 20:50

I thought it would be cringeworthy and nobody in my street would anyway but they did and it was truly lovely, thank you! (waiting to be deployed!)

JanewaysBun · 26/03/2020 20:50

We had bells in SW!

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/03/2020 20:51

Didn’t know about it, think the idea is cringe

Well, my dsis who is a nurse dealing with Covid patients said it gave her a real boost and made her feel like people are really grateful to nhs workers.
So I don’t give a crap if it made you “cringe” quite frankly!

Lockheart · 26/03/2020 20:52

Whilst it's no doubt lovely, I'd encourage people to help in more practical ways if you're not already doing so.

Sign up as a volunteer. Give blood. Donate money. Offer help to NHS workers in your local communities (with shopping for example).

Standing outside clapping might be easy and cost you nothing more than 2 minutes of your time, and it might make everyone feel good, but real practical help is needed too, and everyone can get involved in some way, even if you can only give £2 to your local hospital trust.
