What about everyone else?

OP posts:

Lots of clapping, people out on their doorsteps, beeping of horns, cheering and woo hoos here in Devon.

I may have something in my eye

Bowerbird5 · 26/03/2020 20:53

I went out. Next door neighbour works for NHS and her friend who moved two doors down the other way was standing near them. I went in. For goodness sake why can’t people think. They didn’t appear to be two metres away from each other.

Rollinghillside · 26/03/2020 20:53

Didn’t know about it, think the idea is cringe.

Good thing it wasn't for you, then.

SanFrancisco49er · 26/03/2020 20:54

Lots of clapping South Wilts/Hampshire border! Really heartwarming and touching and quite emotional. So proud of and grateful to our NHS staff.

Ginfordinner · 26/03/2020 20:54

Clapping and cheers here in rural S75.

hiredandsqueak · 26/03/2020 20:54

Every house on our cul de sac clapped as did many others from the shouting and clapping I could hear around us. Ds said his street was out as well.

VerbenaGirl · 26/03/2020 20:54

Lots of clapping in CM23, it was a lovely moment within the current turmoil.

houseofhungryboys · 26/03/2020 20:56

Lots of clapping in Wokingham 👏👏 #clapforourcarers ❤️👨‍⚕️🚑

ChicChicChicChiclana · 26/03/2020 20:56

"Think the idea is cringe"

I'm sad for you that this is your reaction.

GoatsDoRome · 26/03/2020 20:56

@Rollinghillside

Actually I am a nurse (granted at this point I’m “just” a staff nurse on a medical outliers ward). And I’m not on facebook to have heard about it. So does that entitle me to my opinion more now?

Thought would be 'cringeworthy' too (terraced street, Huddersfield, W.Yorks). But about half the street were enthusiastically out. Though clearly constituting, an 'illegal gathering of more than two persons'.....which I will be reporting !

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 26/03/2020 20:57

Lots of clapping and cheering here. It was lovely.

CalmdownJanet · 26/03/2020 21:01

Rural Ireland here and we had loads out, I thought it was lovely.

A big thank from me to all front line staff wherever you may be Flowers

RedRec · 26/03/2020 21:02

West Yorkshire, HX7. Having been eyeball rolling about it all day (introverts here) my teenagers and I found ourselves clapping and whooping and whistling along with many of our neighbours. And there were fireworks from somewhere close by. It was very moving.

Becca19962014 · 26/03/2020 21:04

The people who did so here got told to shut the fuck up, go home and learning some fucking responsibility. By the NHS worker next door. When told it was for him and all in the NHS repeated himself.

Loads of people went out, I could hear lots of clapping, banging of pans, banging on street lamps. They kept going ignoring him.

He was not impressed.
To say the least.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 26/03/2020 21:07

Lots here (Surrey) - my friend who is frontline NHS was very touched. Some NHS staff will find it pointless, some will love it.

It will certainly help morale of those staying in to feel they've expressed their gratitude (we have a recovering patient on our street) and for that alone I think it's worthwhile.

WorraLiberty · 26/03/2020 21:07

Clapping and fireworks in my street.

Quarantimespringclean · 26/03/2020 21:07

We are in CR8. Quite isolated and high up a hill but there were fireworks and I could hear lots of cheering and clapping down in the valley and some nearer neighbours came out too. So much better and more moving than I expected.

billy1966 · 26/03/2020 21:08

All the famly clapped. Well done 👏

AwfulSomething · 26/03/2020 21:10

Essex here. Our road was rowdy! Total support for the NHS, fighting a battle few of us could and I say this as an emergency services worker. What happened tonight was our unity in respecting amazing people in a way we could.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/03/2020 21:10

I'm on a naice estate. Lots of people on the doorstep clapping. Quite sweet, really.

Sobeyondthehills · 26/03/2020 21:17

If you did manage to clap for a little while, can I also encourage you to write to your MP about the key staffs pay and funding for the NHS.

While they will probably not get round to it, till everything has settled, at least the Government will have a strong feeling of what the General Public think. When they open their emails to have 1000 of emails all saying pay them more

Loveatortie · 26/03/2020 21:18

Wr2 here lots of people out clapping, one firework. I clapped for all the workers who are putting themselves at risk for us. Stay safe

kateandme · 26/03/2020 21:20

after the nhs left all the people with mental health on their asses i found it very difficult to do today. after trying to get people now in cirsis with help removed some support i feel a bit tired with it all.DO not begrudge the lives at risk on thr fronline at the moment.but the consequences are rippling already at the stretched care system.and e all suspected the vulnerable would go first

finnmcool · 26/03/2020 21:20

I'm on a working class estate. The whole neighbourhood came out.
We had clapping, cheering, car horns honking, saucepans being banged and fireworks, the solidarity shown, was amazing!!
