What about everyone else?

OP posts:
helpmeandmybrokenbum · 26/03/2020 22:32

@scarlettblaize 1) that involves time which most of us don't have 2) that's called being a martyr, which is silly and 3) again, not everyone has money to do that. Thanks for the detail, though. You sound like Joan of Arcadia herself.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/03/2020 22:34

If it made 1 nhs worker feel more valued, it was worth it

If it made 1Isolated person feel less alone, it was worth it

You didn’t clap- no judgement
But the nasty sneering at a good hearted gesture is unnecessary!

helgahelga · 26/03/2020 22:34

Awwww, how cute is this???

Charlotte, George, and Louis are joining in with the celebration of the NHS too.

Amazing. Most of the people in my upper middle class area were doing it. Smile It was wonderful to hear and see. Smile

ThinkPinkStink · 26/03/2020 22:36

SW12 were out in force, well done SW12!

It gave me a good opportunity to shed a tiny tear, I think I've been holding back tears for about three weeks now.

MadamePewter · 26/03/2020 22:36

@WorraLiberty 😂

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:36

@helpmeandmybrokenbum you asked me specifically what I had done to help so I answered you. And now you're insulting me for answering your question. Do you think that's reasonable?

What would you have preferred me to say in answer to your question?

And no, it's not 'being a martyr' to observe the rules about self isolation for the sake of not infecting other people.

I personally found the snickers photo and comment very funny

ScarlettBlaize · 26/03/2020 22:41

@Dylaninthemovies1

I'm very sorry to hear that.

Youwonjane · 26/03/2020 22:54

@Allaboardthemagicbus2020 I’ll get my le Crueset pots and pans out next time to keep the side up.

(P.S I’m not posh really Smile)

Stuckforthefourthtime · 26/03/2020 23:12

It's lovely it was done, but all the self-congratulatory posting about it is cringe worthy. It's fishing for compliments for caring, not doing, like the people endlessly 'raising awareness' about one issue or another on social media, but never actually doing much about it.

I clapped and meant it, but was also unimpressed at seeing happy whooping on the street from the same people who wear masks every time they go out, while my family head off to NHS jobs without PPE, and so many posters on local FB groups patting each other on the back for their community spirit, while our local food banks remain under-stocked and underfunded....

TimeToGetMeBack · 26/03/2020 23:12

It was extremely emotional going to clap and hearing all the claps and cheers round here

Mrsfrumble · 26/03/2020 23:30

It’s fine if people thought it was silly, or didn’t want to take part. I admit to being a skeptic beforehand. But when I heard it happening I rushed to my front door and the sound and the sight of everyone standing in their doorways and leaning out of their windows brought a lump to my throat. So much fear and anxiety is making everyone treat each other with suspicion and judgment, and it was nice to be reminded that we’re a community, not just walking biohazards who stand too close to each other in Costcutter. Most of my NHS worker friends have said they were touched by the gesture and felt supported, but I appreciate not all will feel that way.

Quarantimespringclean · 27/03/2020 09:08

A friend of mine who is officially retired still does 2 days a week as a an oncology nurse and has been doing 5 shifts a week since this started. She went into work yesterday and was told her normally specialist place of work will now be accepting CV patients and as she has a controlled but serious underlying condition that makes her high risk she can’t work until this is all over. She knows this is the right decision but is also gutted. She’s been a nurse for nearly 50 years and given her age this is probably the end of her working life. For a career as long and dedicated as hers to end at a moments notice like that has hit her very hard. She found the whole clap for the NHS thing very moving, it was like a thank you for a lifetimes work. I had my doubts about participating because it seemed cringy but I’m so glad I did it.

GinUnicorn · 27/03/2020 09:12

YABU not to title this thread “who’s got the clap”

Was lovely to hear. Sadly I missed out as dealing with a massive tantrum from a sleep refusing toddler but heard it.

Lovely to appreciate everyone right now.

ednclouda · 27/03/2020 13:47

yes we were out in ng19 it was very moving

helgahelga · 27/03/2020 15:45

I wonder if it's going to happen again tonight? Or is it a once or twice weekly thing???

Several health workers (a GP, a practice nurse, and an A & E nurse,) who live in my village, saw me today when they were walking past (separately,) and said they were reduced to tears by it last night.

Wonderful it was....... WONDERFUL. Smile I am so pleased and proud to have been part of it.

keeprocking · 27/03/2020 19:06

I'd not heard about it, thought the headline referred to another disease!
