Anyone else finding themselves watching TV - like a drama or something and wondering why the people aren't two metres apart and have they washed their hands thoroughly? Not to mention walking in crowds!

OP posts:
blackswan88 · 26/03/2020 23:10

Yes. Doing a kids exercise dance with my 5 year old and all the kids were so close together! Then watch Little Rascals...it's like a different world Sad

blackswan88 · 26/03/2020 23:11

Should mention it was on YouTube!

RJnomore1 · 26/03/2020 23:12

@Devlesko it’s quite terrifying isn’t it?

Warmhandscoldheart · 26/03/2020 23:12

I was watching War of the Worlds thinking if the Martians landed tomorrow, they would be annillated within hours of arriving.

Legoandloldolls · 26/03/2020 23:13

Yes I want to shout at the TV everytime anyone shakes hands and dont get me started about all the issues on masterchef.

I think it will impossible to ever go back to that now

chomalungma · 26/03/2020 23:16

How much exercise is a Martian allowed to do per day?

IsolatedIzzy · 26/03/2020 23:19

I posted a thread about this last week & got no replies! 🤣
I was reading to try & distract myself & then noticed the mindshift!
'She headed to the tube station' - nooooooo
She pushed her way through the crowded pub - nooooo
It's amazing how quickly your brain starts to reappraise things!

Mother87 · 26/03/2020 23:21

Like being shocked at everyone smoking in old filmsShock

Bouledeneige · 26/03/2020 23:21

Yes I'm finding it all the time. Yesterday listening to the Archers, most dramas and adverts on TV, Live at the Apollo. People in pubs, having meals, at parties, at work, in a theatre. All jarring.

Stripeyfrog · 26/03/2020 23:22

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got stressed out watching bake off!! (DHs pet hate is the KFC ad where everyone is licking their fingers)

EraOfTheGrey · 26/03/2020 23:28

I was watching Prime Ministers question time yesterday. Well, it could have been the day before because all the days are blending. Jeremy Corbyn coughed into his hand while doing his normal ranting. There was no tissue and no hand washing or sanitising. Aren't we all meant to cough into a tissue and bin it?
Obviously I spotted it and ranted about it for ages, had little else to do.

Cindie943811A · 26/03/2020 23:30

Yes it seems strange in the Archers when characters are obsessing over everyday worries and no mention of the virus or the vulnerability of the numerous elderly people. Reckon when it hits Ambridge the population will be decimated.
Watching the Man in the High Castle atm and cant get over how virtually everybody smokes and smokes just anywhere inside.

HubrisPolice · 26/03/2020 23:36

YES! Found myself wincing at the re-run of This Life. A party?! Altogether in the same room?! Shock

Mind you, this is to exactly how I've felt for years reading MN. Grin

Housebound, debilitated and alone is my norm, so for me the whole of MN is like, "Holidays? Walking the dog? Dating? Cooking a big dinner? Office politics? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

It's a toughie, because reading about other people's normal lives reinforces that I'm the alien, and fosters jealousy. But I come on MN because not interacting with people is worse.

And now, you all have my life.Confused

It's very, very weird. I would never in a million years have wished this on anyone, yet hearing other people sharing the experience makes me feel less alone. I am very unimpressed with my subconscious for feeling like this...

Ilovemypantry · 26/03/2020 23:36

@yummychocolate

Are you sure about that though?🤔

PerkingFaintly · 26/03/2020 23:38

chomalunga: How much exercise is a Martian allowed to do per day?

Grin
MiddlesexGirl · 26/03/2020 23:39

Yep. All the time. Thinking - you're so lucky, you can do this or that. Despite their situation being horrendous in some other way.

TheJoyofBeingSingle · 26/03/2020 23:40

I thought that when watching the NHS clappers on the news. Lots were in London I think in those type of houses that have a v. short front garden with a wall and a gate where the gates are in pairs next to each other.

Lots of shots of two families nextdoor to each other clapping a way but not even 50cm apart.

PerkingFaintly · 26/03/2020 23:40

Yy to the smoking in old films, too, and seatbelts.

I got well judgy re-watching Beaches recently.

Ilovemypantry · 26/03/2020 23:41

It’s strange how quickly things become normalised and your brain is retrained to think differently. I keep watching things on tv and thinking “they shouldn’t be doing that” and then realise it was filmed before Coronavirus.

Geepipe · 26/03/2020 23:44

I was watching a period drama last night and the street gets scarlet fever and no one obeys the stay indoors or anything! We are suposed to hate the nasty health insoector who shouts at them as well but i bloody found myself agreeing with him Grin

SkiingIsHeaven · 26/03/2020 23:44

The sign language people are also too close to whoever is standing next to Nicola Sturgeon.

It makes my skin crawl.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/03/2020 23:56

Yep, I've been like this for weeks and with programmes made years ago, every time I see them with their hands on a door handle or kissing a stranger. It's not good.

Reversiblesequinsforadults · 26/03/2020 23:59

Yes, and films with parties! Oh no!

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 27/03/2020 00:08

I feel like this is how it must be if you have OCD- checking for germs all the time. Washing clothes that don't need it, scared to meet friends, anti- bac wiping of shopping, leaving shoes outside, constant washing of hands then washing again, wiping every surface, opening mail with gloves, going shopping wearing gloves! Quite frankly, scared to go out- never felt like this before!
Normally, my house is a mess, my kids are healthy and I don't care about germs!

OrchidJewel · 27/03/2020 00:14

I even found myself social distancing driving in my car today Hmm massive distance.

My pal said she actually backed out of the room when her dh walked in

Some elderly man stuck himself to a wall and started too shrink down it in lidl earlier as I was going in

I too am tut tutinng at tv liol
