Have we been brainwashed already?

Anyone else finding themselves watching TV - like a drama or something and wondering why the people aren't two metres apart and have they washed their hands thoroughly? Not to mention walking in crowds!

OP posts:
helgahelga · 27/03/2020 19:18

No I don't think anything of it at all, (When I see people on pre-recorded shit standing close or hugging or kissing,) as I KNOW the programmes are pre-recorded. Confused Surely people know much of what you see on TV was recorded MONTHS ago?

ITV gave some blurb before Corrie last night to remind people it was recorded before the 'coronavirus rules' set in.

Unbelievable that they had to say this. Confused

EmeraldShamrock · 27/03/2020 20:34

Surely people know much of what you see on TV was recorded MONTHS ago? Well I'm sure we do, it is noticing these germ spread act in awe of how easy shit can spread, in light of the virus.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2020 21:03

OMG! Is it really? Bloody hell, I had no idea! I thought it was all done live...

FFS 🙄

PegLegAntoine · 27/03/2020 21:03

🤣 yes
It’s that we are assigning the rules to everything because it’s in our heads now, not that we think they are actually spreading the virus on telly

Frankiecandle · 27/03/2020 21:50

It's not real?

annamie · 27/03/2020 22:03

Er, no. And I've had coronavirus.

annamie · 27/03/2020 22:04

OMG! Is it really? Bloody hell, I had no idea! I thought it was all done live...

Why the snark? Confused

FlabberMcBlasted · 27/03/2020 22:08

Yes me. All the time! Didn’t take me long to turn stark raving mad.

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/03/2020 22:10

It’s not that people don’t know the programs are pre recorded it’s that there has been such a change in social expectations that normal life of even a month ago looks odd.

It’s like when you watch something from a few years ago and people are smoking in pubs.

speakfriendandenter · 27/03/2020 22:14

I get confused reading a book this week, wondering how a family we're having a big wedding and how people were leaving the house willy nilly. So odd!

SoupDragon · 27/03/2020 22:17

Why the snark?

Don't know - you'll have to ask the person who kindly pointed out it was all recorded MONTHS ago. 🙄

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 27/03/2020 22:18

I'm genuinely scared of becoming agoraphobic at the end of this. I haven't been outside for about ten days now and I stood at the front door last night for the clapping and felt genuinely afraid. It was horrible and I'm really worried about how I will feel in ten or more weeks time when they tell me I can go out.

How did I get so accustomed to staying indoors in just two weeks?

annamie · 27/03/2020 22:48

Don't know - you'll have to ask the person who kindly pointed out it was all recorded MONTHS ago. 🙄

Don't think that's particularly snarky. Not everyone knows how far in advance some programmes are recorded.

itsgettingweird · 27/03/2020 22:53

People do realise they are recorded in advance.

That's the point 🤦‍♀️

We have all realised that in just 2 long short weeks that our own minds have adjusted that everyday normal shit looks weird to watch.

ocarinan · 27/03/2020 22:58

I was listening to a podcast recently and at one point it was mentioned that someone had just adjusted the mike for someone else. My first thought was 'bloody hell, why are you even in the same room?' before I remembered that episode was recorded months ago.

SoupDragon · 28/03/2020 08:36

Don't think that's particularly snarky. Not everyone knows how far in advance some programmes are recorded.

It was snarky. It's obvious that people are talking about how their mindset has changed. They've even mentioned about feeling like it whilst reading books!

TroysMammy · 28/03/2020 08:40

Yes, during advert breaks I'm saying "You can't do that anymore". "That's not open".

ChristmasFluff · 28/03/2020 08:51

What is more worrying is that we will all have similarly acclimatised to unquestioningly doing what the government tells us to, and to 'shopping' people who don't.

And we wonder why German citizens acted as they did under Hitler. Fear is so very powerful, and routine even more so.

SoupDragon · 28/03/2020 09:09

FFS. There is a huge difference between a global pandemic where staying in saves lives and a nazi megalomaniac 🙄

TedsFederationRep · 28/03/2020 09:32

Godwin's Law. Wondered how long it would take.🙄

The reason why we are all accepting these restrictions - well, most of us anyway - is because (a) we care enough about our community to want to not spread this virus so quickly and so widely that the NHS breaks down trying to deal with it; and (b) we know it's temporary.

That's why nearly 750k people have volunteered to help support the NHS and why so many more are doing volunteer work now, delivering groceries and prescriptions to their neighbours.

Anyone who sees a comparison really needs to get a grip.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 28/03/2020 10:03

I get this doing homeschooling.
All the reading books seem to be about kids going on trips to the beach or the park.
Maths worksheets where you have to count the kids on a climbing frame.
It makes me feel increadibly sad that my kids can only read about these things in books.

CircleofWillis · 28/03/2020 11:08

I just had this very thought about a Foxy Bingo ad where over 20 people are crammed into a room playing bingo when a massive pizza delivery arrives and the fox character hands around the boxes. They are all crammed up against each other, chatting eating and BREATHING. I honestly had the thought that the advert was really irresponsible and should be banned.

TheJoyofBeingSingle · 30/03/2020 00:53

It's weird how loads of the radio and tv adverts are no longer relevant.
Centre parks/holidays
Restaurants and eating chains

Yeah it was like recently when MN was trialing that random advert/post thing. I was getting a posted advert for Hoseasons holidays in the middle of the most inappropriate threads.

Like the first post would be something like 'my gran has been taken to hospital I think she might die' or 'I work in the NHS and I can tell you how bad it is' and the next post would be MN advert post for Hoseasons.

For the rest of my life I will associate Hoseasons with (a) coronavirus and (b) seriously misplaced advertising. And I bet it's not their fault but that's life I suppose.

InconvenientPeg · 30/03/2020 01:35

It's not really brain washing, I think it's more about adaptability. You adapt fast, you survive.

Those who don't adapt will be more likely to catch the virus.

We don't often, in our modern, insulated lives come up against extreme, ongoing situations where we have to adapt our behaviour quickly. The dissonance is crazy though. TV just seems so odd 😆

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/03/2020 07:20

I found myself worrying about social distancing in a dream last night!
