AIBU to think that after the PM's speech tonight which could not be more clear in its meaning and instruction, that if this does not keep people at home then I despair for the country and it's future.

It wasn't clear about going to work - does that mean if you've got a business on your own you can go in?

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 23/03/2020 20:47

I suspect it won’t be long before the army is out- the police don’t have enough resources as it is.

PumpkinPie2016 · 23/03/2020 20:48

I thought it was clear.

I am just relieved that funerals are still allowed as my Nana passed away today Sad not from coronavirus though. Our undertaker explained that the crematorium would allow 10 people so although it will be smallet than it might have been at least the immediate family will be there.

I just hope people listen now.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/03/2020 20:49

@BBCONEANDTWO no non essential business is allowed to be open

shinyredbus · 23/03/2020 20:49

Was clear to me. Only business critical workers to go in. Everyone else needs to stay home.

Frozenfan2019 · 23/03/2020 20:49

It also wasn't clear about split parents. Can a child leave one parent's home to go to. another or does the parent who currently has the child have to look after them for the next 3 weeks and the other parent not see them for 3 weeks?

NoodleNooNoo · 23/03/2020 20:51

What about kids whose parents are separated. Can the kids move between the two homes? I have 3 step children. They are currently with their mum and step dad. Can they come to us still?

StandUpStraight · 23/03/2020 20:51

So sorry for your loss, pumpkinpie. That’s a lot to deal with at once.

I thought it was very clear. But already there are posters on other threads saying it was not clear and can they still get takeaway etc.

NoodleNooNoo · 23/03/2020 20:51

Frozen you beat me to it!

user1473878824 · 23/03/2020 20:53

I assume no, you aren’t allowed to to meet with family members who do not live in your home. Very upsetting as this is our weekend with my stepson. But better than risking it and I’m going to suggest Skype pub quiz type things so that we can still vaguely spend time with him.

StandUpStraight · 23/03/2020 20:53

I think it is by household group, noodle and frozenfan. I think he was careful to talk about families living in the same house being allowed to gather, rather than families per se. I appreciate that makes it very tough on split families.

JiggerJagger · 23/03/2020 20:53

Can you still take pets to the vet? Medical need says for people

ConkerGame · 23/03/2020 20:53

It was very clear. Don’t leave your house unless you absolutely have to (to get food, to do a critical job, to exercise once a day)

Redglitter · 23/03/2020 20:54

It wasn't clear about going to work

It was. Travel to essential work places only.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 23/03/2020 20:55

Non essential retail stores closed, not non essential businesses. I expect there will still be a lot of offices open, particularly the ones that have been stubborn about not letting staff WFH.

schoolcook · 23/03/2020 20:55

So will the schools still provide childcare for key workers children ?

StandUpStraight · 23/03/2020 20:55

He also said non essential premises.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 23/03/2020 20:56

I think it was very clear but I really wish he’d used the word “lockdown” because already there are the hard of thinking all over Facebook saying “it’s not a lockdown though” Hmm some people really do need every word spelled out to them.

Thedogscollar · 23/03/2020 20:56

bbconeandtwo Re work I would have thought unless you were a key worker no you can't go in. I know it's horrendous but the sooner we all comply with what is being asked then the spread of it slows down and the NHS are in a better place to cope with it all.

It may plateau, then as people start to go out and mingle again we may get a spike, but if we all keep going out and about like people were over the weekend then the NHS will be overwhelmed and we will all be up Shit creek without any paddles.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 23/03/2020 20:57

Will the mail still be delivered?

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 23/03/2020 20:58

Shit ! Nobody worried ?

Redyoyo · 23/03/2020 20:58

We are lucky to have Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland who has come on and explained the situation more fully.
I've never been her biggest fan but she really has shown her worth in the past week or so.

Walkerbean16 · 23/03/2020 20:58

It wasn't clear about work.

My husband owns a building company, his customer's house is open to the elements with the back wall down ready for an extension, can he finish it? Secure it up?

BBCONEANDTWO · 23/03/2020 20:58

@DarklyDreamingDexter that's what I was wondering - e.g. solicitor's offices, accountants they aren't retail stores.

Also what about plumbers if you have an emergency

TeaAndDarkToast · 23/03/2020 20:58

I have a library book out will I be fined?
