AIBU to think that after the PM's speech tonight which could not be more clear in its meaning and instruction, that if this does not keep people at home then I despair for the country and it's future.

@Curlyshabtree Just go and get him. You would be very unlucky to get pulled over by the police tbh and no one is going to begrudge you seeing your dying father

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/03/2020 21:12

Yes, a librarian will be on duty at all times at every library across the land to ensure that books are returned in a timely manner. No exceptions.

I jest Confused

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 23/03/2020 21:12

He was very clear re families and has to be members of the household. Plenty of ways to communicate in split families without breaking the rules and endangering others.

WitsEnding · 23/03/2020 21:12

How much exercise are you allowed? I am used to a minimum 2 hour walk on my own, would that be reasonable? I meet the distancing requirements easily.

Endoflifeasweknowit · 23/03/2020 21:13

Stupid question but our car is due for mot on Friday, I assume that's now cancelled? If it is our mot is overdue and I won't be able to use the car to go to the supermarket 😩

LochJessMonster · 23/03/2020 21:14

@WitsEnding Also my thoughts. I have a VERY high energy dog that is use to 2 x 2hour walks a day. Can I go for a 3 hour walk with him?

The fine will probably be less than the damage he will cause to the house on one limited walk a day anyway.

PennyNotSoWise · 23/03/2020 21:14

We are 200 miles away. He’s due to be discharged from hospital tomorrow, will my mum be allowed to go and get him?

He said you're allowed to leave if it's to provide care or help a vulnerable person, so I'd say yes.

LochJessMonster · 23/03/2020 21:17

@Endoflifeasweknowit The government have already suspended MOT tests for HGVs for 3 months so hoping they do the same for cars

Read this

TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 21:20

"assume no, you aren’t allowed to to meet with family members who do not live in your home."
No he said you can go out with your family members and 2 others.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/03/2020 21:20

Shit it wouldnt post I'll try again

PutColinInTheCorner · 23/03/2020 21:21

None of us can answer all these questions with any certainty. And to be fair, the broadcast tonight wasn't the time to go into the detail of individual circumstances. I'm sure the guidance will be up on the .gov website later.

TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 21:21

"How much exercise are you allowed? I am used to a minimum 2 hour walk on my own, would that be reasonable? I meet the distancing requirements easily."
He only said once a day.. not how long that once a day is for

DarklyDreamingDexter · 23/03/2020 21:23

So unclear about work. What about the journalists, presenters and TV crew presenting the news or running the TV channels? Are they considered essential? My partner works in telecommunications and people will be pretty upset if they can’t call their loved ones or use the WiFi or watch Netflix if the phone/broadband lines go down. Are they essential workers? What about council workers, social workers, refuse collectors, postal workers. People who work in our utilities. Too many jobs many to list. Unless there is clarity on this, hundreds of thousands of people will still be going to work this week.

TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 21:23

He said you can be in a gathering of your household that you live with and 2 others

I don't see why not, that's what i'll be doing - I always go out of my way to avoid people anyway! Grin Can't see any difference between that and isolating at home (tho no doubt some busy-body will be along to tell me different any minute..)

Endoflifeasweknowit · 23/03/2020 21:24

@TabbyMumz I don't think you've got that quite right 🤔 I'm sure he said your own household and that gatherings of more than 2 (unless all the same household) would be split up

SkaLaLand · 23/03/2020 21:25

I feel sick and I have already done a frightened poo.

I don't know if I'm going into work tomorrow I technically fall under 'key worker' I can't work from home but it isn't actually essential I go into work (except for the business) as work have made provision for the 'essential' part of my role so I will have to wait and see what they happens tomorrow. Husband has been sent home from his evening shift.

Thankfully we can still take the kids out for exercise on their bikes around the local football field,. Confining them to the garden (though totally doable) would be additional stress I don't need right now.

Worried about getting to my grandad regularly (he lives 20minutes away) to make sure he has food.

I have never been stopped by/had any involvement with the the police! What do I do if they challenge me on my way to my Grandads?

Crafting1Queen · 23/03/2020 21:26

Oh, ffs, if after that broadcast people are still confused, or can't understand that things have to change immediately, and in the first instance for the short term, and make these adjustments, or make do temporarily until further updates, then we really are fucked!

Campervan69 · 23/03/2020 21:28

Yes we are because he's not closed down any non essential business. That's not what happened. All offices will still be open and people will be forced to go into work against their will because of the greed of their bosses. My job could be done from home but my boss will not allow it.

Doggyperson · 23/03/2020 21:31

It's alright saying don't leave your home unless absolutely necessary but how will they enforce this? I could go out for a drive and say I'm off to work, no way to prove differently.
In Spain you were only allowed out in twos, only one per car and they stopped you to ask where you were going. If you went for a walk you were stopped and again, asked where you were going.

I'm a self employed cleaner and already two of my clients are saying, I'd really appreciate it if you'd come in. Bloody hell, it's not getting through to some is it!

RitaConnors · 23/03/2020 21:31

It's not your household and two others because you can't meet anyone who isn't in your household. 'If a friend asks you to meet up, you should say no'.

sulkyswede · 23/03/2020 21:32

No he said you can go out with your family members and 2 others.

The BBC are saying they have to be family members who you live with not just family members.

A lot of people will be starting to realise what life is like for the lonely. I have no friends who I can phone for a chat and never see anybody socially, the last time I went to a social gathering was over 5 years ago.

Fruitbatdancer · 23/03/2020 21:32

I’m in the middle of a complete new kitchen build 😫 it’s bloody caos. 😭😭😭
