AIBU to think that after the PM's speech tonight which could not be more clear in its meaning and instruction, that if this does not keep people at home then I despair for the country and it's future.

I'd really like to know about solicitors' offices and banks

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 23/03/2020 20:59

I get they have people rope and they were stupid, but at what bloody cost!?

missyB1 · 23/03/2020 20:59

Yes schools will still have the keyworkers kids. I’m working in school tomorrow. Keyworkers are essential to the Country continuing to function. So I will drive to school (taking our ds with me), and Dh will cycle to the hospital where he works.

Dessicator · 23/03/2020 20:59

Surely electricians plumbers and gas engineers will be needed

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 23/03/2020 21:00

Shit ! Nobody worried ?

About what?

MedSchoolRat · 23/03/2020 21:00

What is "essential work" and how do you know if you're allowed to go to it?

My job is part of planning for covid19 response and I don't have the equipment at home to do my job. Am I allowed to go get it tomorrow, or do I need to drive to the office to collect it tonite?

Fuck I realise you guys don't know But neither do I. It's an hour's drive each way.

Campervan69 · 23/03/2020 21:00

I work in a solicitor's office and they are being completely unhelpful not allowing us to work from home even though we have children off and need to do so. I wish he'd been more clear about forcing them to allow people to work from home as it is perfectly doable.

cassgate · 23/03/2020 21:00

I am a TA and on rota to go in tomorrow. We didn’t have many children in today and think parents will keep kids off now anyway.

Useruseruserusee · 23/03/2020 21:01

@TeaAndDarkToast
My library closed last week - they said all fines are waived. I’m sure yours will be the same.

OlaEliza · 23/03/2020 21:01

In Spain:
Construction workers are still working
Children can go between split homes

TeaAndDarkToast · 23/03/2020 21:01

The plumber was meant to come back and repair leaking taps etc. I can't do this myself now can I?

I am feeling safer re the lockdown but if only I'd got some tap washers in! And returned that piggin library book.

wheres that gin and tonic? Grin

Thedogscollar · 23/03/2020 21:02

*juansheetisplenty Too true. Some people have to be led by the nose.

Not clear on repatriation of foreign nationals/closures of airports etc. Not clear on a lot of things but I’m sure all the information will be put together tonight.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 23/03/2020 21:02

Who will accept what ? For the greater good. These are tricky times. But do not , please just accept it all , for the greater good. Let's please understand and question. Groups being " dispursed" this week , next week ... What ?

TeaAndDarkToast · 23/03/2020 21:03

@Useruseruserusee Thank you! I can only renew online so many times Grin

Barkingfuckingdogs · 23/03/2020 21:03

A bloody library book? Are u serious???? Libraries are now shut anyway.

Idontbelieveit12 · 23/03/2020 21:03

Definitely wasn’t clear about work. My husband works for a manufacturing company that is non-essential. Until the company tells him they are closing he will have to go or not get paid?

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 23/03/2020 21:04

And I am not an alarmist , at all.

IndecentFeminist · 23/03/2020 21:05

I interpreted it as you could go to work if you couldn't do it from home.

Llyn · 23/03/2020 21:06

There was some advice on the Cafcass website today about what to do re separated parents. Just tried to find it so I could link here though and the website’s not working. Maybe everyone with a Child Arrangements Order looking it up at once?!

Curlyshabtree · 23/03/2020 21:07

My dad is at the end of his life and is desperate to see us. We are 200 miles away. He’s due to be discharged from hospital tomorrow, will my mum be allowed to go and get him?

Xenia · 23/03/2020 21:09

It expressly said you could go to work as far as I remember.

You can go out once a day for a tun, cycle or walk (with family members or alone - but not with friends).

You can go out to a food shop (which is just as well as grocery delivery websites seem not to be operational in any meaningful sense) and to a pharmacy.

You can go out if you care for someone such as a parent.

You can go out for medical appointments.

You should not have friends over other than people with whom you live.

sulkyswede · 23/03/2020 21:09

You can't be outside with anybody other than one other person unless you live with them. So a NRP would be able to collect their child to take to their house but the NRP and partner/other children wouldn't be able to be there as well. In the house there wouldn't be any restrictions I expect.

I need to know if pet shops are going to stay open with skeleton staff to sell pet food that isn't available in the supermarkets - rabbit and guinea pig food isn't available in supermarkets for example. Hopefully they will move stocks of food to the front of the store and sell it from there with the rest of the store being closed off.

Livelovebehappy · 23/03/2020 21:10

I work in a bank and have been told I’m still working.

Pedallleur · 23/03/2020 21:11

Didn't say anything about plumbers etc. They are sole traders, not a business you go into e.g. Argos or Works. Food and petrol is available, deliveries are going ahead. It's about distancing and not partying. Might mean food shops have a security policy over how many in at a time. Bit inconvenient but that's how it is. Walk to the shop, there is your exercise.
