AIBU? "Dinner will be ready between ... "

Me and DS are staying at my parents house while we have some work done to our house. DP is staying at home to oversee the work. Houses are 10 mins apart. I was making curry for dinner tonight at my parents and DP was coming. He asked this afternoon what time was dinner at. I said "between 5 and 5.30pm ... 5.30pm at the latest as my mum needs to leave at 7pm to be somewhere". Dinner was ready at 5.15pm. DP showed up at 5.25pm.

Was I being unreasonable expecting him to be here for 5pm?

YABU

Moo31 · 07/03/2020 23:11

Lighthearted of course! Just hoping to settle the "who was in the wrong" argument with the voting!

YABU

cushioncovers · 07/03/2020 23:12

Yabu he wasn't late he had 5 mins to spare.

munzero · 07/03/2020 23:12

YABU. Next time just tell him a time to be there for.

BIWI · 07/03/2020 23:13

FFS - of course you are being unreasonable! If you wanted him there for a specific time, you tell him that. As it was, you gave him a window, and he was there within that window. Are you always this petty?

22Giraffes · 07/03/2020 23:13

YABU, he came home in the time frame you specified. Give him a break!

OhCaptain · 07/03/2020 23:14

If you wanted him there at 5, why didn’t you say 5?! Confused

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 07/03/2020 23:14
  1. 25 is between those times. I would have got there at 5. 15 as a middle time.
IHaveBrilloHair · 07/03/2020 23:16

He arrived in the timeframe you gave him, YABU.

Moo31 · 07/03/2020 23:19

Oh dear it looks like I was being unreasonable!

@BIWI no not always. Sometimes but not always.

I cant see the voting. I'd be annoyed too as clearly dinner could have been served at 5 and you'd all have been waiting for him or have eaten without him but then my husband always says I need to be more specific and say what I want, not just assume he will know... did you ask if he wanted his dinner spoon feeding as well? Grin

DesLynamsMoustache · 07/03/2020 23:21

I don't think you were BU really as surely if you know something can happen any time in a certain window, you are there for the start of said window? I would have assumed that meant to be there for five because it could be served any time from then till 5.30.

CareBear50 · 07/03/2020 23:21

OP yabvu

Notso · 07/03/2020 23:22

YABVU
PIL without fail give times like this and then get the hump if you don't arrive at the earliest time. If you want people there for 5 then say come for 5.

Newkitchen123 · 07/03/2020 23:23

This is why we have microwaves

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 07/03/2020 23:24

He got there within the timeframe, not even in the dying seconds.

This reminds me of my first date. My mother told me to be home by 10, I got home at 9:50 and she laid into me. Even my father, who rarely stood up to her, told her that if she meant 9 she should have said 9. And she subsequently got the right hump if I clarified what she meant by the time when I went on further nights out.

Moo31 · 07/03/2020 23:30

Thank you @Rosebyanothername19 Grin
And @DesLynamsMoustache
We both agree that I will be more specific in future!

Perhaps relevant (or maybe not) is that dinner at my parents is always ready for 5pm. He had assumed 5pm but I said "between ..." as it was a curry I hadn't made before and wasn't sure how long it would take. With hindsight I should have just said yes when he said 5pm!

I think YABU. But I would've been a bit miffed too!

Fantasiaa · 07/03/2020 23:33

How is this even a question !!?

Rosebyanothername19 · 07/03/2020 23:36

For everyone saying that OP is being unreasonable, he asked what time dinner was going to be, not what time to arrive. They are different things. If you know something is going to be happening in a time frame but not sure of exactly when, surely you get there for the earliest time or there is a chance you will miss it??

Hopoindown31 · 07/03/2020 23:38

You said 5.30 at the latest and he was there for that time. YABU.

SeriouslyRetro · 07/03/2020 23:40

It’s a curry so it will still be perfectly good for a fair bit of time afterwards, not like an egg and chips sort of meal.

Hopoindown31 · 07/03/2020 23:40

If you know something is going to be happening in a time frame but not sure of exactly when, surely you get there for the earliest time or there is a chance you will miss it?

Depends if you can make it for that time, or if something comes up. Sure, it is nice to arrive in plenty of time but not always possible.

Samtsirch · 07/03/2020 23:41

Blimey I’m surprised you are still with the unreasonable pathetic excuse for a human being, especially since it was a curry.
I don’t know how you cope with such disrespectful behaviour, your suffering is surely more than any one on earth could be expected to endure
🤣😂🤣
