Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

Never mind basket bag you must be a basket case if you think that monstrosity is worth 325 quid!

Ginfilledcats · 04/03/2020 14:13

Agree it looks cheap. So what if there's a story? I can honestly say I've never asked or been asked "ooh so what's the story behind this bag then?"

Also, hate the huge logo on the front, height of tackiness to me sorry.

I agree with pp, joules/accessorise/to max have a far better selection far more reasonably priced.

However if you like it and can afford it, why would you let randoms on the web stop you? You do you!

Geoffreythecat · 04/03/2020 14:14

Just about every market in France sells bags that are as nice or nicer than that one. Why dont you have a long weekend there and buy a bag from the market - you'd be able to pay for the holiday and the bag for about the same amount?

Mintychoc1 · 04/03/2020 14:14

I think the likely story behind it is that it's made by hand in a factory somewhere, by some under-paid worker who makes identical ones all day every day, and that someone else is getting extremely rich on a profit margin of about 500%.

This one made me slightly weep. The bigger one is out of stock...it was more than £1000 more....

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/03/2020 14:15

It IS frumpy. And I do love bags.
But it is definitely 'gran down the market' type bag and when the bits unravel it will drive you insane. And they always know...no matter how careful, they just pop out or catch and snag

DillyDilly · 04/03/2020 14:18

If I remember correctly a lot of mid level influencers were gifted last year’s version of that bag. It certainly put me off buying one.

dottiedodah · 04/03/2020 14:21

I like it but think its a little on the pricey side! If you can afford it why not? (Makes me feel a bit better re a straw shoulder bag( Monsoon) about 40 odd quid !(cant remember exact price )

bubblesforlife · 04/03/2020 14:21

It does not look like a bag worth over £300 if i'm honest. It's more like a beach bag.

Dorsetdays · 04/03/2020 14:21

OP, if you can afford it then go for it. You’ve had your eye on it for a good few months so it’s obviously not lost it’s appeal for you.

I like Rae Feather too for beach type bags but if the Loewe bag is the one you have your heart set on then no others will compare!

Treat yourself 🛍

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 04/03/2020 14:22

You're off your head, OP! You too, damnthatanxiety!

Branster · 04/03/2020 14:23

Put the money towards a holiday in Provence and you can buy any basket bag you want there, hand made, any colour and finish you want, crafted with a story to tell. As much as I appreciate certain designer artistry, this one is not worth’s the money. The grass does wear off after a while and there’s no proper closure or zip. Great for picking up apples or potatoes but not practical as a bag.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/03/2020 14:25

I have to say that I find most expensive bags really frumpy for want of a better word. I have the budget but seriously that leather weave one is horrible!

Noflora · 04/03/2020 14:25

www.injabulo.com/product-category/african-shopping-baskets/ I really like the baskets on this website, I bought a bicycle one that works beautifully. Fairtrade, mostly made by women.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/03/2020 14:26

'I bought this while on holiday in the south of France' is certainly a nicer story than 'I got it online and am embarrassed to tell you how much I paid for it'.

Trethew · 04/03/2020 14:27

Obscenely bad value

Yarisalpaca · 04/03/2020 14:28

BUT, Straw?? It's made of Palm leaves!

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 04/03/2020 14:29

Now, those are lovely, Noflora. In a way, I wish I hadn't looked! Wink

Saladmakesmesad · 04/03/2020 14:31

Oh my days, £325 for dried up bits of grass/leaves. I don't get it, but then I'm wearing joggers today so don't take my advice.

ViserionTheDragon · 04/03/2020 14:31

OP, just responding to your comment and there being a 'story' behind the bag and that everyone wearing the Primark ones.

Have you been on social media lately? All the influencers were pushing this bag last spring/summer and they are starting to do so again this year. It's actually quite ubiquitous.

While it is a nice bag, it's not worth the price tag. I would get a good quality high street version instead. It is just an it bag at the moment and trends will move on.

JunkshopLil · 04/03/2020 14:31

The prices people will pay for a 'designer' label. Is the lining cloth of gold or something?

Shock

Just look on Ebay. They've got some absolutely gorgeous basket bags - some vintage, some 'designer' and some completely unique. And at a fraction of the cost of this. I was only looking the other day and was spoilt for choice.

Geoffreythecat · 04/03/2020 14:33

'I bought this while on holiday in the south of France' is certainly a nicer story than 'I got it online and am embarrassed to tell you how much I paid for it'.

Exactly, go for the holiday, you could probably get one in Calais but the holiday might be better in Provence

mencken · 04/03/2020 14:34

pay that if you want. It looks super-frumpy even in the advertising photos. I don't think a market-stall holder would consider stocking that!

still, keeps the starved waddling models and the fashion 'industry' in business, I suppose. And apparently business is good.

datasgingercatspot · 04/03/2020 14:34

I refuse to buy anything that's 'gifted' to influencers.
