Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

but i feel like there is a story behind this bag

Yeah, once upon a time, someone bought an ugly, expensive bag.

Your money.

abfluent · 04/03/2020 13:46

there is another one with a brown square

Even if I was a millionaire, I still wouldn't pay that much for that bag. Stupid price for what it is imo

StillMedusa · 04/03/2020 13:47

Um nope... but then I got my son a replacement ford KA for £300 that is still going strong Grin
It's all relaive to income, but I suspect if I had lots to spare I still wouldn't buy a bag that would be useless in the rain!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/03/2020 13:48

I love a bag (pay ££££ for Mulberry & Louis Vuitton) but that looks like a cheap beach bag to me. Sorry.

FatTess · 04/03/2020 13:48

It looks like a £6 primark beach bag Confused

Surely you can get something so much nicer for 325??

BarbaraofSeville · 04/03/2020 13:49

Why do you feel that there's a story behind the bag? You'll probably find that all bags like this are hand made, at all price ranges from Primark up to this bag and I wouldn't be surprised if they're all made in similar working conditions by people being similarly small amounts of money.

Maybe the quality control on the high end bags is better, maybe the leather used for the straps is a bit nicer, but I suspect that a lot of the price will be made up of the 'it's more expensive so it must be better' factor and fewer people have them because fewer people can/want to spend that much money on a bag.

A good test is it you saw a cheap one (£5 from Primark), a decent one (£30 from Oasis, Accessorize, M&S) and this expensive one with no labels, could you pick out the expensive one and think it is worth ten times the price of the mid range one?

They did similar things with clothes, accessorises and household goods like towels on Shop Well for Less and without the labels and prices, no-one could pick out the expensive items with any reliability.

RhodaCamel · 04/03/2020 13:49

Unless you are using it for the beach and putting towels and sunscreen in it then I think it’s a pick pockets dream bag, everything is on show, purse, phone, everything!

GinDrinker00 · 04/03/2020 13:50

No offence but if I saw someone on the street with one of those £325 bags, I would of thought it was cheap and tacky. Looks like it’s going to fall apart soon as it rains! Far better things to spend your money on.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 04/03/2020 13:50

How about Sophie Anderson? I have a couple from there for a similar price and great for holidays. Or Zeus & Dione?

RhodaCamel · 04/03/2020 13:50

And if it is just for the beach then go for it and count yourself lucky that you can afford to spend over £300 on a beach bag.

LesLavandes · 04/03/2020 13:51

Nope. I have 2 really beautiful Loewe handbags. They are gorgeous leather and will last me for years. I love Loewe but that basket is a waste of money

Nearlyalmost50 · 04/03/2020 13:52

Your OP did make us all click on the luxury fashion website though so we can all be spammed with hideous expensive shoes and feel smug we are not muggins enough to pay for them (free advertising, cunning!)

MinesaPinot · 04/03/2020 13:52

Nice but not worth £325! Give it a few weeks and they'll have much the same in Accessorize or Primark.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 04/03/2020 13:53

Very brave to put this on AIBU though! 😂 You might be safer on Style and Beauty.......

EverythingChanges321 · 04/03/2020 13:54

A fool and her money....

JemSynergy · 04/03/2020 13:54

Noooo even if I had money to burn I wouldn't buy it.

HollowTalk · 04/03/2020 13:54

OP, are you Theresa?

mnthrowaway202020 · 04/03/2020 13:54

I think it’s ok, but I don’t know about whether it’s worth £325. It’s a trend piece meaning that you’ll wear it this spring/summer and get bored of it by next summer as it becomes outdated. So it all depends on your expendable finances as to whether it’s worth the cost?

I think I’d rather buy a similar cheaper bag because you’ll still achieve the same overall look. And I’d go for a straw look bag instead of a basket shape as it’s more practical

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 04/03/2020 13:55

It's OK, but the straw will soon look manky. I agree with a PP re. the leather square, I think it's ugly!

I've paid a lot for a designer leather handbag (although it was on sale so less than normal) that I use all the time and is holding up really well. I think it "dresses up" any outfit because it's so stylish IMO. That's my story anyway, and I'm sticking with it. Grin

I'd recommend buying a cheaper straw tote and splashing out on a more durable bag when you see one you love.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 04/03/2020 13:55

i feel like there is a story behind this bag
you do know it's the same bag as the ones sold in Primark but with a higher mark up? Grin

I am not against £300 bags, I can't see why this one would justify a higher price. You pay for the label, not the bag, so up to you. If you can afford it, why wouldn't you.

If you hesitate about the price and are not sure, it means you can't afford it.

abfluent · 04/03/2020 13:55

@HollowTalk no, who is Theresa?

OP posts:
notacooldad · 04/03/2020 13:56

I don't know who is having the bigger laugh, you for thinking there is a story behind the bag or MyTheresa for selling it!

Eropsawlkasd23455 · 04/03/2020 13:56

My mum (in her 70s) has one of these baskets, pretty much exactly like this. She bought it at a market in the south of France.
She uses it for market shopping (food) etc .
She paid £10......

The markets abroad are flooded with these!

Hoppinggreen · 04/03/2020 13:57

If you love it, can afford it and it will make you happy then buy it!
