Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

Ignore all the"i carry everything round in a decade old 5p tesco reuseable bag"

If it delights you and you can afford it crack on.

TiddlestheCat · 04/03/2020 15:05

With name brand products you are paying for expensive marketing campaigns, costly models, the cost of the ground rent on prime retail space, expensive shop fittings and the owners Porsche. The mark up will be ridiculous. For what? Someone else's name on the bag and the feeling that you must be important in order to be able to afford it/show others that you are affluent/trendy/like a model. You can still buy some great well made high street or local items that will be classic but a 1/4 of the price.

YouForgetYourself · 04/03/2020 15:05

There are lots and lots of straw/beach bags made ethically and fair trade. A quick Google gives loads of suggestions. I quite fancy one for the summer but even an ethically made one will only cost a fraction of £325.

Sushiroller · 04/03/2020 15:07

Also agree with others its ugly not as nice as the Jacquemes bag

AmethystMoonShine · 04/03/2020 15:09

I agree with others. This was obviously a cheap bag to make as so many were sent to influencers as freebies last year.
I got tired of seeing it, most used it as a beach bag. If I was gifted it, yes I’d use it as summer holiday bag..... but because it was free and not hideous.

MrsToothyBitch · 04/03/2020 15:12

I'm not averse to an idea expensive bag but I really don't think that one is worth the money. That style especially means you'll never get your moneys worth.

WhatHappenedThen · 04/03/2020 15:13

You would think it would be lined for that price.

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2020 15:15

It's a no from me.

a. It will look mucky in no time and b. It looks no different to anything you could get in a seaside souvenir shop for a tenner but it's your money not mine so if you love it go for it.

fantasmasgoria1 · 04/03/2020 15:18

I have elaborately and well made gothic bags that cost less than £50. I agree with other posters that you can get similar from primark.

JingsMahBucket · 04/03/2020 15:18

I think I'd probably pay £100 - £125 for it, @abfluent depending on how well it's made and how long it will last me. Also, I'd use it year round, not just in the summer months.

That said, I love this gold bracelet. It's gorgeous and I want it badly now. Darn you @abfluent! www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/tohum-design-lumia-maia-22kt-gold-plated-bracelet-1438478.html?catref=category

Lynda07 · 04/03/2020 15:19

Certainly nothing special about that bag for the price.

Wowserme · 04/03/2020 15:30

The leather straps will discolour, I wouldn’t spend that out for a bag with white straps 😬

Roussette · 04/03/2020 15:30

For the price of that bag (which is not that attractive)... you could catch a flight to Spain, stay in a modest air bnb, or spanish hotel, go to one of their markets that is run weekly, buy a bag that is almost identical (Ive seen them) drink rioja, eat olives and tapas, enjoy the sun for 2 days, fly home and still have £100 change.

You'd be batshit to buy that bag.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/03/2020 15:39

I understand people not wanting to buy from Primark, but can the people telling the OP to buy the bag and that it's worth the money, please explain why it's worth ten times the price of bags that are almost identical in quality, design etc?

Unless the OP has substantial savings, eg a good few months/year or two's expenses in instant access and damn good pension arrangements, then it's not just a matter of technically being able to afford it, but the bigger picture to consider.

datasgingercatspot · 04/03/2020 15:40

It's gold-plated, Jings. Just plated. It's fucking brass, for £400?!!

abfluent · 04/03/2020 15:42

it is kind of weird to see that everyone is so on with primark which is far from ethical and i am sure they products don't last and end up at landfill. whereas when you buy something that is rather well made you will actually have it for life

This has been round for quite a few years now, and if there would have been any issues with the bags falling apart, Loewe would have taken them out of production. Instead, they've expanded this range.

I use baskets a lot, and would buy it if the leather trim was in another colour - white leather picks up a lot of staining, particularly if you wear a lot of denim. (I wear a lot of denim and know from experience that white leather bags are best avoided!) However, if it's a bag you're going to hold rather than sling over your shoulder, it will pick up less staining.

abfluent · 04/03/2020 15:42

i agree that white is not particularly good colour in terms of wear but i feel like this bag is so much better than primark lol

OP posts:
abfluent · 04/03/2020 15:44

@StellaRockafella exactly! they keep extending the range every year and tbh if we look at such brand as Loewe with really expensive products this one is a bargain

strawberry2017 · 04/03/2020 15:44

I think you could find nicer for that amount of money.

CrazyToast · 04/03/2020 15:46

£325 for any bag is insane, unless it will somehow keep you alive.

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/03/2020 15:50

It's horrible, it looks like something you would buy in Marrakesh for £1.50... but if a bag made out of dried vegetation gives you pleasure, then go for it. Life's too short not to buy the things you want, horrific or otherwise.

notacooldad · 04/03/2020 15:51

Why do you thinkthis is AIBU question?
If you are considering buying it wouldnt it be a more suited for the style and beauty pages?
Theres nothing unreasonable about it. You either like it so much you might as well go out and buy it or cant afford it.
Only you will know
So a bit pointless posting unless you are just sitting back enjoying everyone saying ' hell, no, go to Primark!'

Wiaa · 04/03/2020 15:54

If you like it and have the money spare to buy it then go for it, personally I think it's horrible and way too expensive for a straw bag but I'm not buying it.

MagnoliaJustice · 04/03/2020 15:55

If you can afford it, and want it, buy it. You don't need our permission.
