AIBU Not to fancy old men?

I'm 54 and been Online Dating (OLD) for a couple of years. But I just don't fancy the old men on there.

Most men of 54+ seem to have beer bellies and look like granddads, which they probably are. :)

The men in their 40s seem ok, so what the fuck happens to them when they hit 50?

I'm a regular at the gym, like to keep myself fit. And luckily I'm pretty healthy. I won't date anyone my son's age, (35) although get plenty of offers. A lot of young men have a thing for older women. 🙄

4 years I've been single! Will I ever fancy an old man? Yeah I know I'm old too!!

I tend to now date 44+ but my ex was 4 years older than me.

I don't know! Am I unreasonable and destined to be single forever??!!

I'm not single but have noticed that the men going to a school reunion all look older than me and my girlfriends.

Forget their age and just date who you do fancy.

Why do you want to date an older man?
You are being unreasonable to just want to date older men - enjoy the company of who you find attractive; physically and mentally.

ArntNise · 28/02/2020 21:24

_21AlCalavicci
I agree - he is hot!

Stripyhoglets1 · 28/02/2020 21:26

Rupert Graves has always been lovely though!

TheSlipperSchlepp · 28/02/2020 21:27

I think the same! I have just come off OLD. I'm a young-looking 45 and the 50+ year old men on there...well, I would have felt like I was on a date with my dad by the look of some of them!

I know for a fact some of them lie about their age on OLD....what's the point in that, especially if they're looking for a LTR?

And what's with the 'here's what I looked like 30 years ago' photos men put on there?

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 21:30

@ArntNise
Isnt he just ! did you watch him it the sherlock series ?
Benedict Cumberbatch does nothing for me , to much of a pretty boy look

WhiteBadger · 28/02/2020 21:32

Yes well if men on OLD looked like Rupert I'd be laughing but they mostly look like Homer Simpson!!

Ferntwist I've tried Tinder (my favourite) as you only match with people you like.

Bumble, it's ok but not many on it.

POF, jeez the shark pool. I go on there but don't put a picture otherwise I literally have hundreds of messages! Not brocade I'm gorgeous (I bloody wish) but I think women outnumber women sooooooo much!

I've tried them all.

ArntNise I don't particularly want to date older men but young 45 year olds may not want to date me!

So yup rebellenny I'm gonna be single forever too!

Not sure what the point of the Rupert graves post was - he's hardly typical looking for men in their 50s on the UK, is he. In fact he's better looking than the average man in every decade below as well.

He looks v young for his age a d had always had a boyishness to his good looks.

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 21:38

Just in case anyone hasnt seen this clip . . . it seems Rupert has a quick wit too . . .

GilbertMarkham · 28/02/2020 21:40

It's like a 60 something man saying he doesn't really fancy women in their 70s and someone piping up - we I fancy Helen Mitten, look at her.

Your average 70.something woman in the UK probably doesn't look.lime a Hollywood actress who's had beautiful work done to.her jaw line/neck a d had, a badabing hour glass figure, and all the advantages a v wealthy person can use lookswise.

GilbertMarkham · 28/02/2020 21:41

Yeah Mitten not mitten Grin

damnthatanxiety · 28/02/2020 21:44

You are just seeing unattractive 50+ year old men. There are plenty of hot ones.

GilbertMarkham · 28/02/2020 21:44

Oh FFS Mirren

PicsInRed · 28/02/2020 21:44

I think a lot of them are older than their disclosed age - some decades older.

BacklashStarts · 28/02/2020 21:46

Yeah, I never know why people think men age well. The average woman of any particular age is way fitter than the average guy.

ByeMF · 28/02/2020 21:46

I'm with you. In my 50s. Single. Most men in their 50s seem to be extremely boring which makes them seem old. I appreciate this may be a sweeping generalisation.

My OH is 50 (I'm 34), he keeps himself fit and gets a lot of female attention, so not all men over 50 let themselves go! I think they are few and far between though looking at his friends 🙄

Michaelbaubles · 28/02/2020 21:48

I’m 40 and most men even my age look absolutely hanging so I’m not surprised you don’t like them 20 years older..bad skin, bald shiny heads, beer bellies and no necks. Ugh. However there are a few out there so you have to sift carefully!

Fluffybutter · 28/02/2020 21:49

@damnthatanxiety where are they then ? That’s the point of the post

oohnicevase · 28/02/2020 21:50

My fil was like this , he used to say the women his age looked liked granny's 🙄. He sees himself as a bit of a cliff type .. anyways he got himself a Thai bride which doesn't really work in reverse does it 🙈.. I think you are going to have to try and re programme your brain a bit .. I'm sure there will be someone for you , it may just take a bit of time to find him.

ThePeacekeeper · 28/02/2020 21:52

I'm in my 20's but in my opinion YANBU. Let's not forget most men seem to have this 'problem' in relation to older women as well except it isn't seen as a problem because they're men!

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 21:54

@GilbertMarkham
You are right he does look young for his age that is my point , just because someone is a certain age they do not need to look like the stereo type .
