AIBU Not to fancy old men?

WhiteBadger · 28/02/2020 21:07

I'm 54 and been Online Dating (OLD) for a couple of years. But I just don't fancy the old men on there.

Most men of 54+ seem to have beer bellies and look like granddads, which they probably are. :)

The men in their 40s seem ok, so what the fuck happens to them when they hit 50?

I'm a regular at the gym, like to keep myself fit. And luckily I'm pretty healthy. I won't date anyone my son's age, (35) although get plenty of offers. A lot of young men have a thing for older women. 🙄

4 years I've been single! Will I ever fancy an old man? Yeah I know I'm old too!!

I tend to now date 44+ but my ex was 4 years older than me.

I don't know! Am I unreasonable and destined to be single forever??!!

@WhiteBadger

I think you should be OK, because most middle aged men (42-60 ish) don't fancy women your age anyway. On the OLD sites, they seem to be wanting women aged 27 to 39.

Etulosba · 01/03/2020 11:26

When I was a boy, I asked my grandad (in his 80s) what it was like to be old. He said he didn't really know because in his head, he was still 18.

I'm not quite that old but now I know exactly what he meant. I'm not shocked or depressed at the face that looks back at me in the mirror. That's what men my age are supposed to look like.

Shockers · 01/03/2020 11:51

I know exactly what he meant @Etulosba! I’m not eighty, but I’ve never felt anything other than young, other than when I was in pain.

Yabu! My dh is a 53 year old bit of hot stuff who I met online 3 years ago. He had the same feelings about women of his age as you op and set his profile for a lower age. I'm 10 years younger but you'd never know to look at us. He's slim, handsome, dresses well, great in bed....what's not to love Wink

Trumpspeach · 01/03/2020 12:50

Same: my chap is 64 (i'm 48).
He wears good clothes, keeps active and is well groomed. If I was single, however, I probably wouldn't meet a 64 year old as I think most HAVE let themselves go.

WhiteBadger · 01/03/2020 14:16

The PPs saying this is a cruel thread should read the whole thread. If an 18 year old girl doesn't fancy an 80 year old is that cruel!!!!!??

I have not said anything about baldness or height, or even looks! I don't care!!! As long as they look after themselves and are a healthy weight.

When I see 50 year old men with their huge beer gut, I can guess they will have blood pressure problems which in turn combined with their age will probably mean flacid penis!! I'm in the prime of life with a sex drive to match! Just don't want that!

As one of the PPs posted earlier, woman with kids (mostly) spend their time, working, checking teeth are brushed, planning meals, dentists appointments, school sports days, helping elderly parents and on and on and on and on.

They have not a second to spend on themselves. And if the posts on here are to believed a lot of husbands don't give the support they should. Continuing with time consuming hobbies etc.

Then ... the Golden Age!! Your periods stop, the kids have fucked off and you have TIME!!

Time that is all yours!!!!! Time to look after yourself , go to the gym, get new hobbies. Life ladies, is AMAZING!! And women over 50 go two ways, stay at home and watch the soaps. Or reassess their life and all this spare time they have not had for years.

Now men (mostly) have a different experience of parenthood, to be honest for some of them their life doesn't actually change that much.

So as they slide into middle age, they have got into this easy lifestyle being looked after by wifey. So when they get kicked into touch, these are the men that are in the dating pool. And I don't fancy them!! They are old, overweight and boring.

And forgive me, the 2 very brave male posters I obviously don't mean you!

And it also seems, that sadly most people agree.

Sigh ...

The thing is that I don't disagree with you OP. Somebody sent me a picture of a school reunion when I was about 41. The picture was full of predominantly fat, balding, grey haired men. I couldn't believe it, these were boys I was at school with just over 20 years before.

I've just decided to retire early. There is too much I want to do before I shuffle off this mortal coil and work is just getting in the way.

Fallsballs · 01/03/2020 14:46

I’m afraid Whitebadger the only guys who seem to go for me are the aul ones. The younger looking ones are with 30/40 somethings - because they can.

My town is full of the corduroy slacks and sports jacket wearing bandy legged old feckers, robust protruding bellies (wine filled) and puffy faces.
I shall enjoy my currently single status and rejoice in the knowledge I don’t have to lie next to or listen to one of them.

WhiteBadger · 01/03/2020 14:48

Fallsballs I'm sorry but I will never be able to take any of your posts seriously from now on .... every time I see you username ... I see a middle aged woman with balls dangling to her knees!!!

Older men don't keep their looks but once I got over myself and actually dated some (because I'm old-ish too) I found that the ones with the right attitude and fitness level are great fun. They've seen enough to look on women as equals, IME.

@Classof66 I did giggle at your post!

Rotund men of our generation tend to say they have a rugby player's physique.

However rugby players of 20/30 years ago were sooooooo much different to today's players!!

I'm not saying that this is true of you, of course ;)

Weird to think if you're on Tinder we may have seen each other!! Hahaha

Dh is fit and trendy at 43 he was watching dd play hockey and one of the mums asked if he were there watching his girlfriend! (Dd13 and plays in seniors so twenty somethings play too). Feel I need to watch my step! That said his worst nightmare would be going back to the baby and toddler years and all his acquaintances who have binned their wives for younger models have had to go this - see also Boris...

EmeraldShamrock · 01/03/2020 15:47

@fallsballs

Oh god no (I may have to name change as I can’t get that awful ball hanging image away as he skipped to the en-suite, appendage flying around and dangerously low to his knees) Hilarious 🤣 Please don't name change your witty sense of humour will be loss in the masses.

How is OP BU? Your hubby may look flood but he married someone 10 years younger so he obviously wasn't into women the same age as him!

CanIhelpyouatall · 02/03/2020 20:11

Look not flood

CanIhelpyouatall · 02/03/2020 20:12
