When I got home from work husband had pain in his lower right chest/upper abdomen and was struggling to breathe in properly. He kept telling me he was fine and he’d just got very cold on his cycle home from work (it’s about 45 mins-an hour in all weathers so not entirely inconceivable) and would be fine once he warmed up. I put it down to an intercostal muscle sprain or maybe a virus. Before bed I checked his temperature and it was 37.8 so again, I assumed viral infection. Kept telling me he was fine 🙄

We tried to get an early night at about 8.45 as we were both shattered. He’s been lying next to me with really laboured/irregular breathing, whimpering. He’s now got aching/pulsating hips/bum/legs. His temp is 38.3. He just asked me to check the colour of his legs ‘because they feel like they are rotting away’. I’m assuming he’s a bit feverish?! They look normal! I’ve given him some paracetamol but he’s point blank refusing to come out from under the duvet or take off his pjs. He was complaining that he hadn’t been able to poo today earlier (very unusual for him).

He’s an endurance athlete and used to a fresh kind of hell when it comes to suffering so I’m inclined to think whatever this is must be pretty awful to have floored him like this. I have no idea whether he’s about to drop down dead or if he’s being a bit dramatic.

111, I wouldn't hesitate.

Haybo26 · 20/02/2020 23:36

Hmmm..I think he needs to get checked out. Could be anything but better be on the safe side. My hubby is usually fit as fiddle....last October he woke up feeling fine one day...by the afternoon he was so so Ill. Fever, chest pain, sweats, laboured breathing...he ended up in hospital for 8 days with pneumonia....all out of the blue. Get him checked out tomorrow. Wishing him well.

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/02/2020 23:37

Ring 111 if you are worried, or make an urgent app with gp.

Mads123 · 20/02/2020 23:37

111 at the least. Hope he's ok.

KindKylie · 20/02/2020 23:37

Everything you've said indicates that he isn't given to drama and that he may be genuinely poorly.

I would be inclined to go to A&E overnight tbh. Not being able to breathe normally, with a temperature and change in personality could indicate infection/sepsis.

sarahbanshee · 20/02/2020 23:37

It could be sepsis. Medical advice ASAP - 111, or A&E

chinateapot · 20/02/2020 23:38

Call 111. Nothing bad is going to happen as a result of calling and asking. He sounds poorly and unusually so for him.

NotYourHun · 20/02/2020 23:39

He keeps murmuring ‘fasted workouts’ and is waving his arm. He’s not with it. Before he drifted off, he told he he had pain in his lower right side. I have no idea what to think.

Please call 111. I would want to rule out sepsis at this point.

ruby29 · 20/02/2020 23:40

I think he needs to see someone tonight. Given the time I would take him to A&E.
Hope he’s better soon.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 20/02/2020 23:41

Don't think just call.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 20/02/2020 23:41

111 now. They will ask to talk to him and that sounds like worth checking out

ch3rrycola · 20/02/2020 23:41

I think A&E

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/02/2020 23:41

Please call 111 now, or go to A&E if you can manage to get him in car.

Hope he's ok Thanks

Quartz2208 · 20/02/2020 23:41

Call 111 although with his breathing and pain I suspect ambulance

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 20/02/2020 23:43

111 for sure

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 20/02/2020 23:43

He definitely sounds like he needs seeing. Call111.

Mamimawr · 20/02/2020 23:43

Can you wake him OP? I would take him to A&E tonight. It could be sepsis. I've had sepsis, I walked into hospital and didn't feel as ill as your husband sounds until a few hours later.

drinkygin · 20/02/2020 23:45

Definitely 111 at the very least but with what you’re describing OP I’d be taking him to A&E. sepsis is a possibility I’d get him seen urgently

WeShouldBeFriends · 20/02/2020 23:46

Just 999 actually as 111 will dispatch an ambulance for what you have described. I don't say that lightly, I work for ambulance service and see so many 'not real jobs' but your husband needs to be assessed ASAP.

Northernsoullover · 20/02/2020 23:47

A & E definitely

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 20/02/2020 23:48

Please get him seen ASAP

user1473878824 · 20/02/2020 23:49

Are you really having to ask?! He’s not usually a man flu type, has a temperature and is out of it? Just call 111 or take him to A&E

andpeggy1 · 20/02/2020 23:51

If he's having dilutions n he has a temp above 38degrees. He's got a raging infection( most likely sepsis) he needs an ambulance ringing right away. I can't believe you need people on Mumsnet to tell you this!

SageYourResoluteOracle · 20/02/2020 23:51

999 and tell dispatch that you're worried it could be sepsis. Long story but I've experience of this and time is of the essence.
