When I got home from work husband had pain in his lower right chest/upper abdomen and was struggling to breathe in properly. He kept telling me he was fine and he’d just got very cold on his cycle home from work (it’s about 45 mins-an hour in all weathers so not entirely inconceivable) and would be fine once he warmed up. I put it down to an intercostal muscle sprain or maybe a virus. Before bed I checked his temperature and it was 37.8 so again, I assumed viral infection. Kept telling me he was fine 🙄

We tried to get an early night at about 8.45 as we were both shattered. He’s been lying next to me with really laboured/irregular breathing, whimpering. He’s now got aching/pulsating hips/bum/legs. His temp is 38.3. He just asked me to check the colour of his legs ‘because they feel like they are rotting away’. I’m assuming he’s a bit feverish?! They look normal! I’ve given him some paracetamol but he’s point blank refusing to come out from under the duvet or take off his pjs. He was complaining that he hadn’t been able to poo today earlier (very unusual for him).

He’s an endurance athlete and used to a fresh kind of hell when it comes to suffering so I’m inclined to think whatever this is must be pretty awful to have floored him like this. I have no idea whether he’s about to drop down dead or if he’s being a bit dramatic.

Thinkingabout1t · 21/02/2020 08:28

Really hoping there’s no update because they’re safely in hospital and DH is being successfully treated. OP, I hope you’re both ok.

FizzyIce · 21/02/2020 08:29

Oh my god,how terrifying .
Really hope your dh is getting the help he needs and you’re ok too .

debbs77 · 21/02/2020 08:31

Tell him to "man up"???? What an awful thing to say. In this current age of depression and suicide, is this still a phrase to use? How insulting.

I hope you did the right thing and got him there asap

TheLadyAnneNeville · 21/02/2020 08:32

Raging infection. Immediate medical opinion should be sought. People die very quickly from sepsis.

HelenaJustina · 21/02/2020 08:33

Hope all is resolving. My DH can be quite ‘man fluey’ about being ill but when he was seriously unwell he didn’t have the energy to play it up.

inwood · 21/02/2020 08:36

Hope he's ok op. It does sound like sepsis, my step dad was the same.

overnightangel · 21/02/2020 08:38

The use of “Tell him to man up” ffs 🙄

sockittome123 · 21/02/2020 08:41

Best wishes OP

'Tell him to "man up"???? What an awful thing to say. In this current age of depression and suicide, is this still a phrase to use? How insulting. '

Oh do get down off your high horse, the woman's husband is potentially seriously ill and you're willing to boot her when she's down because of a common phrase she unthinkingly used when in a panic.

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/02/2020 08:44

Hope he is ok and you have been more sympathetic than 'man up'

Dogwalks2 · 21/02/2020 08:48

Hope he is being treated now.

FabulouslyFab · 21/02/2020 08:50

Remember “Be Kind” ??? 🤦‍♀️

You mean in the way she advised the OP that telling a guy who is sick to man up, isn’t being kind? She makes an excellent point.
