To ask you how you found your 'Signature Scent'?

I have tried many different perfumes - my current fragrances include Opium, Obsession, Bulgari Jasmine Noir (a favourite), Philosophy Magnolia & Amazing Grace, Liz Earle No. 9 & No. 20, Dior Coco but I still haven't found a special scent. i like musky/spicy/patouli/ types best - what are your favourites, can anyone recommend something a bit more unusual that might be lovely to have as a 'Signature Scent', that doesn't cost the earth?

My best scent is Mitsouko by Guerlain. I have lots of others but this is the one that makes me "happy" when I spray it on, if you can see what I mean.

TSSDNCOP · 19/02/2020 17:19

Walked into Jo Malone as I was early for a train.

Grapefruit if you’re wondering.

shinyredbus · 19/02/2020 17:20

Mademoiselle Coco

Sammy867 · 19/02/2020 17:21

I use viktor and rolf flowerbomb. It’s musky with maybe a touch of cinnamon to me. I chose it as it’s comforting. I smell it and immediately think of being warm and cosy. It’s always on and off offer in places like boots.

Honkingallthewaytothebank · 19/02/2020 17:21

Got a jo malone advent calendar - excellent way to plough through a lot of scents!

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 19/02/2020 17:22

I don’t have a signature and I don’t think everyone will, I spray whatever I feel will make me happy that day and sometimes I have one I’ll wear a few days in a row, at the minute that it Flowerbomb Dew

NemophilistRebel · 19/02/2020 17:23

I can spend ages on a jo malone counter

I find my signature scent can change over the years

I love orange blossom but since being pregnant I like pomegranate noir which I used to hate

isseywith4vampirecats · 19/02/2020 17:24

tried a tester in Debenhams and that was it loved it Opium (original)

caperplips · 19/02/2020 17:25

I like cologne type scents and more masculine. I hate anything floral. I veer towards vetiver, bergamot, oud etc.

At the moment I have 3 scents which I alternate - Santa Maria Novella eau, Creed Savage Neroli, Le Labo Bergamot 22. Found them all through LOTS of sniffing around perfume counters in places like Libertys.

I have previously worn Acqua de Parma, Tom Ford - neroli portofino and grey vetyver etc

I lOVE perfume, it has the power to transform my mood and therefore my day!

BeaLola · 19/02/2020 17:27

Try the jo loves new range made for Zara - something for everyone and not that expensive

Genderwitched · 19/02/2020 17:27

Mine is Floriental by Comme Des Garcons.

I used to wear Feminite du Bois by Shiseido but that was discontinued and Floriental is very close. Its lovely.

NearlyGranny · 19/02/2020 17:27

I fell in love in Paris, in the fragrance section of Galeries Lafayette. The fragrance was Thierry Mugler's Angel, which I always say the French way because that's how I first heard it named. It's my winter fragrance. ❤️

Greenteandchives · 19/02/2020 17:28

My DH bought me Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir a while ago, and has replaced it when it ran out, so that’s mine. It reminds me of lovely times when I wear it.

DotBall · 19/02/2020 17:29

My favourite signature scents are Ralph Lauren Romance and Acqua di Gio Profumo (a men’s scent, but it works well on me and I love it).

DotBall · 19/02/2020 17:31

One was found by smelling it on someone and asking what they were a
wearing, the other via lots of sniffing in Boots!

I like amber, patchouli, fresh, woody, spicy, green, white, clean scents. I can’t stand musky, smoky or watery scents.

My summer go-to is Carolina Herrera 212 original.

thecatsthecats · 19/02/2020 17:32

I tend to be of the opinion that people who think they have a 'signature scent' are just a wee bit up themselves.

So whatever scent you spray on yourself, you risk sounding like bullshit.

RightSwipe · 19/02/2020 17:32

You don’t have to have a signature. I’m a perfume fiend and prefer to have a selection of perfumes to suit my mood, the weather, what I’m doing that day etc. Much like clothing.

I do have certain perfumes that have just felt like ‘me’ during certain periods of my life, though. Love, Chloe has been my sort-of-signature for a few years - powdery purple flowers - but it’s long discontinued and I’m getting through my back-up bottles now, so it will have to change again!

I’d recommend trying out samples. Get ideas from Fragrantica for perfumes with the notes you like and then seek out samples online. There are more and more sample sites around these days.

DonKeyshot · 19/02/2020 17:32

What smells good on me may not smell good so on you.

It's trial and error. I've tried and tested loads of perfumes and thought I was destined to continually change until I fell in wholly and completely in love with Lagerfield's Sun Moon Stars. This is my signature scent and will be till they stop making it/the end of my days.

However, although I don't find it at all overpowering, for work I layer Philosophy shower gels, body creams, and perfume as they are subtle and smell 'clean'. I used to be an Amazing Grace fan but when they came up with Ballet Rose I switched as, on me, it is a beautiful rose fragrance that lasts all day.

RUOKHon · 19/02/2020 17:33

I was on a business trip with my old boss, he bought his wife some perfume in duty free and I had a sniff - and fell in love with it.

I didn’t tell him (because I thought it might be weird) but on the plane I bought myself some too! I never wore it to work though.

ParkheadParadise · 19/02/2020 17:33

I don't have one.
I like to change mine, I have on the go just now
Coco mademoiselle
Flowerbomb
Stella
Jimmy Choo

LateMumma · 19/02/2020 17:33

I like musky, spicy fragrance too. I went and
spoke to a consultant at a counter years ago, and she made lots of suggestions. For Her by narcisso Rodriguez has stuck. Good luck!

marashino · 19/02/2020 17:35

I don’t have a signature and I don’t think everyone will,

Neither do I, it's whatever is cheapest in B&M by the till.

Dizzygirl00 · 19/02/2020 17:39

Coco madamoiselle

lekkerkroketje · 19/02/2020 17:41

I try a different one in Duty free every time I go through. If I'm not feeling sick by take-off, it's promising. Sometimes I'm scrubbing my arms in the loos though!

Moo7878 · 19/02/2020 17:43

@DonKeyshot - mine too. Adore it. But it's been discontinued for ages now - only available for inflated prices on eBay!
