I have tried many different perfumes - my current fragrances include Opium, Obsession, Bulgari Jasmine Noir (a favourite), Philosophy Magnolia & Amazing Grace, Liz Earle No. 9 & No. 20, Dior Coco but I still haven't found a special scent. i like musky/spicy/patouli/ types best - what are your favourites, can anyone recommend something a bit more unusual that might be lovely to have as a 'Signature Scent', that doesn't cost the earth?

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc
Tom Ford Lost Cherry
Tom Ford Rive D'Ambre (discontinued)
Diptyque 34

Layoverlife · 19/02/2020 19:24

My all time favourite and signature sent is Armani code, been wearing it for years and often receive many compliments.

VerityAl · 19/02/2020 19:24

YSL Opium De Vapeurs, favorite perfume of all time but understand it has now been discontinued. Wish I had known so that I could have stocked up. Nothing comes close to it.

Flaskfan · 19/02/2020 19:27

Ck euphoria for everyday or Donna karan red apple
Hugo red or Gauthier for going out

Alsohuman · 19/02/2020 19:33

I’m a complete perfume tart, I dread to think how many bottles I’ve got on the go. My favourite winter scent, which completely meets your requirements OP, is Cabochard by Gres. It’s like a big warm hug and is cheap as chips while paradoxically smelling expensive.

berryhead2013 · 19/02/2020 19:34

Check out al rehab perfumes they are made in Dubai or something my favourite is elena it's smells exactly like ananya from the body shop they do oils and rolll ons and are very cheap so if you don't like it it hasn't cost the earth

snappycamper · 19/02/2020 19:36

Clarins Eau Dynamisante for Winter.

Love this but it's definitely a summer scent for me

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/02/2020 19:38

Farts and garlic. It found me, dahlink.

Yorkshiremum17 · 19/02/2020 19:43

Jo m. Mimosa & Cardamom - makes me smilewhen I wear it!

Estee lauder beatiful or white linen

purplecorkheart · 19/02/2020 19:49

Jo Malone advent calandar. Gave me my signature scent. My alternative (cheaper for work) was a random present from a client.

dementedma · 19/02/2020 19:57

jesus that really made me laugh!

Lippy1234 · 19/02/2020 19:58

J’adore Dior

Cherrysoup · 19/02/2020 19:59

I tend to be of the opinion that people who think they have a 'signature scent' are just a wee bit up themselves

Bit rude! I found one I like and stick with it. Therefore it’s my go to/signature scent, I suppose.

I love So...? Vanilla, that’s currently my favourite, cheap and lasts well, smells fabulous. I’ve also got Yardley Rose on the go, possibly an old lady signature scent, but I love it!

I like fresh, fruity, floral, can’t bear musky scents, they make me unwell. A mate at Uni used to wear Samsara and I couldn’t go in her room. 😢

ultrablue · 19/02/2020 20:01

I wore Gurleains Jardins de Bagatelle for years then it began to smell different, might try it again next time I go into town. Currently I rotate between Angel and Alien au extraordinaire for day time and Alien or Jimmy Choo illicit for an evening

cavabiensepasser · 19/02/2020 20:01

I never really believed in the concept. The idea of having only one fragrance sounds painfully boring.

Right now I'm rotating:

Guerlain Shalimar
Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Chanel Coromandel
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
Guerlain Samsara
The House of Oud Golden Powder.

I love them all, couldn't possibly pick one, and get bored easily.

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 19/02/2020 20:04

Totally by accident but I love how it happened and it makes me smile every time I wear it.

My very best friend and colleague went away on holiday to the Caribbean and brought me back some perfume, saying 'I know this is your favourite.' I had never smelled it or used it ever before but I absolutely loved it, thanked her profusely and didn't let on at all.

She had bought me Clinique Aromatics Elixir but had confused it with Prescriptives Calyx, which was my then favourite.

To this day Clinique Aromatics Elixir remains my favourite perfume. I wear it every day. My lovely friend died a couple of years afterwards from cancer and I miss her like hell. But every time I spray the perfume I think of her. It probably sounds ridiculous but its like she's always with me.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 19/02/2020 20:04

I think you'll either find it or you won't. And that's OK.

I had a ridiculously large collecttion of 100+ bottles. I found that 50% of the time I was reaching for the same one.

Hot day? I'd reach for it. Cold day? I'd reach for it. Work? I'd wear it. Night out? I'd reach for it. Unusual social situation that I feel anxious about? I'd reach for it.

So it's been my signature for a few years now. Of course, it's recently been discontinued so once stocks dry up on fleabay I guess I'll go back to being a perfume tart until I gravitate towards a new signature.

(And screw you, Penhaligons, you utter utter bastards)

Mitsouko67 · 19/02/2020 20:05

In my heyday it was Mitsouko though I haven't had it for years. I like the sound of CDG Floriental and Portrait.

goldenorbspider · 19/02/2020 20:06

Gucci guilty, wore it just loved it. Always reach for it. Don't feel the urge to buy any other fragrance

neighbourhoodwitch · 19/02/2020 20:06

Penhaligon's Halfeti. To die for but expensive!

L1appelDuVide · 19/02/2020 20:16

I’m still waiting to grow up enough for Chanel No. 5.

NaturalBornWoman · 19/02/2020 20:19

I always wore no 5 and still love it but my daughter told me it reminds her of a terrible time (she was seriously ill) so I've stopped wearing it. I'm wearing Portrait of a Lady and Music for a While from Frederic Malle or the Le Labo Rose one.

Reginabambina · 19/02/2020 20:19

There a little shop in Paris where you walk in and they tell you what your scent is. I can’t remember what it’s called or the name of the street but that’s where I found mine, it wasn’t what I was expecting but it was exactly what I needed.

3rdchristmaslucky · 19/02/2020 20:21

Narcisso Rodriguez For Her.
Got a sample of it, I fell in love with it and everyone complimented me.

Lucked · 19/02/2020 20:24

I found my signature scent a few times only for them to be discontinued.

I did notice that an old signature of mine had been relaunched but not in the same price bracket as before. Sicily but now £175 for 50mls and only availability in Harrods. I am going to have to pass.
