To ask you how you found your 'Signature Scent'?

I have tried many different perfumes - my current fragrances include Opium, Obsession, Bulgari Jasmine Noir (a favourite), Philosophy Magnolia & Amazing Grace, Liz Earle No. 9 & No. 20, Dior Coco but I still haven't found a special scent. i like musky/spicy/patouli/ types best - what are your favourites, can anyone recommend something a bit more unusual that might be lovely to have as a 'Signature Scent', that doesn't cost the earth?

Followed a lady who smelt lovely and asked her . Not my proudest moment !

ChicChicChicChiclana · 19/02/2020 18:16

As well as my signature scent (which is a strong one as I also like patchouli scents OP) I wear Patchouliful by Laboratoria Olfattivo but I like to mix things up a bit so don't wear it all the time.

Also, Paloma Picasso (a total classic) might suit you too.

thecatsthecats The person who told me that the niff I was experiencing was her 'Signature Scent', I promise I am not up myself at all, just that it would be lovely to find a perfume that cheers me up massively/confidence giving/etc.

I suspect the idea of a 'signature scent' is a marketing ploy to lock in customers. I use to wear only one scent but that was because I knew far less about perfume than I do now, now I wear a different perfume every day, in fact I often change my perfume for the evening (not for doing amything fancy, just usual bedtime routine with 3DC).

DonKeyshot · 19/02/2020 18:21

@Moo7878. Oh no, . When? I've been gifted so much of it that I haven't had to buy any for the past few years. I'm desolate. I discovered it around millenium time. 20 happy years Sad Sad Sad

StarburstSurprise · 19/02/2020 18:23

Ooh yes, evening perfume always needs to be different. I can remember when I was a teenager and Giorgio Beverley Hills was banned in certain restaurants though.

Yes, portrait of a lady

I also have Carnal Flower - which is such a sexy scent

StarburstSurprise · 19/02/2020 18:28

So many ideas, thank you!

I go to Penhaligons and like Empressa for the day and Halfeti for the evening. I also like Artemis and Luna though. The one that really was my signature scent has been discontinued and I miss it terribly! Still trying to find something like it several years later....

JulesJules · 19/02/2020 18:33

Mine is Mitsouko. I think I tried it when I was younger (20) and didn't like it, but tried it again a few years later and it was so me, have worn it ever since. If you know the type you usually like, you could check on a perfume website for suggestions?

Daisychainsandglitter · 19/02/2020 18:33

I love Stella. I'm yet to find another perfume that I like as much as this.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 19/02/2020 18:33

I have two, Sarah Jessica Parker - Dawn for Summer. Clarins Eau Dynamisante for Winter.

Both beautiful (to me) and not ridiculously expensive.

Yabadee · 19/02/2020 18:35

I found the most amazing perfume ever on a Ryanair flight last summer - bad girl by Caroline Herrera, the high heel bottle.

I normally just wear whatever DP buys me for Christmas but absolutely fell in love with this one. On my second bottle now

Lolacherrycola78 · 19/02/2020 18:35

Anything by Chanel, love them all (and have them all).

dementedma · 19/02/2020 18:37

The Hermès one that smells of the sea. Cant remember the bloody name of it and i wear it every day. Love 4711 in summer

ThisIsTheGreatestShow · 19/02/2020 18:40

Another one for Narciso Rodriguez for her. Been my go-to since first finding it more than 15 years ago. Other favourites are Prada Amber and Chanel Coco Noir.

triptrapdollydumpling · 19/02/2020 18:40

I also love Stella.

yoikes · 19/02/2020 18:41

peacypops · 19/02/2020 18:41

Chanel for me. I'm in my 40s now and discovered Chanel Allure as a student in France. Have worn it ever since. Also have Chanel Gabrielle which is a newer one and equally lovely. I do also like Paul Smith Rose which is much lighter and nice in the summer.

SusanneLinder · 19/02/2020 18:41

My favourite perfume at the moment is Marc Jacob's Decadence. Also like Gucci Bamboo and most Kenzo perfumes. Gutted when Kenzo discontinued Jungle.

rosegoldwatcher · 19/02/2020 18:41

I have dabbled with a few; Opium Noir, Chanel Cristalle, Mitsouko etc but keep coming back to Estee Lauder Knowing - so I suppose that is my signature scent. In the summer I switch to Bronze Goddess, if I can get it before they sell out.
If I had unlimited funds I would drench myself in Armani Prive, Ambre Eccentrico.

puppymouse · 19/02/2020 18:42

I don't remember how I found it which isn't overly helpful. Been wearing Chanel Allure for over a decade. Love it.

oopsdaisy · 19/02/2020 18:45

Boots counter, tried loads. Knew I preferred vanilla/musky scents. I would say Dior Addict is my 'signature'.

atomicblonde30 · 19/02/2020 18:45

Jo Malone pomegranate noir is ‘my smell’ it’s one of the only perfumes I like and I’ve worn it for years. Got lots of happy memories such as romantic Greek holidays attached to it. Go in an have a sniff see what you love.

atomicblonde30 · 19/02/2020 18:47

My sisters is Gucci rush and mum mums Chanel no 5. Funny how you associate smells with people.
