I have tried many different perfumes - my current fragrances include Opium, Obsession, Bulgari Jasmine Noir (a favourite), Philosophy Magnolia & Amazing Grace, Liz Earle No. 9 & No. 20, Dior Coco but I still haven't found a special scent. i like musky/spicy/patouli/ types best - what are your favourites, can anyone recommend something a bit more unusual that might be lovely to have as a 'Signature Scent', that doesn't cost the earth?

Try Dior Addict. The original one. Or Narcisso Rodriguez. They match your tastes. I swear by them.

Mummyshark2018 · 20/02/2020 20:19

Love perfume but don't have a signature scent.

Daytime- Charlotte tilbury- scent of a dream. Soap smelling and lovely or ghost.

Evening casual- Ralph Lauren romance or Angel

Special occasion- Chanel chance

Santal 33 by le labo. I kept smelling it on people out and about..... Something about it just makes me so happy.

This smells like cat piss on me

FreakStar · 20/02/2020 23:32

In my (extensive) experience of perfume, you usually get what you pay for, with more expensive perfumes lasting longer and having a better development throughout the day. Great quality brands I own include Chanel (especially the exclusifs range), Frederic Malle, James Heeley, Sisley, Francis kirkdjjian and even some Estée Lauder ones.

I always think Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens is a great unusual scent for women - it’s kind of woody and floral at the same time and has a slightly masculine side to it but is definitely sexy for women - it has
a very musky, almost dirty knicker smell IYKWIM but is very pleasant - try it!

Jimmy Choo - Flash
Michael Kors - Midnight Shimmer 🤤

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 21/02/2020 00:47

Chanel No 5. Are there others? Shock

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 21/02/2020 01:37

Shalimar. It’s been my go-to for ages - I just love the smell!

steff13 · 21/02/2020 03:52

I got a Sephora catalog with a sample in it. I bought it the next day. Yellow Diamond by Versace. I get compliments all the time.

EerieSilence · 21/02/2020 04:44

Floriental is marvellous.
Modern Muse Nuit by Estee. Lauder
I love several Victoria Secret scents too.

StarburstSurprise · 21/02/2020 13:24

I don't have a signature scent, I flit between a few, as my skin has changed over the years and what suited me before doesn't suit me now.

I currently like Gucci Bloom nettare di fiori. I used to like Laura Ashley Number 1 many years ago, but they've changed the formula and it just doesn't smell right any more.

ultrablue · 21/02/2020 21:31

** I wanted a scent that would link to good memories for my daughter at this stage in her life as scent is very powerful in memories. I usually wear it to bed (not a lot) as well as during the day so when she comes in for a cuddle on a nighttime we’re both surrounded by a comforting smell she associates with me

I always wore Angel when mine were little, that's the smell they associate with childhood and want to smell for comfort. I've had to give my eldest daughter a bottle when she left home xx

silencebeforethebleeps · 21/02/2020 22:18

Daytime - Diptyque Vetyverio with a spray of L'eau de Néroli on top
Evening - Byredo Slow Dance
I went on Perfumista, ordered lots of little mini testers and wore them a couple of days each to find out what made me happy.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 21/02/2020 23:17

I really want to wear Chanel no5 but it smells like cat pee on me.

Elphame · 21/02/2020 23:36

Mine is First by Van Cleef & Arpel.

Loved it when I first discovered it in the 1980s and have worn it pretty much exclusively ever since.

StarburstSurprise · 22/02/2020 19:52

Ok, so far I have tested Penhaligon's Halfeti, been wearing it for a couple of hours, I love it but DH says it is too much oompf! Anyway, how do you probounce it, Hallfettee, Halfettee, Hallfeetee or Halfettee?

OP posts:
StarburstSurprise · 22/02/2020 19:53

Pronounce even

Chanel no5 is v boring. Never met anybody who said they loved it.

Mummyshark2019 · 22/02/2020 19:58

Byredo - La Tulipe.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 22/02/2020 19:58

I wear Silver Mountain Water by Creed. I did a degree in fine art and one of my projects was a study based around perfumes and aftershaves - I was given SMW as a tester and fell madly in love with it (and was simultaneously horrified at the price) and haven't worn much else since.

I get people stop me and ask what it is at least once a week.

TurquoiseDress · 22/02/2020 20:11

Lolita Lempicka is mine!

Discovered it in House of Fraser, love it!

caperplips · 24/02/2020 13:08

OP I sent away for Penhaligons Halfeti sample, along with their Cairo. They arrived this morning. I'm in work so didn't want to go spraying something I have never smelt before around the place. I put a TINY spray inside the envelope and it is quite strong. It reminds me a little of Tom Ford Black Orchid which I really like for evenings. But it's too much for me for daytime wear.

Cairo smells lovely and may be a more day wear one, I'll have to try them on my skin at home later.

I literally cannot stand portrait of a lady, it's far too strong and has a really harsh top note which hurts the inside of my nose. I was out with someone last week who was wearing it and it made me feel nauseous. It really reminds me of something from the 80's - Poison?

Must look out for Creed Silver Mountain Water and have a sniff. I generally love creed and I currently have Neroli Sauvage which I adore

dottiedodah · 24/02/2020 13:14

Adore La Vie A Belle by Lancome .Not super expensive ,but not cheap either .Really lifts my mood! EDP is best though as EDT seems to fade too quickly .
