To ask you how you found your 'Signature Scent'?

I have tried many different perfumes - my current fragrances include Opium, Obsession, Bulgari Jasmine Noir (a favourite), Philosophy Magnolia & Amazing Grace, Liz Earle No. 9 & No. 20, Dior Coco but I still haven't found a special scent. i like musky/spicy/patouli/ types best - what are your favourites, can anyone recommend something a bit more unusual that might be lovely to have as a 'Signature Scent', that doesn't cost the earth?

I like musky, spicy fragrance too. I went and spoke to a consultant at a counter years ago, and she made lots of suggestions. For Her by narcisso Rodriguez has stuck. Good luck!

This is almost exactly what I came here to say. Also echoing the poster who said don't limit yourself to a signature scent. I recently had a clear out of my perfume drawer and it turns out I have almost 50 bottles Shock. I rarely wear the same one two days in a row and often love a squirt on the way to bed. The narcisso Rodriguez is the one I wear for work, noticeable but not too spicy. I also love Chanel no 19 and quite a few serge lutens scents but if you don't want to spend much I'd steer clear of those

Mine changes all the time. Once I spent a fortune on a Tom Ford which I absolutely loved. 3 years on (lots of care taken, not put in sunlight and still smells the same) and it sometimes really turns my stomach. I need a new one!

Idonttrackpeas · 19/02/2020 17:48

I bought a scent for a friend and got a free sample with it which I loved!

CuriousCapricorn · 19/02/2020 17:49

I’m 52 and discovered my signature scent when I was 18 and it was first launched.
The advert was all about people being drawn to you when wearing it! Being young and impressionable I asked my mum and dad to get me some for Christmas and I was hooked.

It’s Poeme by Lancôme and the most amazing smell. It does indeed draw people to you and it’s quite a strong scent but lasts for ages on the skin.

It’s not the easiest to find but several shops do stock it and it’s reasonably priced.
My others are Angel and Alien by Mugler and Chanel Allure. I absolutely love perfume and if I ever win the lotto I’m going to have a room solely dedicated to my perfume collection Grin

CuriousCapricorn · 19/02/2020 17:50

Jeez I’ve just added 10 years on me, I’m 42.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/02/2020 17:52

DH bought it as a gift and I loved it, I also liked that he was a fan of it (Coco Mademoiselle). I also like Gabrielle by Chanel, Hugo Boss Woman, Paul Smith Rose and Chopard Casmir.

Livy178 · 19/02/2020 17:53

I do not have a signature scent as such but I love Zadig and Voltaire this is her , Turquatic by Mac.

MidnightBlue28 · 19/02/2020 17:54

I discovered this scent at a Mind Body & Spirit festival... sadly you can no longer purchase it in the UK, but this US supplier ships to the UK

Used to be coco mademoiselle but it's now Portrait of a Lady which is vv expensive.A gorgeous red rose scent with cinnamon, clove, patchouli, sandalwood and incense

HalfBloodPrincess · 19/02/2020 17:57

I've only ever worn 2 perfumes - ocean dream until age 21 and Jean Paul Gaultier as an adult.

Babyroobs · 19/02/2020 17:57

I wear a £3.99 one from Lidl. I get lots of comments on how lovely it is !

marashino · 19/02/2020 17:57

$390 for 100ml spray?! That's obscene to charge that much.

Babyroobs · 19/02/2020 17:59

I think the Lidl one is renowned for smelling like Coco mademoiselle.

SpinjitzuMaster · 19/02/2020 18:01

One of my friends is a perfumier and i wear one of his. Im very fussy though and must have weird skin as jo malone smells vile on me!

Saranvenya · 19/02/2020 18:04

Don't know about a 'signature scent', I just love perfume.
I have quite a collection of Jo Malone but tend to wear Orange Bitters to work.
Evenings I wear Penhaligon's Halfeti as I love the smell.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/02/2020 18:04

I've got about 40 perfumes and I appear to only really like stupidly expensive scents

My favourite is a Frederic Malle one - people stop me in the street to ask about it, follow me round stores. It's £160 a bottle Shock

happymummy12345 · 19/02/2020 18:05

My favourite is angel

Oblomov20 · 19/02/2020 18:07

I asked in a perfume shop. I've always liked strong perfumes. I told her all the ones I'd tried: channel number 19 etc, and she recommended a Lancôme one.
3 people have commented/complimented me on my perfume since I started wearing it a year ago. So I guess she was right.

Hadjab · 19/02/2020 18:09

I have a signature scent only because most perfumes give me migraine. It used to be Yohji by Yohji Yamamoto, now it’s L’ombre dans l’way by Diptyque.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/02/2020 18:11

I've tried so many and eventually the smells make me feel sick. About 2 years ago I was give coco mademoiselle as a birthday present by dp and have worn that ever since. The smell never makes me queezy and I still love it. I use the moisture mist for every day use, and the actual perfume for special occasions.

CinderellasSecrets · 19/02/2020 18:11

Perfume seems to stop having smell after 20 minutes on me (others can't smell it either) so I tend not to bother very much, I did find a perfume in Ann summers once that I actually really liked though and wore all the time BlushGrin

ChicChicChicChiclana · 19/02/2020 18:11

People kept on saying to me how nice I smelt. A comment nearly every time I gave a friend a hug or kiss to say hello.

It is a scent that some people really don't like but I think it smells different on different people.

Nodressrehearsal · 19/02/2020 18:13

Safari Ralph Lauren but it’s discontinued now so am on my last bottle, help!!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/02/2020 18:15

If I had to pick one, I would say Chanel 19 would be my signature scent. In reality I have about 40 different perfumes, including many of those mentioned above, plus a big metal tin of samples. I want to smell differently depending on my mood! Perfume is a bit of a hobby. An expensive one.

OP, come over to the perfume thread on S&B if you want advice. But hide your bank card.

ANiceLuxury · 19/02/2020 18:15

@LaurieFairyCake which one is it that people stop you in the street? Is it the portrait of a lady one?
