to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters

mrsmootoo · 29/01/2020 16:53

Can't forgive Brexiters for voting Leave. Find it impossible to move on from this. If there are any positives about leaving EU (?!) they are far outweighed by Remaining. Brexit posts on social media are so aggressive and unpleasant - you lost get over it. Really concerned about my kids' prospects, not being able to travel/work abroad as easily etc.

Well I'm afraid it is time to get over it. It's a done deal now. What's the point in still being upset?

Alexandernevermind · 29/01/2020 16:57

We live in a democracy. Saying you can't forgive people who disagreed with you is abhorrent. Have a look at what happens in countries where violence is used to control votes.

mummmy2017 · 29/01/2020 16:58

If anyone tells you they didn't vote, you can tell them off, they were the people who placed you in this position.

Antihop · 29/01/2020 16:59

Agreed op. @muruem I will not get over it. It's a national disaster. The referendum was a knife edge result, and was won unfairly through lies and propaganda. Leaving the eu has a huge impact on my personal and family situation too. I am unable to stop being angry.

MaxNormal · 29/01/2020 16:59

Have a look at what happens in countries where violence is used to control votes.

What's that got to do with having an opinion?

OP I agree. A disgraceful display of ignorance, self-harm, small-mindedness and insularity.

nicky7654 · 29/01/2020 16:59

You can't forgive 17.4 million people? Hilarious

user142745271 · 29/01/2020 17:00

People can fuck off with that "get over it" bullshit. If that were remotely valid we'd not have had people bitching demanding a referendum in the first place or lying and cheating to fuck the country over.

TheMustressMhor · 29/01/2020 17:01

FWIW I agree with you OP.

This country will feel the effects of this for many, many years to come.

user142745271 · 29/01/2020 17:01

Saying you can't forgive people who disagreed with you is abhorrent.

Nonsense.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 29/01/2020 17:01

And I cannot forgive Remainers who behave so badly and on the whole are pretty clueless. It is done. Stuff happens. You cannot go through life thinking the workld revolves around you. Think about living in a country where there is war,or poverty and get some perspective on life. This is a great country and will not implode, in or out of the EU. This is not a declaration of a world war or the holocaust. Now stop being shallow and snowflaky. If the vote had been to Remain that would have been the end of it. It didnt. Decisions get made, the world moves on, there wasnt a nuclear bomb. Find a worthier cause

TheRealMcKenna · 29/01/2020 17:01

Maybe invest some of your emotional energy in finding out the reasons why people voted to Leave rather than just assume they are stupid.

You may be surprised.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/01/2020 17:01

It's going to be a disaster for our nation, an utter unmitigating circle of fucking relentless hell.

And I'm still going to ignore it and get the fuck on with it while complaining about the chlorinated food, people on beds in corridors, wages and rights going down, the hideous cuts and increasing gap between rich and poor.

But I'm going to get on with it (and complain)

MaxNormal · 29/01/2020 17:02

Maybe invest some of your emotional energy in finding out the reasons why people voted to Leave rather than just assume they are stupid.

I don't give a fuck any more why they voted how they did. Time for them to own it now.

GrolliffetheDragon · 29/01/2020 17:02

We live in a democracy. Saying you can't forgive people who disagreed with you is abhorrent.

Living in a democracy doesn't mean we all have to fall in line and agree with what was voted for. Some people's reasons for voting for Brexit are pretty abhorrent, should I just accept that and forgive it?

AriadnesFilament · 29/01/2020 17:04

Yes, you’re being unreasonable.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 29/01/2020 17:04

I wouldn’t get too worked up yet - we don’t know that it’s going to affect people’s ability to work/travel abroad. At most it will probably be another form or two to fill in.
People are getting hysterical over nothing at the moment. Who knows, it might end up being a good thing? A majority of the population seem to think so.
Why would the government be so keen to go ahead with it if they thought it was going to be really bad for the country?
Other countries aren’t just going to cut Great Britain off!

Meruem · 29/01/2020 17:05

@Antihop
But what good is anger going to do you? I could be angry about lots of things I don't like, but it won't change them. So it is a waste of emotional energy.

funmummy48 · 29/01/2020 17:05

It’s called being an adult 😉

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/01/2020 17:08

I can't forgive our elected representatives who fucked around for so long we got into the position we are in now.

Nor Cameron for his arrogance that started it.

But I don't have an axe to grind with anyone who voted Leave or Remain. We all voted according to our own beliefs. That's democracy.

It ALL could have been far less adversarial, scary, costly and aimless had parliament, individual politicians, done their job properly. Blame them! It's easy enough to let them know how you feel, just don't vote for them!

And work through it if you are in the minority in your constituency.

IvyTrails · 29/01/2020 17:08

It depends. My son in law voted leave and has since found out more and would have voted differently in another confirmatory referendum. People like that I have no issue with.

Others - the aggressive you lost get over it types? No, I hope their jobs are the first to go and that remainers go in front of them for healthcare.

The 'nice' ones who turn a blind eye to the suffering caused? I remember this from Naomi Shulman:

“Nice people made the best Nazis. My mom grew up next to them. They got along, refused to make waves, looked the other way when things got ugly and focused on happier things than “politics.” They were lovely people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away. You know who weren’t nice people? Resisters.”

jellybean85 · 29/01/2020 17:09

I used to think like that but since the election I no longer think it's on a knife edge. More people clearly want to leave than want to stay. It's really changed my way of thinking actually and I'm resigned to it.

Agree with others it will be shit but comparing it to horrendous disasters like civil war in Syria or th Holocaust are bloody ridiculous and a but embarrassing

Geraniumblue · 29/01/2020 17:10

Having always felt more European than British, I feel very sad. But not angry any more. I hope my teen will still be able to live and work in Europe if she wishes to do so. I hope the country will not suffer too badly. But I am not optimistic. I find myself turning toward other concerns and issues, because this one is finished.

barnet · 29/01/2020 17:10

I can’t forgive them either. My mum will not be able to come and live with us (we are in EEA country) as she gets frailer. Sucks big time. We have to jump through hoops as now ‘non EU citizens’ although our kids have lived here all their lives. Up yours whoever you are.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/01/2020 17:10

Well the country had a chance to overturn it in the GE. And they still voted in the party that were set to leave rather than the others. So you could say remainers have lost twice. And whilst the first time there may have been questions about lies and deceit I dont think you can say that so vehemently for the GE. Yet Labour or Lib Dems didnt get in.

Somanysocks · 29/01/2020 17:10

It's going to be a disaster for our nation, an utter unmitigating circle of fucking relentless hell.

Wow, how positive and useful
