It's great to have an array of replies and opinions when you post, to know that others are in the same situation, to have something that has helped me to identify red flags and signs of abuse. To have people cheer you up and people to talk to any time of the day.
The only thing I dislike are the small number of posters who will criticise you no matter what you write, who make cruel comments.

OP posts:
KellyHall · 26/01/2020 22:49

I dislike that people speed read then over-react to an issue that doesn't even exist but they've just mis-read the post.

I like having the opportunity to help people.

Honestface78 · 26/01/2020 22:57

The (sometimes) ripping apart of a poster's questions in a highly negative fashion, whilst not actually addressing the point in question

Silenceofthebams · 26/01/2020 22:58

I like to name change. From a privacy aspect it’s essential. I often wonder if people don’t realise that they can. A thread today was deleted as being outing, no, I think the other 20 threads you are on have already outed you. I think people get carried away and reveal too much.

I dislike the really really really long replies some people tend to give. It’s like an a4 essay.

Silenceofthebams · 26/01/2020 22:59

What is "ODFOD"?
Oh do fuck off dear

stoneysongs · 26/01/2020 23:48

Like: helpful advice, support, there are lovely threads like the one where people take on each other's worries overnight.
Also like the unending weirdness of other people, the thread about airing houses is just my cup of tea. "It's -2 here and I've had the back door open all day, I can't bear stuffiness"

Dislike: stealth boasting
Bold fails drive me mad. Just put A* or A star
Not really a fan of the baby naming threads
Some of the catchphrases / common language, like 'boils my piss' / 'grim' Confused
Some of the feminist threads, there was a RuPaul / BBC one which went very strange. Feels like a bit of an echo chamber where nobody is allowed to disagree

lalafafa · 27/01/2020 00:05

Like the support given to posters genuinely in need, the woman who posted about not liking her baby, she made great progress.

Pedants, totally uncalled for and make me really angry.

ToBeASnitchOrNot · 27/01/2020 00:11

But if you're not in the MN clique, and you say this to another poster who IS in the MN clique derails your thread with irrelevant nonsense, and you tell them to "DFOD" your post will he deleted. But the MN clique can get away with being abusive, cruel, obnoxious, obtuse and needlessly horrible.

But, amidst the cliquey shit, and obvious favouritism of certain posters, there are some very nice helpful posters.

It's highly likely my post here will be deleted too.

AutumnRose1 · 27/01/2020 00:23

I’d like there to be a way to only read posts by the OP. That might sound odd, but sometimes endless scrolling to find an update just makes me wander off.

I’d like to have an ignore or block poster option

No name changes unless approved by MN.

wibblysnail · 27/01/2020 01:06

I start to think MN has been invaded by ex Net huns, very lefty, on the lower scale in terms of finance, hates everyone who is successful.

And yet you say you don't like snobbery?! Biscuit

BingoLittlesUncle · 27/01/2020 01:37

I hate the lack of an edit function for posts!

jjjnnnnnrrssss · 27/01/2020 01:58

TERFs.

And not being able to block topics on the mobile apps.

Sadiee88 · 27/01/2020 02:11

That every man is a lying, cheating, whore. Hmm even if the thread isn’t about the man. If there’s a man involved... you can bet he’s having an affair with another woman or “using” the OP in some way.

squeekums · 27/01/2020 02:46

Hell yes, drives me nuts

Hairday · 27/01/2020 02:51

Yes!

I like all the mums living different lives. I find it reassuring and inspiring.

I wish the feminist chat was a bit more sophisticated and diverse.

echt · 27/01/2020 04:06

DISLIKES:

Hashtagging user names. My name is echt, not @echt.

Dozy fuckers who post about whether or not they are pregnant, with POAS photos. Duh.

Posters (always non-teachers- NPs) who stalk the Education Staffroom forum to post their three-penn'orth about a topic where teachers are venting about a matter the NPs know fuck all about.

LIKES:

The Archers, Aussies, Staffroom and Gardening threads, the haven of the rational.

The generally bracing atmosphere of AIBU, though it's gone a bit parochial lately. Less about bigger issues, more about stuff that should be in Chat.

redcarbluecar · 27/01/2020 04:37

I like the huge range of topics, the intelligence and the way life's little dilemmas are aired alongside the big ones. I also think it's very affirming when someone going through a horrible time is supported.
I dislike the sweeping judgments, the readiness with which some people advise others to dump and block their friends and the whinging when someone starts a thread on a topic that's been discussed before.

GinDaddy · 27/01/2020 04:48

I dislike that some posters use AIBU as a way of posting abuse and getting a verbal boot into an OP who is clearly vulnerable and has posted something sensitive. Then when challenged, hide behind the time-honoured "It's a place of robust debate, if you don't want to be told, then go to Nethuns" etc.

Some of those posters need to go on a debating course; there's nothing robust or informative about vindictive, "fuck off" posts designed to hurt an OP.

I dislike the clique that everyone claims isn't here but can be seen a mile off.

WardrobeJumper · 27/01/2020 04:53

I strongly dislike how normative it is. Deviance from the norm is seen as almost disgusting on here. There is no room for variety or difference or temper or personality. There are one or two "acceptable ways lo live/feel/respond/behave, and that's it. Anything else must be abolished.

Shockers · 27/01/2020 04:59

I get quite irritated by posters who psychoanalyse people’s partners and find them to have deep rooted hatred for women. It’s not always that dramatic- some people just get it wrong sometimes- I do, and I don’t hate men!

And the stock phrases to show you’re one of the MN gang.

But- there are some wise and experienced people, and some very witty ones too! Grin

echt · 27/01/2020 05:17

And the stock phrases to show you’re one of the MN gang

Such as?

Shockers · 27/01/2020 05:27

Are you on glue?

Cancel the cheque.

No is a complete sentence.

It’s an invitation, not a summons.

Etc.

They might be right, but some variety of delivery would be less irritating.

echt · 27/01/2020 05:39

Shockers

It's the internet, not Lord Chesterfield's letters to his son.

There will be shorthand, references to well-worn thread topics.

Certainly not a gang.

chicken2015 · 27/01/2020 06:01

Love
The wanky thread my favourite
Intentional funny threads

Hate
Feminist thread all anti trans , and if anyone disagrees then u r ganged up on and doesn't make u want to come back
Most threads i post i have my grammar and spelling commented on, im dyslexic. And if i mention im a teacher its worse it actually stops me replying now

What i find amusing
I put a post about giving up work due to my daughter being diagnosed with autism and it was difficult to find childcare and first person said how her father should take time of work cause we must obviously not be together as i havent mentioned among other things, made me laugh out loud. We r together still
"DH hobby is outing" ; makes me laugh really would love to know what they r also not sure they r really very outing!

Shockers · 27/01/2020 06:28

@echt- the thread title asked what I liked or disliked.

So I wrote my thoughts. For the record, I don’t think there’s a ‘gang’ either- just a few posters who trot out the same phrases to sound like there is.

Shockers · 27/01/2020 06:39

And apologies for the @!
