To think that a lot of genuinely beautiful people ruin themselves with plastic surgery etc?

As a self confessed utterly ugly bug I just can't understand it... There are truly beautiful women out there who do it to themselves time and time again and end up almost caricatures of themselves.

Just a thought after seeing the latest pics of Catherine Zeta Jones who was incredibly gorgeous. Not a caricature yet, but perhaps in danger of going there.

@DottyHarmer

Is it that people don’t know when to stop? A good facelift is obviously a godsend (I need one!) but then it’s the lips, the eyes, the brow lift, the sparkly teeth…. And soon everyone starts to look very weird indeed. Although perhaps if you move in such circles you are the odd one out if you aren’t plasticised.

Btw, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban! I hope they don’t too near some candles or else they’ll melt!

Yeah I think that's it. They move in circles where every woman - and increasingly men - over the age of 40 (or younger) has had at least something done. Ageing naturally probably looks freakish in Hollywood.

Also, these women have no shortage of money and time to spend on these 'treatments'. So probably the temptation is to think, oh why not another round of Botox? How about a chin implant? Maybe some buccal fat removal (Google it!) too? That will be the magic 'treatment' which makes them look like their former selves again. Except, of course, it isn't.

Lots of younger ladies have started shaving their face forehead to chin.

Perhaps when people first have work done on their faces it looks quite nice. But after time the effect fades and the temptation is to keep repeating the process. Meanwhile, they get used to seeing how their face looks in the mirror and, unlike those around them, do not notice that they are starting to look a bit odd. So it goes on until, potentially, people end up looking very strange indeed.

It seems to me that some plastic surgeons have a sort of template for how a person, and particularly a woman, should look, and so everyone ends up looking very similar and quite characterless. A bit like hairdressers who have perfected a new hairstyle and who encourage their clients to have that hairstyle.

@RufustheBadgeringReindeer I shave too around my chin.
My nieces and friends are 17 shaving for a smooth look, I think they're very young it is only fluff they'll look like chewbacca without shaving for 60 years.
I've a packed with my Dsis's if I lose body control they've to shave me or I'll grow a beard Grin

She became a household name then, before that she was someone who most people would say they recognised but couldn't name. She was an RSC/theatre actor with an odd screen and tv part

I certainly knew who Helen Mirren was long before Prime Suspect. I particularly remember her in the Long Good Friday (I think her first big screen role?) among others. Men of a certain age REALLY remember her in Excalibur.

She was generally described as sexy when she was younger, and much more recently too, and always been considered extremely attractive. She has been quite vocal in finding this irritating.

“ Annnnd-- you can only tell when you can tell. Otherwise, people just look good.”
No, I disagree you can always tell. Some look better than others, but you can always tell in real life.
Some look good with it, others don’t. I think little tweaks as you age, or if you are unhappy are fine. These duck lip fillers look awful, have a little by all means but don’t go OTT. Some young women just have too much, too young.

Courtney Cox, CZJ, MK, entire cast of Towie, etc it’s just too much. I think Jen An looks pretty good, but I wonder what she looks like in real life.

Goldie Hawn and Jane Fonda look great, but both are extremely fit, I think that has a lot to do with retaining youth (even though both have had work). Helen Mirren and Judi Dench also look great.

You also have to appreciate that most official shots are doctored or people are filmed through a pair of 100 denier tights.

Madonna without a filter is…. sinewy. Yet photos show a dewy complexion and no leathery limbs.

Body hair - well that is down to ethnicity to a certain extent and it’s good that superfluous hair (as it used to be coyly termed) is not a shameful secret any longer. I know when I was a teen people would deny shaving their legs and say, “Oh, I’m lucky, I have really fine hair everywhere.” And I believed them and thought I was a freaky gorilla Sad

I haven’t read the full thread, but whenever I hear about plastic surgery gone wrong, I always think about this woman, Jocelyn Wildenstein of NYC, who did this to herself purposely — because she wanted to look more feline. She’s called the Cat Woman.

To think that a lot of genuinely beautiful people ruin themselves with plastic surgery etc?

Think Jocelyn definitely wins the prize! Oh my good God!

@Classica

you sure about that, *@BrisbaneandGone*?
That’s TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, @Classica.

Tori Spelling on the left, Khloe Kardashian on the right.

DreamTheMoors · 12/09/2021 20:18

My apologies, @Classica - I misread. Flowers
