To think that a lot of genuinely beautiful people ruin themselves with plastic surgery etc?

As a self confessed utterly ugly bug I just can't understand it... There are truly beautiful women out there who do it to themselves time and time again and end up almost caricatures of themselves.

Just a thought after seeing the latest pics of Catherine Zeta Jones who was incredibly gorgeous. Not a caricature yet, but perhaps in danger of going there.

@Bathroom12345

Take my word for it. Helen Mirren has had a fab face lift.
I saw Helen Mirren at Heathrow a couple of years ago (in a lounge in T5 -- she sat next to DH, who was oblivious) and she looked fantastic. Great hair and skin, and very recognizably still DAME HELEN MIRREN, so if she's had work done it is absolutely top-notch. I was sitting opposite her. She was also wearing utterly fab sandals and a 'wow - clock the rocks' diamond ring. (DH said later he had noticed the sandals). And she was very polite to a fan who approached her and sat in her husband's seat.

@Thymelord

"Why do women have plastic surgery blah blah"

6 pages of women bashing other women for their looks. That'd be why.

No that's not why. The thread is about their 'Bratz Doll' looks after surgery, not before, when it is mostly agreed that they looked lovely and had no need to resort to surgery in the first place.
EmeraldShamrock · 04/09/2021 18:31

Men have fallen into the trap too.
All the money spent on Simon Cowell he looks like shit, his lungs are fecked too he'd have better spending his money on nicotine replacement products, lots of male actors look strange after cosmetic work.

BoredZelda · 04/09/2021 18:41

6 pages of women bashing other women for their looks. That'd be why.

Yep, with the odd Simon cowell thrown in for good measure.

Nobody has batted an eyelid about the amount of work Michael Douglas has had done, but Hello magazine post a picture of them both and the headline is CZJ is “age defying”

BoredZelda · 04/09/2021 18:42

No that's not why.

It is why.

catandcandle · 04/09/2021 18:46

To the person who said fillers look odd, tear trough ones really really don't if they are done right.

EmeraldShamrock · 04/09/2021 18:48

Nobody has batted an eyelid about the amount of work Michael Douglas has had done.
He wasted his money, he looks no better than the average man at 76 years old, probably looking worse.
Point is plastic surgery won't stop aging without good genes.

ChristmasFluff · 04/09/2021 19:15

It's only bad plastic surgery that wrecks faces, and all the fillers, botox and stuff is even worse.

Nina Myskow has been having surgery since at least the early 1990s. And she looks like Helen Mirren etc - 'ageing gracefully', 'haven't had anything done'

I knew her first surgeon - brilliant, a complete master of his art. You don't see the best plastic surgery. That's the point.

LavenderAskew · 04/09/2021 19:15

It's very sad she (CZJ) felt she needed cosmetic surgery. I'm not surprised - women are under huge pressure to stay young. Sadly society has changed in the wrong direction and now pressure is no men too.

She would have undoubtedly aged magnificently. Her mother is stunning and is must in her 70s

LavenderAskew · 04/09/2021 19:16

*on men, not no men.

ramarama · 04/09/2021 19:21

I saw Hayley Mills on TV yesterday and she looks wonderful at 75 - clearly has had a facelift (and naturally has amazing bone structure to hang it off) but has left enough jowl-i-ness and movement to look natural. A really good balance.
(but maybe that only works if you're naturally great looking in a certain way?)

It's the filler people go for around the lips and mouth which looks the most odd. Once once your lips can't move in a natural way, everything starts to look strange......

RedHelenB · 04/09/2021 19:24

@Gooseysgirl

Wow Shock
As you say the neck gives her age away. One of my friends has a wonderful body and looked great but has gone OTT with the bottom and it's really noticeable. I suppose the point between enhancing your face and the noticeable pkastic botox look must be very thin.
rosegoldwatcher · 04/09/2021 19:54

@GrumpyTerrier - As an aside, I don't believe there are any women celebs over 40 who havent had anything one. It is completely the culture in that world.

Kathleen Turner is on record as saying, "Faye Dunaway once told me that if I did not start plastic surgery by the time I was 40, it would be too late. And I said, 'Well fine, I won't do it then.' I don't want to be a Cher, where my face never changes or moves."

She's late 60s now and looks as she should. But here's the thing; she still sounds like the sexiest woman imaginable and her interviews are insightful, witty and interesting.

CounsellorTroi · 04/09/2021 20:22

It won’t stop ageing full stop. Nothing can. That’s why it starts to look strange after a while.

EmeraldShamrock · 04/09/2021 21:56

There's a difference between maintenance surgery and body dysmorphia too.
Katie Price is extreme on her body with surgical treatments she resembles Jessica Alves now, another person who has went way too far.

justfuckoffthelottayer · 04/09/2021 23:16

What a load of absolute bs so only the riff raff have overblown lips and eyebrows what rubbish you talk how do you even know everyones financial and personal circumstances Hmm

justfuckoffthelottayer · 04/09/2021 23:32

That was in response to the poster earlier on the thread

malificent7 · 05/09/2021 00:04

I think CZJ looks finne. If she had aged normally we'd be slagging her off too.

CounsellorTroi · 05/09/2021 00:09

I wouldn’t. I admire women in the public eye who age gracefully. I do understand that if your face is your fortune it must be terrifying to feel you are losing it. But that doesn’t explain why beautiful women in their 20s and 30s dislike their looks enough to have surgery.

malificent7 · 05/09/2021 00:39

I guess the best book to read on the sibject is the beauty myth by Naomi Woolf.

Tooembarrassingtomention · 05/09/2021 00:58

Google Helen mirren in Venice this week
My mother is 80 and has had no work and has many less wrinkles etc not sure what Helen us meant to have done but she looks like most of my mother’s friends

Mothership4two · 05/09/2021 01:57

Yes, Helen Mirren looks her age and good with it. Not sure if or what she has had done, but she has plenty of wrinkles on show. She has always been beautiful and her face has character, but she also has bags of confidence and that is attractive too.

Mothership4two · 05/09/2021 02:10

Jane Seymour is another one. Obviously had lots of work done but can still see some wrinkles, so looks natural (plus what must be top plastic surgeons). Thick hair (wig?) helps too.

I flew on the same airplane as her about 30 years ago and she seemed to glow with beauty. Doesn't really come across on the screen IMO.

Darbysmama · 05/09/2021 02:31

I do find that some people get plastic surgery and I don’t personally find it aesthetically pleasing. You’re not unreasonable in thinking that.

However, grain of salt input here, at the end of the day it’s their face, their body, their choice, and it’s not hurting anyone else. So I say live and let live. I might say inwardly “okay, that look is too much for me” but I’m also going to say “you do you, it’s your life.” As long as you don’t judge them based on appearances or try to voice/force your opinion on them, then it’s personally reasonable to do an inward cringe because it’s simply not your taste.

I really like the recent snippet of the old interview between Oprah and Dolly Parton regarding her plastic surgeries that’s been circling the media lately. Dolly had a good attitude and a sense of humor about some really rude questions.

Unsure1983 · 05/09/2021 02:47

Frankie Sims was stunning prior to surgery.
