smoking

AIBU to think smoking if you have children is an incredibly selfish decision? having a debate with a friend who claims as she does it out of sight of her children it is not and she is entitled to a vice as she devotes her life to the children. from my view, it can cause illnesses, costs money that could go on other things for the family and quite frankly isnt a healthy thing for a child to be around (will still be on clothes/hair etc.) even if they dont see it? think I feel strongly as I remember as a child putting a cushion over my face to avoid the smoke from my dads 30 a day habit - I really do think its revolting

@jaxhog the children of alcoholics though tend to avoid alcohol completely after seeing the devastating impacts of addiction...

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:56

I posted about one lazy partner...the post from last year was about something else rather more serious.

not sure if that's a dig or not but I will try and see it as not. that really sucks about the pain and lack of sleep. its hideous

I hadn't realised, there are too many pages to go back and see what was said, I assumed it was the same person...
Absolutely not a dig...
Its awful when you're in pain, and/or can't sleep... So many mothers do it, it should be listed as a superpower! Grin
Guaranteed the minute I do fall asleep I'll be woken by one of the little ones...

always the way,!

It's a bit of a pile-on isn't it?

ArseHair · 20/01/2020 00:13

I gave up for new year but just had to go and buy a pack, to cope with this thread.

WingingItSince1973 · 20/01/2020 00:44

I agree with you. Smoking is disgusting and those that think they or their homes dont smell are kidding themselves. You can tell the children of smokers at school as the poor things smell of smoke. So yes it is selfish.

CherryPavlova · 20/01/2020 06:33

Retroflex, I rather think it is you who lets smoke get in your eyes and stops you seeing the truth. Factual information doesn’t appear to be something you recognise.
About 90% of lung cancers are caused by smoking.

The leading cause of fire related deaths is smoking.

Smoking increases poverty and that affects children.

Yep, smokers are pretty selfish but then they are addicts and addiction creates selfishness. Do people put their cigarettes before their families? Yes, like all addicts the fix becomes all important.

Cheesespreading · 20/01/2020 20:40

Hopex3 your kids are losing out. All the money he spends could be otherwise spent on them which is the whole fucking point of your thread. He smokes therefore he is taking away from them any extra treats etc like you said, so you being with him is also selfish but instead you want to slag off your friend.

Hopex3 · 20/01/2020 22:08

this thread is over cheese - move on to another AIBU thread and flame the OP its boring now, I've acknowledged the point you've made about my partner several times now I really dont know what more you want

OP posts:
Cheesespreading · 20/01/2020 23:26

I wasn’t aware you decided when people stop posting.

Hopex3 · 20/01/2020 23:29

well enjoy debating with yourself cos I wont be responding anymore, completely pointless and your most recent comment just proves you're looking for an argument which I'm no longer prepared to entertain. as some pp pointed out this thread went on waaay too long as it is

Well I'm sorry, I know this is an old post but bloody Hell, cut the OP some slack! My MIL used to smoke round my kids whenever they stayed over, despite me asking her not to, my eldest son was / is asthmatic, lo and behold after one such stay he ended up in hospital after having an asthma attack, smoking round kids is bloody selfish, fine, smoke all you like and ruin your own health but putting your needs before your kids is disgusting when it comes to fags. What a pedantic bunch you all are. OP, I am with you.
