smoking

AIBU to think smoking if you have children is an incredibly selfish decision? having a debate with a friend who claims as she does it out of sight of her children it is not and she is entitled to a vice as she devotes her life to the children. from my view, it can cause illnesses, costs money that could go on other things for the family and quite frankly isnt a healthy thing for a child to be around (will still be on clothes/hair etc.) even if they dont see it? think I feel strongly as I remember as a child putting a cushion over my face to avoid the smoke from my dads 30 a day habit - I really do think its revolting

Haha that's fair. I think it's fair to sum up doing anything that causes kids to go without is bad/selfish. Not worth making a thread over. You don't like smoking. Not worth making a thread over. Definitely don't put the two together!

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:00

OP thanks for cheering me up after I've got so much shit for disliking smoking

@AllergicToAMop You didn't get shit for not liking smoking. You got shit for acting shit

OP no I'm pretty sure I've been given shit cos of my opinion on smoking lol

NOPE, you're definitely getting shit for your shitty attitude as you've already been told... HmmBiscuit

@squeamishsquamish "I sense that most of the mind-your-own-business posters are smokers." nope, never smoked, family don't smoke, friends don't smoke... Hmm

RainbowAlicorn · 19/01/2020 23:03

Ok I haven't RTFT but I smoke and have children and I can tell you my children do NOT go without I do! I make sure my children are well fed, they have plenty of fruit and veg, the do activities, are clothed, are loved, but I have had a shit couple of years and have been under a hell of a lot of stress and started smoking again. Believe it or not judgement from sanctimonious people like you doesn't actually make smokers think oh yes I had better stop, it makes us feel more guilty than we already do, makes us stressed and then guess what, we reach for the cigarettes.
Why don't you stop judging your friend and start supporting her?

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:04

MidnightCircus I do agree with you lol. I'm probably feeling particularly cagey today as I have a young child and I'm surviving on 3 hours sleep, had my friend debate this and also have a lazy partner who yes also smokes which puts even more of a bee in my bonnet about the subject. lesson learnt for the future about threads that are worth doing or not haha

Can dragons blow out candles?

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:06

@Hopex3 " they was talking about my partner I was with in the summer lol, that post was put up ages ago last year..." go on, save me reading back, how long did you have fertility problems for, when did you get pregnant which takes 9 months for baby to arrive and you have a daughter... GrinGrinGrin hilarious...

MidnightCircus · 19/01/2020 23:08

As an insomniac who regularly gets 3-5 hours sleep, I hear you. It's rough and does not help rational, calm decisions...

No. Dragons just burn candles

mamabear2409 · 19/01/2020 23:09

It's just like drinking. Drinking regularly isn't good for you and costs money too. No point in pin pointing smoking as bad when there are 'wine mums' drinking right after the kids have gone to bed. Not judging at all, just making a point.

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:09

Retroflex tried for a year before quitting the smoking, then it took 10 months for my pregnancy which ended in miscarriage then a further 4/5 months for my daughter. why do you ask?

OP posts:
Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:11

mamabear2409 true, I know plenty like this too

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:14

retroflux I have posts leading up to my miscarriage where I was having brown discharge I asked on here for advise and it ended up being the worst - you can check if you want seeing how you're so invested in my posts if you wanna see if you can catch me out Hmm

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:19

@IceBearRocks "You mentioned in a previous thread about you lazy DP smoking ! Does this apply to him too?"

@Hopex3 "of course it does. he didnt go on a rant about why it's not selfish and knows it is and how i feel about it. just another reason why I feel so strongly about it."

I've not searched your previous threads, but unless you start threads on every lazy DP you've ever had, I think you'll find that you've admitted already that it's the same person... I don't like lies... HmmBiscuit

Ttcbabybennett · 19/01/2020 23:21

You’re on the wrong catagory op. AIBU is for when people want to ask am I being unreasonable about x, y or z usually as they’re not sure if they’re in the right or wrong and would appreciate people’s opinions from other viewpoints... I’m not sure where your post should’ve gone but clearly not here... Crown Biscuit

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:21

I'm not invested in your posts, and I can honestly say that I've got no interest in searching for your previous posts. As a non smoker myself, I gave you reasons which I would have found more acceptable for a debate on smoking than shaming a "friend" though...

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:24

Retroflex I thought you was referring to the post where I said I wasnt with him anymore..that person referenced my post about the guy I was with last year and I said I wasnt with him anymore..the one you've shared where do I say that I'm not with him Confused

OP posts:
Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:24

@Ttcbabybennett exactly... Shaming a friend for smoking, neglecting her children, yet has been answering comments on this thread for over 24 hours... The hypocrisy is strong with this one...

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:25

@Hopex3 so have you posted about 2 lazy smoking dp's? Wow...

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:25

Ttcbabybennett lol this category is for people who want to be torn a new one from what I've seen

Rhumatoidwarrior88 · 19/01/2020 23:26

Do you drink alcohol ? . The same argument . Even if it's one glass or one cigarette. Same thing

Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:26

Retroflex my baby has been with her nan if that's okay with you. you are strangely invested in my life

OP posts:
Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:26

as I only had 3 hours sleep she is with my mother fucking hell, give me a break retro

OP posts:
Hopex3 · 19/01/2020 23:27

Retroflex the post from last year was nothing to do with smoking, what the hell are you going on about?

OP posts:
Jaxhog · 19/01/2020 23:28

Well, DCs are more than twice as likely to smoke if their parents do.

Jaxhog · 19/01/2020 23:32

And DCs whose parents drink regularly are more than twice as likely to binge drink.

It makes you think, doesn't it?

Retroflex · 19/01/2020 23:45

@Hopex3 as you can see I'm not invested in your posts outside this one, but you've avoided answering my question about posting about 2 lazy dp's, so I'm guessing all the information is out there if people really care I don't personally

It's a shame you've only had 3 hours sleep, I've personally not managed to get any sleep whatsoever, and I'm in so much pain that I can't even feel tired... Luckily my dh has been amazing, and has done all the physical stuff around the house, leaving me to do the fun parts...
