Strange post received

I have received 8 tickets from ticket master through the post this morning, total £315
No one in my house has any recollection of ordering them and stranger still they are addressed to my 10 year old DS, the address is correct except for one digit of the postcode. Have checked my bank and credit cards etc no payment has been made either, so would you contact ticket master? Keep them? Sell them??

we had an envelope today addressed to previous owner of house (moved away a year ago but still get the odd catalogue etc). Not obvious what it was but I googled the return address to see if it was important and it was from ticketmaster. Unlikely they'd have ordered it to their old address, although entirely possible...

surprisingly easy to do, particulalry with online accounts that you only use infrequently.
I often get things delivered to work, when I change jobs I'll change the address book in Amazon, Ebay, but have often noticed at the very last minute (or later) that the address book has fished up an old address.

Febuarystar · 18/01/2020 01:19

It will be the wrong address no doubt.
Strange thing like that happened to me,
One day i was delivered massive bouquet and gift. Same last name, same house number and the same street name except one was called crescent and one was road!! Same bloody town!! The strangest thing was they even had the same initials as my husband and i but the other way round! So im F and my husband L , the other wife was L and im F !!!
Was very strange!! The only way i found about them was was by speaking to an old nosey neighbour who commented on my bouquet delivery a few days later!
I took the flowers round to her house and rather embarrassingly she had received a delivery for me the week before... it was lube!!! I wished it had gotten lost in the post like i thought! Embarrassing!
Its such a strange coincide you couldn't make it up!!

Febuarystar · 18/01/2020 01:21
  • her husband was F
BlokeTarget · 18/01/2020 01:28

Re-sell them on that website that Ed Sheeran is trying to close down..

Obvs you could check with the other address- saying youve had some post for xxx name.. but no mention of tickets!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 18/01/2020 01:33

Knock the door and ask them if they want to buy the 8 tickets at half price.

notangelinajolie · 18/01/2020 01:42

My money is on the previous occupants of your house ordering them online and it's been so long since the last time they used ticketmaster that they have totally forgotten to change their account to their new address.

Broken2020 · 18/01/2020 01:53

Not RTFT but just want to point out, I discovered that someone had taken out a credit card in my name when I was a child! A very very young child!! God knows how the date of birth thing got past their checks but it was the 80's! 🤷🏼‍♀️☺️
My point is, these things do happen!

MissPepper8 · 18/01/2020 02:00

@notangelinajolie Same name as her 10 year old though? Bit of a coincidence.

PatricksRum · 18/01/2020 05:33

Pm

GoodnightJude1 · 18/01/2020 05:55

Strange! Hope you get to the bottom of it OP!

Lucky to get 8 tickets....! (Unless it’s for Alanis Morisette or a Bee Gees tribute of course, then that would be most unfortunate!) Grin

custardbear · 18/01/2020 06:01

How strange! Would be very bizarre if you have a doppelgänger house/resident combo too!

wibdib · 18/01/2020 07:21

If you decide to ring ticketmaster again, ask to speak to their fraud team rather than enquiring about the tickets and not having the right security info.

They might want a crime number but you would hope not.

Then hopefully they will deal with it properly and if not, you can tweet them with a message saying that they weren’t interested in helping you sort out a worrying fraud using their tickets. Should then get a better response.

Likewise if anyone turns up for the tickets tell them that you’ve returned them to Ticketmaster and see what their response is. Get their address to send them on in case they get sent back to you too!

I’ve had similar with phone number problems - we kept getting left messages for dhthat all sounded quite important but they never left a return number. One day I was ill and at home so actually answered the phone - seems there was a typo in an internal directory and freakily the typo was for someone with dh’s name. They were mortified - the guy with dh name they were calling was lead lawyer on a bank takeover and if we had known that, we would have had enough info to have fed some juicy titbits to financial journalists if we had wanted to (about problems or things not working etc) - I was working for a big news info organisation at the time but in IT rather than content - so was close!

Hope there’s a good explanation and remember to stick the date in your diary just in case a load of robbers turn up!!

LongWalkShortPlank · 18/01/2020 07:49

I had a quick scroll through and didn't see this mentioned so thought I'd mention it just in case it wasn't considered about who your ds is talking to online and does he know not to give out personal details

Mummadeeze · 18/01/2020 07:59

I was delivered a huge box of chocolates one Christmas with three tiers. It must have cost a fortune. Literally no one I knew had sent it to me. I asked everybody. I did call Thornton’s and try to find out who sent it or if it was meant for me but they also wouldn’t give out any information. It was v annoying as I never got to the bottom of it, but we did end up eating and enjoying all the chocolates!

surlycurly · 18/01/2020 08:35

I had a dream about this last night. Dreamt someone had bought them for me and it turned out to be a kid in my class! Crazy 😂

TreeTopTim · 18/01/2020 09:06

If someone comes to the door asking about the tickets deny all knowledge of them.

I would do a search to see if someone with your ds' name lives at the other house. Unlikely but you never know

purplerainboww · 18/01/2020 10:18

Thank you for all your suggestions, will be popping over to the other house this afternoon and will update then, fingers crossed the simplest explanation is the correct one, although it would be an awful lot of coincidences in one go!!

OP posts:
incognitomum · 18/01/2020 12:34

Good luck

purplerainboww · 18/01/2020 17:15

UPDATE spoke to the other house with the same name, the people have completely different first names and surnames to us, but had ordered tickets and could tell me exactly what they were for, location, date etc, I have told them to contact ticket master to get the tickets reissued and I will destroy the originals as they have my sons name on so aren't any good to them
Will also still be contacting ticketmaster head office by post to flag up potential fraud re my sons name being used on a booking, so still a strange situation but at least I know where the tickets have originated from now!

OP posts:
Squiz81 · 18/01/2020 17:38

How bizarre!!

Apolloanddaphne · 18/01/2020 17:41

How very odd.

vikeh28 · 18/01/2020 17:41

So they ordered them using your sons name?! !🤔

FlamingoAndJohn · 18/01/2020 17:46

That is very odd. How did your son’s name get muddled up in this?

CreekIsRising · 18/01/2020 17:47

Have you ordered from Ticketmaster previously using your son's name and an employee got the records mixed up?

Squirrelwithaflute · 18/01/2020 17:50

How did your sons name get on their tickets?! Wouldn't they have realised when putting the order in online....very confusing
