Strange post received

purplerainboww · 17/01/2020 12:37

I have received 8 tickets from ticket master through the post this morning, total £315
No one in my house has any recollection of ordering them and stranger still they are addressed to my 10 year old DS, the address is correct except for one digit of the postcode. Have checked my bank and credit cards etc no payment has been made either, so would you contact ticket master? Keep them? Sell them??

OP posts:
JemimaPuddleCat · 17/01/2020 17:48

Yup Ticketmaster always have an extra perforated 'ticket' type thing, with details of the purchase.

Esspee · 17/01/2020 17:48

Well known scam to get you out of the house so that they can break in perhaps?

Fcukthisshit · 17/01/2020 17:48

Could they be fake tickets??? A set up to guarantee you’re all out of the house, for a burglary to take place??

Would have to be well organised criminals though. Maybe I’m just too suspicious of people.

FilledSoda · 17/01/2020 17:49

It's a bit unsettling

Rubyroost · 17/01/2020 17:49

@Espee sounds like a ridiculous plan. Hmm

whoami24 · 17/01/2020 17:51

This is very strange and also how worrying reading people's woes off Ticketmaster and it's disgusting they won't help.

Weird that the concert isn't till November that the tickets have been received already? I've always known ticketmaster to send them out closer to the concert date?

Awaiting update it would so be stressing me out in your shoes

WorraLiberty · 17/01/2020 17:52

How long have you lived in your home, OP?

whoami24 · 17/01/2020 17:55

The concert isn't till November! lol I doubt Burglars are planning that far ahead! Ridiculous explanation but made me laugh 😂

ThunderboltandLightning · 17/01/2020 17:55

I know not many people use it any more or are ex directory, but sometimes you can find who lives at an address using BT.com. Or Google your DS name and the postcode shown, and see what comes up.

JKScot4 · 17/01/2020 17:56

The concert isn’t until November? Very unusual for the tickets to be sent out immediately you purchased them, it’s usually a few weeks before event.

gamerchick · 17/01/2020 17:57

Maybe just ask does (name) live here

No just that question ^^ no mention of tickets.

coconuttelegraph · 17/01/2020 18:04

Well known to who @Esspee ?

I'm pretty sure it isn't and it would be a stupid one anyway, why would scammers spend money on genuine tickets that can be traced on the tiny off chance that 8 people will turn up for a concert they haven't bought tickets for in 9 months time?

The simple answer is almost always the correct one, my money is on it being a address mix up.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 17/01/2020 18:09

Probably easier to just check the electoral roll isnt it?

And yes. Alexa really can be that evil.Blush

MirandaGoshawk · 17/01/2020 18:13

Yes, if there is a house with the same name as yours in that postcode then that's your answer - and it's a coincidence with the names. Spooky! My DD has a fairly unusual first name and second name but common surname and her optician has a patient with the exact same name.

nillygin · 17/01/2020 18:15

I once got ticketmaster tickets delivered to my house for someone else who had the same first line of the address, but otherwise a totally different name and other-end-of-the-country address - including their correct postcode. So like my address was 6 UniqueName Street, Southcity, SC1 2AB and the tickets were addressed to 6 UniqueName Street, NorthCity, NC3 4CD.

Thinking it would sort itself out I put them back in the post, but they were redelivered to me the next day. Perhaps stupidly, I tried that twice and they still came back to me. So eventually I opened them put them inside another envelope with a note to explain why and posted them again. Fortunately that seemed to work as I didn’t see them again!

theemmadilemma · 17/01/2020 18:18

I'm guessing it was the DS!

TitsInAbsentia · 17/01/2020 18:20

If you are going to knock I'd reverse and say you were just checking whether they had received any mail/tickets that weren't theirs, thus prompting them to say no but they were waiting for tickets perhaps?

Lipz · 17/01/2020 18:20

What are the chances they've the same name ? I suppose it is possible. Just ask if there's someone there by that name, if they say yes then it's an address mix up if they say no then you are back to the beginning.

I hate this with companies who won't even try to help. I know you could be anyone to them but surely they have procedures for things like this.

It could be a scam but It's alot of info they have like child's name and address, how would they have your child's name.

It's all very strange. I think I'd do as others say and tweet them.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 17/01/2020 18:27

Yep I reckon DS and they just haven't processed the payment yet!

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/01/2020 18:27

Very odd.
Can you go to the wrong postcode house and ask them?

BarbaraofSeville · 17/01/2020 18:43

Wrong postcode house sounds promising. If the tickets have been sent, it's likely that the card payment has been processed. I bought tickets yesterday and can see the pending payment in my credit card account.

coconuttelegraph · 17/01/2020 18:47

Yep I reckon DS and they just haven't processed the payment yet!

But how likely is it that both a 10 year old could buy something on Ticketmaster and that they would send out the tickets before having the payment? At 10 there's no way my DC could navigate that site and somehow steal a card to pay for the tickets and why would they even do it anyway/

Rara94 · 17/01/2020 19:08

Ohhh wonder if it's for the other house!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 17/01/2020 19:18

It might be the other house, knock and ask for him (first name only) if they say no one lives here with that name you can casually claim to have been given the wrong house number and leave.
My son has a common first name and more unusual surname and there has been mix ups because someone with the exact same name as him is registered at our drs surgery with a birthdate a couple days apart. 😱 I have to ask them to confirm the birthdate before talking about DS.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 17/01/2020 19:22

I need to see this through, invested now Grin how soon can you check with the other house Blush Wink
