Strange post received

I have received 8 tickets from ticket master through the post this morning, total £315
No one in my house has any recollection of ordering them and stranger still they are addressed to my 10 year old DS, the address is correct except for one digit of the postcode. Have checked my bank and credit cards etc no payment has been made either, so would you contact ticket master? Keep them? Sell them??

I did get someone trying to make a large international cash transfer from my credit card after I donated through just giving.

I had that too, luckily my bank were on the ball and cancelled my cards and gave me new ones with new numbers and changed my bank account number too ConfusedAngry

CreekIsRising · 17/01/2020 16:47

Yeah my bank stopped it too and cancelled everything etc. Interesting that it happened to you! I'd never use the site again now anyway but clearly it wasn't an isolated incident. I rang action fraud at the time but they couldn't have been less interested. Sounds like they should have been paying attention.

GloGirl · 17/01/2020 16:47

This just can't be a scam. You've considered going, they've got your son's name correct. The concert is legit etc. The final puzzle piece just hasn't come through yet!

Has he ordered them all for a group of friends after they clubbed the money together - one orders, one pays, one gets the tickets. They were all gonna sneak off and go?

Or maybe one parent had agreed to take them?

SpinneyHill · 17/01/2020 16:53

I second Tweeting them, I'm always amazed how quickly a public tweet can get things done after being told over the phone they can't help.
Does DS spend time at any friends houses? It might be worth all parents checking banks I pulled off some audacious (and I now know illegal) shit when I was 10 and my mates were always in on it..

welliesarefuntowear · 17/01/2020 16:55

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I got sent two tickets to Take That in Norwich addressed to "the mumsnetter of the house". I contacted mumsnet and they could not give me an answer as to why this had happened. I'm not a Take That fan at all. It would never have interested me to enter a competition and Norwich is miles away from me. I couldn't get an answer from ticket master either.

However my friend is a massive take that fan and her husband works as a train driver so she could get really cheap train tickets. We went, I had a brilliant time! I am still none the wiser!

I agree. How old is your son OP? Maybe he overheard you talking and ordered tickets as a gift?

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 16:58

What’s the scam though? I can’t work it out?

SoupDragon · 17/01/2020 16:58

He's 10.

tempester28 · 17/01/2020 17:00

My money is on Alexa

theoldtrout01876 · 17/01/2020 17:01

Go check your bank account. That is how I found out my husband's card had been compromised. Got phone turn up at my house. 2 infact. Then a random bar stool. They had charges hundreds over a weekend on digital download stuff. Got no idea why they had phones and bar stool actually sent to my house

NK1cf53daaX127805d4fd5 · 17/01/2020 17:05

I'd ring Ticket master again

ProfessorSlocombe · 17/01/2020 17:11

Is it just me, or has there been no indication of the date the event is on ?

If it was a few days away, I'd be worried. If it's months away ... well plenty of time to sort things out as the tickets still have value.

crustycrab · 17/01/2020 17:17

Strange. Especially that you discussed buying tickets.

ShakespearesSisters · 17/01/2020 17:25

Could it all be a coincidence? If your son has a common name there could be someone at 10 downing lane xx1 1xx, but you live at 10 downing st xx1 1xy? Slim chance but you never know. Google the postcode on the tickets and see what comes up.

CrohnicallyEarly · 17/01/2020 17:29

@welliesarefuntowear that sounds like the old mumsnet secret Santa! Were you ever a part of that? (Wondering if it got lost in the post for a while and turned up long after you’d forgotten about it, I once had an online order that turned up about 6 months after the replacement arrived!)

purplerainboww · 17/01/2020 17:33

Have spoken to DS he has no idea what ticket master even is, have also checked the browsing history on his phone and I pad and nothing there, there is no invoice with any payment details in with the tickets but it does say the date they were booked-9th jan so only last week, no payments have been taken from mine or DH accounts, I think the next step will have to be to contact ticket master head office,,, I have however googled the incorrect postcode and there is a house with the same name as ours with that postcode, so would be a massive coincidence but maybe they do have the same name as DS (fairly common first and surnames) and just the street address is wrong? I will investigate tomorrow by knocking and asking them I think!!

👀meet you back here tomorrow for my update then OP

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 17:37

Hang - ‘discussing buying tickets’??? Do you have Alexa?

Be careful with your questions, you don't want to open with "We've received 8 unsolicited tickets for XYZ, are they yours?" as they'd be daft to say no when faced with freebie tickets! So you need to be smart about how you open the conversation.

purplerainboww · 17/01/2020 17:40

Would Alexa really be that evil?! Lol! No money taken from any accounts though? The concert isnt until November so yes plenty of time to resolve issue, it's just worrying me incase it is some type of fraud

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 17/01/2020 17:41

I live in a place with just a few houses and until the family moved away, there was a man with the exact same as my DH a few doors away. We sometimes got post for him by mistake. It happens!

purplerainboww · 17/01/2020 17:41

Maybe just ask does (name) live here? And have you ordered any tickets recently if yes?

OP posts:
Dontsayyouloveme · 17/01/2020 17:41

That’s weird. I’ve always received a receipt, printed on a ticket thing, with every ticket I’ve bought from ticketmaster! 🤔

SirVixofVixHall · 17/01/2020 17:43

I think they have just been delivered to the wrong house, and the other house owner shares your DS’s name.
