Strange post received

I have received 8 tickets from ticket master through the post this morning, total £315
No one in my house has any recollection of ordering them and stranger still they are addressed to my 10 year old DS, the address is correct except for one digit of the postcode. Have checked my bank and credit cards etc no payment has been made either, so would you contact ticket master? Keep them? Sell them??

A drunk booking would still have generated a confirmation email. Can you use Twitter or FB to see when the tickets went on sale, then check back for messages from Ticketmaster? You might have to trawl back on their account if it was a while back.

Jesz · 17/01/2020 15:42

Was you talking about buying tickets, you don't happen to own an Alexa do you Grin?

ShoesandmoreShoes · 17/01/2020 15:45

As pp have said upthread the police round here are regularly putting out messages about scams in the area one of which is a sudden expensive item arriving at your house then someone turns up and gives some story about 'sorry it was delivered to the wrong address' the item is handed over and then the homeowner receives a large bill for the item (they've now handed over). So whatever you do OP do NOT hand over the tickets to anyone who turns up at your door because this could possibly be a scam. If this is the case refuse to hand over the tickets, close the door and phone 101 and tell them what's happened and give a description of the person who turned up. (that's the advice the police give here).

Also really shocked at Ticket Master's response when your DH phoned them. I'd be tempted to post this story on their Twitter account as like pp have said I think you will get a better response.

Drum2018 · 17/01/2020 16:02

If this is the case refuse to hand over the tickets,

Or better still deny all knowledge of the tickets.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/01/2020 16:04

Re the 'drunk ordering' - I would think, even drunk, OP would get her postcode right, especially if everything else was right!

How would a scam work with Ticketmaster though, when the money comes out as soon as you order, and the tickets arrive just before the gig? Agree with pp who said go back through your bank statements for a few months, just in case.

slipperywhensparticus · 17/01/2020 16:06

Can you check with your bank it's not a pending transaction?

Notodontidae · 17/01/2020 16:07

Seems like a glitch has occurred, you would have thought ticket master would have said we will look- into- it. To think It would be very disappointing if someone is expecting tickets and they don’t arrive.

GrannyBags · 17/01/2020 16:08

What time does DS get home from school?

PuzzledObserver · 17/01/2020 16:09

If OP ad drunk ordered, why would she have had the tickets addressed to her DS?

Clangus00 · 17/01/2020 16:11

Shamelessly following to watch for the outcome.

enjoyingscience · 17/01/2020 16:11

Call your bank. Even if you haven’t been charged, when you enter card details online they are verified - a kind of ping to the bank. They might be able to tell you if this has happened.

If anyone turns up to collect I’d deny ever seeing them and call the police.

wineandcheeseplease · 17/01/2020 16:17

Oh how odd. I'd certainly tweet them

mummmy2017 · 17/01/2020 16:22

Call again ask for the fraud section, tell them the tickets are in a minors name.

Rebornflame · 17/01/2020 16:24

Really odd! I would think it’s a scam.

ButterAlwaysMelts · 17/01/2020 16:26

Do the tickets not have the details in them ? They usually have an extra ticket explaining how it was paid for ?

whensa · 17/01/2020 16:26

That's odd, we had an envelope today addressed to previous owner of house (moved away a year ago but still get the odd catalogue etc). Not obvious what it was but I googled the return address to see if it was important and it was from ticketmaster. Unlikely they'd have ordered it to their old address, although entirely possible...

butwhateverfor · 17/01/2020 16:27

My money is on the DS.

Urkiddingright · 17/01/2020 16:29

Call your bank and explain, ask whether there’s anything in your statements to suggest you purchased them. A PP is correct, the money can be taken immediately but you won’t receive the tickets for months so you possibly haven’t gone far back enough on your statements?

Also would call ticketmaster again and explain you already called, you can’t pass security because you didn’t book the bloody tickets but you want to know how those tickets have ended up at your address. If they try to fob you off ask to speak to a manager.

Could your DS have booked them? Is that something he’d ever do? I only ask because kids do really stupid shit sometimes, we’ve all heard the tales of kids spending hundreds on their parents card without really realising.

Urkiddingright · 17/01/2020 16:30

I think I usually get a receipt of sorts with tickets I buy online, is there anything with an email address at all mixed in with the tickets?

karencantobe · 17/01/2020 16:30

Agree tickets always have a receipt that says how it was paid for with the last 4 digits of any card used.

SagaBauer · 17/01/2020 16:30

@whensa my friend did exactly that, was a genuine mistake and the new owners refused to hand the tickets over when she realised what had happened Sad

xmaself24 · 17/01/2020 16:34

Have you asked ds yet op?

Strandliv · 17/01/2020 16:35

Don’t know if I should be nervous now. I ordered tickets from ticketmaster a while back, haven’t had them yet as the concert isn’t until June. But I’d never heard of issues with them and fraud before, rushes off to check bank. Shock

PattiPrice · 17/01/2020 16:39

Are they genuine tickets? Was the envelope a TM one?

CreekIsRising · 17/01/2020 16:40

I've not had issues with Ticketmaster but I did get someone trying to make a large international cash transfer from my credit card after I donated through just giving.

Anyway I'm only really here for the updates.
